Haunted Wolves

He hunts nightmares. She survives them.

Green Pines, Book 2

Lorelei Adams has lost many things—her humanity, her life, even her son. She’s always fought through her exhaustion, always stayed strong for her pack, but now there are new alphas to take care of the others. Unfortunately, time to rest means time to think about her own pain.

Colin Knox knows about exhaustion. He’s acted as judge, jury, and executioner to rogue wolves for over a decade, but never lingered long enough to help the survivors pick up the pieces—until now. Lorelei rouses his instincts, both protective and carnal. She’s willing, but only to indulge in physical distraction. Colin wants more, to be the hero who slays her monsters.

Especially when it becomes clear that malicious magic is loose in their sanctuary. The danger draws them together until it’s impossible to separate lust from affection, good intentions from rationalizations. Darkness is stirring at Green Pines. If they can’t fight it together, they could lose everything they have left.

Contains a weary vigilante hero looking for a place to call home and a stubborn werewolf heroine unwilling to admit she needs help. Also small-town prejudices, big-city dangers, naked chases through the woods and ghosts. Lots of ghosts.

Favorite Quote: “I feel like I’m home.“

Lorilei Adams was forced to take on a larger role when her pack was being terrorized by another pack. Having lost everything that meant something to her, Lorilei is physically and mentally tired and ready to give it all up to the alphas of Green Pine Sanctuary.

Colin has spent his life as an enforcer for the council. He was their judge, jury, and executioner against rogue wolves, but he never looked beyond the kill to the survivors. Exhausted and weary himself, he just want to rest.

Colin meets Lorilei and his protective instincts roar to the surface. Colin finds himself struggling not to just take what he wants. Lorilei is attracted to Colin as well but she only wants a physical distraction. Colin wants it all though and soon begins his uneasy seduction.

When an unknown and malicious magic begins to affect the residents of Green Pines, Colin and Lorilei must put aside their uneasiness and work together to discover the person(s) behind the magic. They soon find themselves in a malstorm where passion, lust, friendship, and responsibility all blend together and the final outcome rests completely on their shoulders.

Haunted Wolves is the second book in Moira Roger’s Green Pines Series. A dark seductive paranormal romance that is the perfect blending of dynamic action, heartbreaking drama, and enough hot, intense loving that will have you wanting your very own alpha. This supernatural thriller is guaranteed to keep you engaged till the very end. What I truly enjoy about this author duo is the ease and skill in which write their characters. Heavily character driven, these fully developed and delightfully engaging players will capture your attention from first meeting and wiggle their way into your heart. It’s almost impossible to not become vested in their lives. The smooth pacing and engaging storyline makes for a fast read that came to an end far too soon for my liking.

Lorilei and Colin are both fantastic complicated protagonists. Intelligent, clever, and loyal, the dance these two engage in is both seductive and edgy as Colin finds himself drawn to Lorilei and what she represents. I adore the reluctant hero trope and in here we got a twofer. These two weary protagonists are reluctant to allow themselves the chance to be happy even though they will give their lives for the happiness of others. The drama of their relationship and the situations they find themselves in balances well with the continuous world building.

The romance is very slow to develop as Lorilei and Colin attempt to learn to trust one another. Both have been forced into situations that required them to do things that destroyed a little of their soul each time. Neither wanted the responsibility that has been forced on them and both have issues with their past that they fear with send the other one running. Lorilei feels a lot of shame for what she had to do to protect the other members of her pack. Colin also feels shame for his past. Both need to learn to forgive themselves. Their chemistry is off the charts and the sexual tension is palpable force that coats your skin as you read.

All our old friends are back and some new ones I look forward to interacting with more in the future. I enjoy how Rogers is able to pick up their lives right from where Haunted Sanctuary left off, leaving no feelings of missed behind the scenes action. This world continues to expand and elevate both character and arc wise. The journey towards safety is fraught with tension and suspense as we learn of a secret coven whose members want something Green Pines Sanctuary has…something they will kill to protect. Our villains are ugly, nasty, evil, individuals that you will love to hate. Beware though – as with most of Moira Roger’s stories, this writing pair does not shy away from violence or making hard decisions that can and will break your heart. Strong emotions will make and break you as you race to the climatic finale. The ending resolves just enough to have you looking forward to book three-Haunted Magic-release date TBA.

Though each story has a resolvable main conflict, the arc is ongoing and those who start here at book two may not fully understand or enjoy the ongoing storyline.

This book picks up right were the first book left off, but it shifts focus and gives us two new lead characters to focus on. Colin Knox and Lorelei Adams are the next two Green Pines Sanctuary wolves to get their turn at romance. This story felt more powerful than the first one from the get-go and I think it was because the two main characters both have darker histories and so much more to overcome before they can come together. The main plot line is their developing romance, but sinister things are still at work to disrupt everyone’s well-fought for peace and the other plot threads involving the other wolves keep marching along in the background.

At the beginning of the story, Colin tries to follow Jay’s request to take a hands-off approach to the Memphis pack females who are trying to get their lives back together now that they’re free of the evil Christian and his group. It’s hard for him when Lorelei gives him the come-hither. He denies them both, but in so doing it begins something much more worthwhile and harder- a true relationship. Lorelei has huge secrets- secrets that are crushing the life out of her, but she tries to maintain the ‘I’m fine and I can handle it’ attitude. Everyone, but especially Colin sees right through her, but feels the need to treat her like glass and not confront her about it. Colin’s alpha instincts make him want to protect her even if it is from his own darker side.

One of the wolves turns up dead and they suspect someone from Memphis is involved and the use of magic. Jay wants Colin and Lorelei to track down anyone still in Memphis willing to talk and possibly share if they knew of an attack on the sanctuary. Going to Memphis dredges up Lorelei’s past and she can barely keep it together especially when she sees that Colin understands what he is seeing and what it says about her past, but she is still determined to do what she can to help her new pack. An old friend gives them the lead they need, but unfortunately the lead goes cold, literally.

Once back with the pack, the investigation turns toward the death being caused by magic. As the investigation progresses, so does Colin and Lorelei’s relationship. Colin opens up to Lorelei as he has never done before even to let her know that he wants them to be together. Lorelei realizes she wants this too, but she is terrified to share her past with Colin so she tries to keep a firm grip on her secrets. Events move forward for others in the pack too and the situation with the magic comes to a head at the same time that the lid blows off on Lorelei’s secrets. It was a wild rush to the end that of course leaves the door wide open for much more to happen in this exciting series.

In a comparison, the other book has an overall darker feel to it and more tragic things happening with this one offering a feel of hope starting to grow a little for the new wolf pack. The plot also doesn’t have to deal with any pesky world building introductions and can get right into the action which was nice. I also found this new set of main characters a more intriguing couple because of all their baggage. There was a part of me that was nervous when I realized that Lorelei was holding out on Colin when she knew full well that he was practically strangling himself with self-control and feeling guilty when trying- and sometimes failing- in his attempts to gain her trust while opening up and giving her his trust. It was one of those things when I didn’t need a crystal ball to see where this relationship was going and what would/had to happen to make it right. To be fair, I don’t think the direction of the relationship’s plot was meant to be a big secret. While I prepared myself for the inevitable, I also enjoyed watching their relationship grow little by little and get to know them both. They are passionate people and unashamed and honest about it. Neither are coy, but they also were careful to take things at a good pace. Colin saw himself as so dark, but it was neat how being with Lorelei tempered this in him and soothed him. And for Lorelei, Colin was her refuge and she felt utterly safe for the first time when she was with him.
As to the other plot thread involving the magic, the ghosts and the witches, I confess to being a bit confused as to what is going on, but I’m trying to be patient since this is a series plot thread that will hopefully be explained later.

It was a good, strong sequel that does its job of telling a new couples’ story while not neglecting the rest of the pack and it makes me eager to find out what happens next in the series and who gets to be next for their story. I can recommend this book/series to those who enjoy paranormal shifter romances with a bit of spice.

Lorelei and Colin are both trying to find their place at the wolf sanctuary Green Pines. Lorelei has a troubled, heartbreaking past that she’s trying to deal with, by not dealing with it and Colin, an enforcer for the pack, wants to help her but doesn’t know how. They don’t act on their feelings initially, the pack is already dealing with many issues and trying to bring everyone together into one pack is proving to be an ordeal. But when Jay, their alpha, doesn’t stand in their way, Colin wants to be with Lorelei.

I admit, even having read book 1, I was still struggling to get caught back up with who was who and why they were acting the way they were. Initially after a run, Lorelei wants to cross the line with Colin but he refuses and it took a little bit to understand why and to remember the characters and what each of them is dealing with. Being wolves, there really isn’t much in the way of romance build-up. Colin recognizes his mate in Lorelei and during one run they come together. But it’s not easy going as Lorelei has secrets that she’s not ready to reveal and Colin is still learning when to push her and when to lay off. It leads to some friction but ultimately helps Lorelei start to put the past behind her.

The sanctuary is also dealing with a powerful group of witches who are casting strong spells over the pack, their ultimate goal is getting to the alpha pair, specifically Eden, but Lorelei and Colin get caught in the middle. I didn’t feel very connected to the witches storyline, but it did serve a pretty big purpose in bringing other characters out into the open. One surprise character shows up and ends the story in a scene with Colin. It sets up a lot of fun, interesting potential for the future books.

Speaking of future books, there is great set up for stories for Zach, Eden’s half-brother and a man dealing with so much it’s still uncertain if he’ll ever be able to make himself whole again, Kaley and Mae. All these characters are struggling to find “normal” in their lives and I was almost more interested in their stories than I was Lorelei and Colin’s. Not great for the book’s lead characters to be a bit outdone by the supporting characters, but it just made me anxious for more and to see where the series is heading.

Holy smokes! I forgot how much I adore these wolves and their messed up lives. Seriously, this pack has had it rough and they're nowhere near healed from their experiences in Memphis. They all need massive quantities of hugs and lots of time finding themselves again so they can be happppppy again.

I'm not sure whether I feel more for Lorelei and her obvious pain and brokenness or Colin and his hidden issues. I'm *almost* leaning toward Colin just because he doesn't even realize what a wreck he is until he gets brutally honest with himself. Lorelei knows she's hanging on by her fingernails. She knows she's only kept thing together as long as she has because *somebody* had to. If she fell, there wouldn't be anyone left to protect the others in her pack and she couldn't allow that. Colin wants the normalcy of pack life but he doesn't know how to take it when it's there.

I just love these guys to pieces, I tell you!

Beyond just a group of broken wolves, there's also some STUFF going on that puts their hard fought safety in jeopardy. The secondary characters truly shine and have such wonderful depth and personality as they battle to protect what remains of their pack.

Things are happening here. Secrets are being revealed. Strange goings on are being unearthed. The past is rearing its ugly head and things are getting tense.

I want MOAR.

E: If you have been following The Bookpushers website or any of our twitter accounts for a while you will have noticed that we are huge fans of Moira Rogers because of their ability to build very diverse worlds, strong intriguing characters, and compelling storylines. Haunted Wolves continues in this tradition as we get to watch a lone tired alpha find his home and a woman who forgot what home was create a new one as they struggle to assist in strengthening the new werewolf sanctuary. Haunted Wolves takes place immediately following Haunted Sanctuary with the decimated pack still dealing with the aftermath of torture, death, and a brutal fight for safety. Although the wolves have found a safe place to live, they are still threatened. First, they have to support themselves not just physically but financially and most of their belongings as well as the supplies needed to expand their fledgling business were left in storage when they fled. Second, the ghostly presences around Green Pines appear to targeting the wolves one by one and killing them slowly without leaving a mark. And third they are all wounded in heart and soul still struggling to heal.

MinnChica: I think Rogers does such a wonderful job creating paranormal worlds that are rife with political turmoil. The Red Rocks and Green Pines series are both all about the corrupt alpha wolf packs, and the few good men and women who want to make a difference. I love reading these books because there is always such a huge sense of triumph at the end of each story. Not only does one lucky couple get their HEA, but as a reader, I always feel like the characters are taking one huge step in the fight for their freedoms. I love it. This book was no exception. The Green Pines characters are all so traumatized, and poor Lorelei has a lot of history she hasn’t fully dealt with. I loved that although she was scared of Colin, she also was so attracted to him that fear wasn’t able to manifest. I thought both characters were so strong and fit each other perfectly. I adored them together.

E: Colin was one of the lone wolves who made his way by killing rogue Alphas who were abusing their position as leader but never stayed in one place once his job was finished. Over the years Colin has grown tired of his lifestyle but does not think that change is possible. However, something about the wolves in Green Pines has kept him in place helping as they try to build themselves back up. He finds that attraction focused mainly on Lorelei who was one of the pillars that kept the group together and going long enough to find safety. But she is also tired, worn down and mistrusting.

Lorelei lost everything she had more than once but never let herself quit fighting because someone else always needed her to be the strong one. For the first time she doesn’t have to be strong but she also isn’t prepared to deal with her multiple losses so she can heal. In an attempt to keep her memories and sadness at bay she goes until exhaustion, barely recovers and goes again. As she becomes aware of Colin on different levels she is willing to use him to satiate her more primal urges but refuses to let herself actually depend on him for anything. Past history has taught her never to trust. I loved watching their interactions together throughout this story as they learned to heal and trust each other in order to save the sanctuary.

MinnChica: I thought they had great interactions together as well. Colin was so worried about being too much for her, about hurting her inadvertently. At the same time, Lorelei was worried that she wouldn’t be enough for him, that her past would be too much to overcome, both for herself and for Colin. The way they were able to lean on one another and provide a stability to their little pack was wonderful to see. I also loved getting to see the way the pack is growing and becoming more healthy. I am so excited to see where Rogers takes this group of people next!

E: Yes, their equal tentativeness mixed with protectiveness was just wonderful. It was like watching them dance some steps were together, some were apart some in opposite directions but the whole was beautiful. Lorelei proved that she was strong enough and learned that Colin trusted her on an elemental level when they were facing the unseen threat that was targeting their pack. Those scenes were so very intense and I remember having to uncurl and remember how to breathe again as that particular tension was released. Colin made my heart completely melt (along with Lorelei’s) when he demonstrated towards the very end that he has listened and heard everything she said and didn’t say. If there was ever a grand gesture of love when one wasn’t required it was right then and there.

Like MinnChica said, watching the entire pack grow and become healthier was also a treat. I enjoy how Rogers is able to meld the couple’s journey seamlessly with that of the greater environment because it helps me stay invested in the world. I am so looking forward finding how who the next couple will be and what they will have to overcome as they continue to strengthen the sanctuary.

As I said in the beginning Rogers continues their string of stories I love and demonstrates why they are an auto-buy with this installment. They provide heat, tension, suspense, tenderness, and high stakes for more than the focus couple creating a story and world that stands up well to re-reading. Haunted Wolves answered several questions raised in Haunted Sanctuary and asked even more questions that I can’t wait for the answers in Haunted Magic.
I give Haunted Wolves an A.

MinnChica: All in all I thought that Rogers had another stellar installment to their Green Pines series. I thought the relationship between Lorelei and Colin was so well done, with their romance being both sweet and sexy. Rogers has done an amazing job creating a pack of characters I am so interested in and can’t wait to see them all get their happily ever after (especially Zack!). I love the way dynamics in the pack are changing, and how each new couple is stabilizing the whole of the pack. I can’t wait to see how the political climate changes as the series progresses.

I’m really into this new Green Pines series by Moira Rogers. Though all of her books have evil to fight, tortured characters who need healing, who need help finding their way, this series takes all of that and more to a new level.

Haunted Wolves picks up some weeks after Haunted Sanctuary. Terrified and nearly without hope, these wolves who have escaped the evils of Memphis and its scumbag of an alpha are trying to get their lives back on track. But it’s going to be one long, hard road. Lorelei is the wolf who sacrificed the most to keep others out of harm’s way. She’s the one everyone turns to now when needed, as they get used to a new alpha and his mate. As much as it would be nice to have her burden lifted, that’s just out of the question right now.

Then there’s Colin. An alpha wolf who’s always been a loner, the enforcer who’s got a lot on his conscience, but he’s promised to stick around to help do what he can to keep this sanctuary open for those in need. He’s also promised not to push, not to get too close and personal with the female wolves. And there’s one who he’d like to get to close to. He’s not used to being part of a pack, and now having to resist those primal urges makes every day a challenge. But what I like about Colin is his willingness to try. He soothes with his magic and his touch, drawing Lorelei closer to him, though neither realize that until much later.

Unexplained things begin to happen, which puts more fear into those who are emotionally injured, pushing the alphas to dig deeper to find a solution. It’s Colin and Lorelei who head to Memphis to find out if that past has anything to do with what’s going on. Lorelei is one of those strong heroines who does what has to be done, despite what it will cost her, and this trip may cost her plenty. They discover what they need to know, along with a few things that push her to her limits, and the admiration for her goes up tremendously. Ms. Rogers has written a heroine I won’t forget for a very long time.

Once home things begin to move very quickly, danger and magic intertwining to force both Colin and Lorelei to keep working together to bring out their power and put a stop to the evil worming its way through the pack. Those are terrific action-packed scenes where trust is built and a future begins to look bright for not only these two but also the pack itself. I enjoyed Colin and Lorelei a lot. They have so much to overcome and need each other desperately, and working their way to love is definitely worth it in the end.

It’s nice to see Jay and Eden again, the alphas who offer sanctuary in Green Pines. There’s so many who need the help, including Zach, the alpha who’s barely holding together after all they’ve been through. I find him an intriguing character and am anxious to get to his story to find out who the heroine will be to make him whole again. Along with those who are emotionally needy, there are also others like Colin who are strong physically but who, too, need a soft touch to make their lives better with a love to get them through. I anticipate their stories just as much.

And for me the shifting scenes are well done. I always ask for more of those scenes because that’s why I read shapeshifter books. Ms. Rogers delivers on that score in this story, especially near the end when Colin is needed the most. There can always be more, but I’m happy with what’s given here, mostly because of the emotional impact these characters have. I’m already wishing I have the next book in hand.

I do really enjoy Moira Rogers' sexy shifter stories. But while there were parts of the book I really liked, I had just a few niggles that kept this from being a home run for me.

The past few years of Lorelei's life have been miserable. She has lost her son, nearly lost her sanity, and endured the destruction of her pack. She has barely held it together, but now, she has two new alphas to give her the safety and peace she has been sorely lacking.

Colin is attracted to Lorelei but her abuse at the hands of other wolves has made her firmly off limits. Until she takes the initiative and acts on the sexual tension they've got going on. They begin a fragile relationship, but there are many unspoken truths between them. Colin needs the pack every bit as much as Lorelei does. He's been a lone wolf for too long; had to see too much --kill too many-- as an enforcer. Both of them feel broken by their pasts. The difference is, Colin has no idea just how deep Lorelei's pain really runs.

The dynamic between these two is really good (with one exception I will get to in a moment.) At the beginning, there is a lot of pull as they skirt the sexual tension. Later, the actual sex is hot. And they are easy to root for as they try to give one another the things they need. Colin struggles to make Lorelei feel safe and revels in the way she entrusts her body to him. They are more whole together than apart.

As they try to find their way together, someone or something is targeting the pack. One member is killed at the hand of magic. So Lorelei and Colin travel to Memphis to see if the Bad Wolves there have something to do with it. In doing so, Lorelei is forced to confront more of her past and Colin begins to see there is so much about her he doesn't know.

I had two issues with the book: one in the internal conflict, one in the external. My problem with the external conflict: I'm still not really sure what happened. I'm not sure how the Bad Guys were using the magic to attack the pack and I'm not sure why. Yeah, I know their names and their supernatural type, but the bigger explanation is not there. I'm sure we'll get into it in future books, but not getting it now feels really anticlimactic.

As for my relationship issue... there comes a point in the book where all of Lorelei's secrets come out. I was unhappy with Colin's reaction; unhappy that Lorelei is painted in the wrong. Her kid is dead. She is a train wreck. This is not about you, Colin. (Plus, I have to say I had a little trouble following her explanation of how her son died.) Anyway, it bothered me that her grief became about Colin.

Overall, I did like it. It just wasn't my favorite. --Now I am looking forward to seeing poor Zach put himself together. I do love a good tortured hero.

Rating: B-

This review was requested by the publicist of the author. I did enjoy the first in the series, hence the agreement to the review, but that wouldn’t have influenced my decision. I did not get paid for this review but have dealt with the author in the past.

Do not read this book if you haven’t read the first in the series. You will be confused and, to be honest, in places I was a little confused even though I had reviewed it. I am a bit of scatter brain and had issues remembering the back story of each of the characters. That would be my only complaint!

This series is not an easy read. Compellingly twisty and fraught, it takes concentration to keep track of the action that is packed into this novella. There is a lot of plot threads interwoven but the main focus was the romance between the two main characters. For the sake of this review, I will be focusing there, but I will say that I did find the magic plot a little confusing. I knew that this element of danger was used to keep the tension high, and drive them together, but I found it a little awkward.

I really really liked Lorelei. A strong heroine, she was used to standing in the way of trouble to protect others, no matter what the cost to herself. As soon as I heard her back story, I knew that I wanted her to get a HEA. She was constantly putting others first and I knew that she would need a strong hero to stop her unrelenting need to sacrifice herself for the other women. The way she responded to Colin was quite heartbreaking. She was only willing to use him to sate the physical response to him and I just wanted her to realise that she could have more. She could be happy if she let him in but the layers of abuse had caused some pretty massive damage. She had some very deep secrets that she was protecting too which were more important to her than acting on an attraction to Colin.

The chemistry between Colin and Lorelei was pretty awesome all the way through the tale. Colin was yummy. He was broken in his own way but he was so used to protecting people that it was second nature to gravitate towards Lorelei. He didn’t want to be drawn to her but his wolf recognised his mate. He didn’t want to be the person that just warmed her bed and so tried to push maybe that little bit too much which it frustrated me. He had his own conflicts that kept him away from anything too serious as he didn’t know how to run with a pack for a long time and the one thing he understood about Lorelei was her need for pack. It was all very angsty!!

There is a lot of other things going on and I will be picking up the rest of the series. I must read as each of these broken people get some healing!

This is the second in a series that is fast becoming something that I would auto-buy. This is an angsty, sexy ride with some seriously tortured, self-sacrificing characters that needed some love.

HAUNTED WOLVES is book two in the Green Pines series and begins where the last book finished off. As a result, I think it’s imperative that you this series in order. There is a shift of focus to a new couple, Colin and Lorelei. In comparison, this second installment is far most angsty than the first. Lorelei has some secrets that she has been hiding from everyone, however Colin is the one person who sees through it like glass.

It is their dark dance that is most appealing to readers. I think it gives us a greater understanding of the events that have transpired and how the wolves are coping with it. It also creates dimension in characters that are new to us but have the ability to burrow into our hearts.

As I read, I found this book to have a tone similar to Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series and more specifically with her changeling characters. There’s that touch of angst and a harrowing tone that laces the pages of this book. But that isn’t to say that there aren’t smiles along the way. I thought there was a good balance of focus on the couple while also integrating the rest of the pack into the storyline. With so many characters, it’s easy to get lost in the worldbuilding, the magic and the romance. I thought Moira Rogers did this well.

The only thing that kept me from giving this book a solid 4 is that I don’t think it gave me a lasting impression. I was looking for something that clawed into me with the amount of angst involved. Apart from that though, this was a nice journey while it lasted.

I loved this book. I really loved it, and I know it’s the first of a trilogy and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book. Sebastian Lock and Sophia Pearce are some of my new favorite characters.

I’m not always a fan of first person stories in erotic romance stories, but Sophia is such a fun character. I loved being in her head. Her thoughts and the way she’s a daredevil at times, she’s someone I would love to go to bar with. She’s adventurous, fun, and just the lady that everyone needs as a best friend. The way she didn’t immediately fall at Sebastian’s feet even though she was very turned on and wanted him badly was a great change from a lot of other books.

With the way we spend the book in Sophia’s head we don’t know that much about Sebastian except through her eyes. He’s gorgeous, mysterious, charming and very much in control. I liked him, and his pursuit of Sophia.

I did almost throw my Nook at the end of the book, but that’s because Ms. Cross ended it perfectly to have me screaming for the next book. I definitely commend her for her superb writing skills, she drew me in and involved me into the characters’ lives and I’m looking forward to the next two books and the conclusion of this trilogy. I think this is a great story for BDSM story fans that also love spunky heroines and mysterious heroes.

I loved Haunted Sanctuary, so when Haunted Wolves release approached I e-mailed and requested an review copy. And Bree graciously sent me one :).

This is a poignant tale, with a theme of taking the steps to heal past scars. And the most poignant part was Lorelei's and Colin's romance. I loved it. From the first step to acknowledging the spark, to acting on it, to starting to build a relationship. Both Lorelei and Colin had their scars, and I really appreciated how they started to trust each other, and help each other heal the worst of the scars.

The plot was well crafted, and filled with unexpected twists. I loved how everything was connected, and how even the most tiniest thing could turn out to be pivotal. I especially liked how the setting and the plot was interconnected. Things happening at the farm propelled the plot forward, as did old prejudices in the town.

The biggest problem I had was that all the other emotions in the book occassionally overshadowed the spark between Lorelei and Colin. But it was an wonderful romance, and I look forward to read the next book in the series.

Reading this series makes me a little sad. So many of the pack is broken, but what makes it worse is that they know it. They are working to come back, but it is a long road, one that comes with lots of bumps.

Colin and Loreli are no different than the others at Green Pines, broken like the others. Both of them have issues from their past that they are running from, issues different from those that made them come to Green Pines. Those issues made it hard for them to try to get better because in order to do so they had to trust someone and talk about things. I really liked watching both of these two build the trust. A lot of the time it was one step forward, two steps back. I liked how things ended with these two, thought it fit them and what they went through.

I enjoyed reading about issues with the rest of the pack. While I was sad for Zack, I think that the choice that he made was the right one for the long term. I also liked seeing Eden and Jay settle into their roles as alphas and how the others in the pack are doing. I am intrigued by what they all have learned about the ghosts that linger at the farm.

The star rating given reflects my opinion within ‘the official goodreads rating system’.

1 star: Didn’t Like it
2 stars: It’s Okay
3 stars: Liked it
4 stars: Really Liked it
5 stars: It Was Amazing

I don’t really give a rat-fuck that there are some who think I ‘owe’ an explanation for my opinion. Nope, nada, and not sorry about it.

Sometimes I may add notes to explain what my opinions are based on, and sometimes I don’t. I do this for me, on my books, in my library and I don’t ‘owe’ any special snowflakes a thing. Fuck off if you don’t like it and stop reading my shit.

Particularly given the ‘modifications’ to reader’s personal content going on (and outright censorship), unless particularly motivated I will not comment in detail.

It would help if GR was forthcoming in the new ‘appropriate’ and would make a site-wide announcement delineating the new focus from a reader-centric site to one that is now for authors and selling.

Shifter Colin Knox is tired, as his work as an executioner, he doesn’t have friends and lacks the intimacy he so greatly desires. All those feelings are tightly wrapped when meets Lorelei Adams. Lorelei is a survivor, she is off limits, and she is still healing. Despite everything Lorelei is dealing with, she wants Colin even if he keeps trying to put her in the friend zone.

Lorelei is a strong character. She had experienced loss and abuse, and had made choices which others may judge her harshly for, but did so to protect herself and others. Colin has judged many and has somewhat distanced himself from others, but he is attracted to Lorelei. They are dealing with their pasts, but also attracted to each other. I liked seeing their relationship grow and how they supported each other.

This is the second book of the Green Pines series by Moira Rogers and is the story of Colin, an enforcer who is now based at Green Pines and Lorelei, one of the women escaped Christian Peters and found sanctuary at Green Pines.

Their is evil magic being used at Green Pines and Colin is determined to protect not only the pack , but more importantly Lorelei.

I loved all the angst of Lorelei's past and watching Colin find the balance between being a protector and being Lorelei's man was fantastic. I adore this series and once again I was left wanting to yell "what's next?!" when I got to the last page.
