Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala.She worked as a journalist in Malayala Manorama, later resigned to concentrate more on writing. She is also a well-known column-writer in Malayalam

K R Meera is one of the prominent writers of Malayalam literature. Her stories are deeply feministic and question the hold that men have on women. The writing is powerful in a way such that the questions she poses through her novels makes us question everything that we believed in.
Ormayude Njarambu, translated as The Memory Vein, is a short story which tells the story of three women, two of them are unnamed, depicting women as a whole. The three of them are from different age groups. One is young, has just married, the other is really old, and the last lady is the servant of the house.
The old woman contributes most of the dialogues in the story while the other two become listeners. The main specialty of Malayalam novels is the fact that silence becomes a character. We can feel the presence of unanswered questions weighing us down and hanging in the air. This story is no exception. Certain words are again and again spelled out reminding people that these things aren't suited for women in general, such a freedom, writing .etc.
This story is a really hard one to review, mainly because there are so many things the author hasn't conveyed clearly, leaving the readers to interpret it. (Any mistakes in this review regarding the content of this book are mine alone.)
Please try to read Hangwoman by the same author, you won't regret it.

The book is comprised of seven short stories which are quite really good. No too good but good. Even though they are short stories, they all have a deep and twisted meaning. K. R Meera raises questions through her books that will make you sit and think about it.
The short story 'ormayude njaramb' is the story of three women, two of them unnamed, depicting women as a whole. The author leaves a lot of unsaid things for the reader's to interpret it.
💬"മൂന്നാമത്തെ കഥ...?" പെൺകുട്ടി സ്വയമറിയാതെ വീണ്ടും ചോദിച്ചു.
വൃദ്ധ അടഞ്ഞു തുടങ്ങിയ കണ്ണുകൾ വലിച്ചു തുറന്ന് മുറിയിൽ അവളുടെ സ്ഥാനം പ്രയാസപ്പെട്ടു നിർണയിച്ചു. പിന്നെ ഒരു ക്രൂരമായ ചിരിയോടെ പറഞ്ഞു:"ദുർമ്മരണം".

സർപ്പയജ്ഞം, മച്ചകത്തെ തച്ചൻ, കൃഷ്ണഗാഥ, ഓർമ്മയുടെ ഞരമ്പ്, അലിഫ് ലെയ്ല, ടെററിസ്റ്, ഒറ്റപ്പാലം കടക്കുവോളം. എന്നിങ്ങനെ കെ ആർ മീരയുടെ 7 കഥകളുടെ സമാഹാരമാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം.
ഇതിലെ പല കഥകളിലും പലതും പറയാതെ പറയുന്ന ശക്തമായ മുഹൂർത്തങ്ങളുണ്ട്. മൗനം പോലും ഒരുപാട് സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രീതി കഥകളിൽ വായിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു. നിസ്സംഗമായ അവസ്ഥകളെ എത്ര ശക്തമായാണ് വായനക്കാരിലേക്ക് മീര പകരുന്നത്.

സർപ്പയജ്ഞം ഭയത്തിന്റെ മേമ്പൊടിയിലൂടെ പോകുമ്പോളും ആശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ നിശ്വാസത്തിൽ കഥ എത്തി നിൽക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നി.
കൃഷ്ണഗാഥയിൽ "എനിക്ക് വേദനിച്ചിട്ടല്ലേ അച്ഛാ ?" എന്ന് കൃഷ്ണ ചോദിക്കുമ്പോൾ, അത് വായിക്കുന്നവരെയും വേദനിപ്പിക്കും. ആ വാക്യം നൽകുന്ന നൊമ്പരം വലുതാണ്.
മച്ചകത്തെ തച്ചൻ ഒരു വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ മുന്നോട്ട് പോകുന്ന കഥയാണ്.

ഒറ്റപ്പാലം കടക്കുവോളം എന്ന കഥ നിസ്സഹായതയുടെ അവസ്ഥ വിവരിക്കുന്നു.

ആഖ്യാനശൈലി കൊണ്ട് മനോഹരങ്ങളായ കഥകളുടെ സമാഹാരം. 'കൃഷ്ണഗാഥ' , 'ഒറ്റപ്പാലം കടക്കുവോളം' തുടങ്ങിയ ഗൗരവമുള്ള കഥകൾക്കൊപ്പം 'അലിഫ് ലൈല' എന്ന തമാശക്കഥയും ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി മീര എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരി തന്റെ രചനാപാടവം തെളിയിക്കുന്നു. തൃപ്തികരമായ ഒരു പറ്റം കഥകൾ.
