Holly and Her Naughty eReader by Julianne Spencer is a romantic fantasy read. As much as this one screams erotica when looking at the cover it is so much more than the steamier moments in the book. There is actually a good blend of the fantasy with the books coming to life, the humor of a great rom-com and then the sizzle of the moments Holly chooses to lose herself in a 50 Shades knock off.
Holly Pritchett is what would be known as a book nerd, she’s a high school English teacher that spends her free time reading anything and everything she can get her hands on with her Kindle. When Holly travels to attend her high school reunion she brings the Kindle along only to drop it at the airport causing the device to stop working.
After attending the reunion and meeting up with old friends Holly leaves the reunion with a friend who now dabbles in witchcraft. As the pair continue the party a spell is cast unbeknownst to Holly who doesn’t discover it until she’s back at the hotel with her Kindle. Holly is not only surprised the Kindle is working but when she begins to read she is transported straight into the story.
Holly and Her Naughty eReader is another title I grabbed at some point on a whim when it was offered for free and I wasn’t expecting much, instead when I pick this one up it was actually a ton of fun. I’m sure there are plenty of book lovers out there that have their literary boyfriends so imagine jumping right into the books and living out those fantasies. There is plenty of action and excitement along with a lot of laughs even for those that aren’t fans of the steamier content too.

What a unexpected surprise this turned out to be!
I had spent the last month reading six Kristen Ashley books back to back. And while I adore her writing, I decided I should change things up a bit in order not burn myself out on her writing. So, I was looking around on Amazon for a quick, fun read and stumbled upon this freebie. I will freely admit to initially only being interested because the main character had my name (silly, i know), but once I read the synopsis, I knew this sounded like a book I would enjoy. And I definitely wasn't wrong.
You know that feeling you get when you're reading a really awesome book and you wish you could just transport yourself inside the story? To experience it as if you were one of the main characters? Well, thanks to a series of hilarious events, our intrepid protagonist Holly gets to do just that. Every time she picks up her beloved Kindle Fire, she literally finds herself inside the books she reads. Talk about a book nerd's dream come true!
Among the adventures we get to experience along with Holly: While diving into Breaking Dawn, Holly inhabits the body of Edward Cullen long enough to nix Bella's plans to name their baby Reneesme. In the gothic world of Wuthering Heights and in the body of Catherine, she steals away for a much needed night of passion with Heathcliff. But the one story Holly finds herself returning to again and again, is called His Golden Shackles. A Fifty Shades knockoff about a BDSM-loving billionaire wizard (yes...he's a wizard. And I really, really, really wish HGS was real because that's a combo I would LOVE to read about). And as with most things that seems too good to be true...there is a dark side to this book lover's paradise. Suddenly the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur, and some mighty famous (and infamous) fictional characters decide that they want to come out and play in the real world.
One of the best aspects to this book, was the humor. I read the majority of the story with a huge, goofy grin on my face. Obviously from the subject matter the author has a wicked sense of humor and she comes up with some incredibly well done, yet wacky scenarios. The following was one of the highlights of the entire book for me.
At the end of the hall stood a slim man wearing a dark purple robe. He carried a long stick in his hand. "Hello little Muggles," he said.
"Muggles?" I said
The man had an oddly shaped head and was missing a nose.
"Is that...Voldemort?"
And then, I kid you not, the elevator door opened and Yoda stepped out.
"Oh dear, the little green elf has come back for more." said Voldemort.
"Lacking humility you are," Yoda responded before firing up his lightsaber and leaping out of the elevator like a spastic, acrobatic monkey.
Now there's an image that I won't soon forget.
While this book might not be for everyone, i found it to be completely charming and I can honestly say I had more fun reading this book than any other I have tackled in 2012.
If you're going to read something, then read it with gusto. Bring the world to life in your mind with all the vitality, nuance and adventure you can. Those characters are counting on you to make their world an interesting place to live.
Ignore the silly title and cover. This book is a hidden gem. Perfect for anyone who ever read a book and wanted to BE the characters. Which is just about everyone who comes on GR! It's FREE on Amazon. Grab it and read it...thank me later.

I wasn't expecting much when I found this freebie on Amazon, but the premise sounded interesting. Imagine being able to actually become a character in a book, to interact with the other characters, even to be able to change something about the ending that you didn't like the first time you read it. Well, that's exactly what happens to Holly in this gem of a book by Julianne Spencer.
Pop culture references abound, with (affectionate) digs at Harry Potter, Twilight, Star Wars, The Hunger Games, and most especially, the Fifty Shades phenomenon, in the form of a Fifty Shades knockoff book-within-a-book called His Golden Shackles. I'm still laughing!

2.5 stars = okay plus. I got this as a kindle freebie. The premise of this was cute - especially for those of us addicted to our kindles. The leading lady's broken Kindle fire gets enchanted on the night of her 10th high school reunion. I loved the idea of actually being able to enter stories and take control of the characters - the leading lady rewriting the end to Wuthering Heights was great. I was less fond of the choice of some of the stories, there is a fair bit of homage to Twilight and a Fifty Shades knockoff with a wizard billionaire takes over the last half of the book and the ending just gets really weird - Jeff Bezos through the looking glass- to the point that I started skimming a bit in the last third. So a great idea that needed a better ending.

Weirdly addicting... quirky and mesmerizing, this book takes you on an trip thru Alice's Looking Glass - almost literally!
Holly is a 28 year old English teacher who was just discovered her boyfriend cheating on her. It's time for her 10th High School Reunion, and she decides she needs a change, so she goes. Holly brings her trusty Kindle with her (Amazon ought to love that!); she's an avid fan of erotica, paranormal romance, historical fiction, the classics - you name it. Holly's uncertain about her 10 year reunion, because she never quite got closure with Max - the boy who stood her up senior year.
After the reunion, Holly and her e-reader end up at her friend Vivica's house. Viv is some sort of New Age/wiccan... something. In a drunken stupor, Viv does some sort of "ritual" over Holly's Kindle. And suddenly, when Holly's reading her Kindle, she's not just reading.... she's IN the story!
One of Holly's favorite stories is His Golden Shackles, a sort of Twilight goes 50 Shades of BDSM-lite with a dash of wizardry from Harry Potter. The hero, Christoph, is a sorcerer who looks like Robert Pattinson and acts like Christian Grey. When Holly finds herself BEING Annabelle Stone, she can't resist. She throws herself into that and many more of her favorite stories, even changing characters to get different points-of-view.
When Holly comes up for air (several days later), she phones Vivica in a panic. Viv tells her to bring over the Kindle and promptly confiscates it, "for Holly's own good". Later that day, Holly learns that Viv's become addicted to her Kindle. And then Viv runs off with the darned thing, leaving Holly to deal with Viv's housemate, yep - Max - to get it back. But Max isn't quite Max... and Holly needs to figure out how to get them all out of this Kindle mess once and for all.

It's a cute book - it certainly sucks you in! But this book changes personalities like quick-silver. It's tough to pin down. Until towards the end, when we discover a moral to this entire tale. Who knew?
So why did I only give it a 3-star rating? Because there's so much crazy chaos and so much insanity in the book... it's tough to read at times, because it's over-the-top ridiculous. And yet, it's fun and funny. And then it tries to become something else altogether... and ends up being a bit philosophical. As a reader, I felt "rode hard and hung out to dry". Seems like there should have been a more straight line from A to Z.
But if you're in the mood for something that'll blow your mind and then bring you down to Earth again, this book might just be it.

"Have you ever thought about your responsibility as reader of the story?...The words on the page are nothing but ink. Lines and curves and dots organized in a most peculiar fashion. It's not until you read them that they become something more.I'd say more, but then I'd certainly spoil the book for someone else.

I think the title is deceiving....and in a GOOD way! I was expecting this to be a cheesy sex romp story with no actual plot and was pleasantly surprised! Title should actually be "Holly and her MAGICAL e-reader."
The story starts out with Holly going to her 10 yr high school reunion after finding her fiancé' in bed w/ a 19 year old. Feeling totally inadequate with her life to this point, she rekindles and old friendship and then things get really weird. But in a good way. The roller coaster ride starts when her long lost friend Vivian unintentionally casting a spell on Holly's kindle, and she's able to insert herself into actual books. Whatever she chooses. Oh how many of us would love to do that?! Anyway, there are so many educated references to so many books that I actually downloaded a few based on Holly's references to certain scenes. Especially "Wuthering Heights." I'd never been interested in this classic, but am going to read it now! Thank you to this husband/wife writing team for coming up with such a unique story that I really enjoyed.

This is definitely one of the best books I have read in a very long time! I read through the reviews and thought I might not care for the book at all but it was way better than I could have expected. I wish this would be turned into a movie! I loved it!!!!!! So fun and exciting!!! Not at all what I expected! 10 stars!!!!!

This seemed fun to me because we all dream of living out the stories we read, but, sadly, I was disappointed.
Holly is a neurotic and obsessive character, who overanalyzes men and relationships. I guess that’s why she comforts herself in make-believe fantasy crap like what you see in movies and books because there are a lot of references.
The character also seems to talk to the reader, blabbering on and on, not stopping for a single breath. She was like a broken record. Annoying!
And hearing her explain how her Kindle got broken was ridiculous. The fact that she blamed a guy from 10 years ago was stupid and immature. And that stupid farewell letter to her Kindle? Puh-leeze!

Holly goes to her 10-year reunion after she catches her fiance with a younger woman, and feels completely unsuccessful. Everyone has children and jobs and husbands, and all Holly has is her (broken) e-reader and a couple of friends back home. So when someone she hung out with in high school invites her over to her place, Holly goes. In the process, she runs into the boy who stood her up in high school, and participates in a magical ceremony. And even though the magical ceremony wasn't supposed to do anything real, when Holly's e-reader starts to work again, Holly is pulled into the stories in ways she never was before. In fact, she becomes the heroine in the stories.
Holly soon becomes obsessed with one story in particular, and starts to influence the way the story goes. But then, her friend takes her e-reader, and Holly is determined to get it back. When suddenly characters are appearing in real life, Holly knows that she has to do something.
This was such a jumbled mess. There wasn't really a story, other than the gimmick of the characters being real.

Ok, I know this book is several years old but just didn't ever get to it until now. I bought it a few years ago during one of those late night free book binges. Every time I look at I think "what a weird book, I have no idea what it is about." So it seemed a good time to finally figure it out. I was pleasantly surprised. This book had a bit of sex/smut but it wasn't really about that. It is actually a pretty decent story about what happens when you live a little too much life inside books (specifically a kindle) without paying attention to real life.

I went into this book with low expectations. But I really loved it. It is so funny and so cheesy. It was really a great time. Holly is this highschool English teacher. Who loves to read. She takes her Kindle everywhere and she can read anything. One day she goes to her high school reunion. She sees her old friend who use to be into witch craft. Who is no longer into it. She goes to her house afterwards and she ends up high on herbs her kindle is thrown and becomes magical. She loves her kindle and she gets deeply sucked into story after story after story. Her friend borrows the kindle and gets sucked in and cant get out. Then the story goes on from there. Like I said very cheesy but I could not stop reading it. I did not read what it was about before I got sucked into the story. So somethings were surprising. But it was just so good. Some parts reminded me of 50 shades.Then Twilight.
That’s how Stephen King described fiction writing: mind control. You sit down as a reader and consent to let the author take control of your thoughts for a time.
Books and reading, as well as all the other forms of art, are about mind control. We step away from the world we know for a time and let someone have at our thoughts. If that someone is skilled, we enjoy the experience and come away from it a little wiser about the human condition. Reading broadens our comprehension of the world. This book gave me mixed emotions. There were some topics that were brought up that I enjoyed, however I did not feel anything for the characters.
The idea of falling into your books and living the lives of any character was new and fun idea.
The main message of the book was cool (readers are responsible for the bringing the book to life). I agree with that to a point, i also believe that it is the writer's job to help bring the book to life. How many times we as readers read the back of a novel and think "hey this book sounds really good" only to find that book in fact was flat or just not up to par.
This is what Holly and Her Naughty eReader did for me. It sounded awesome but I felt no real feelings for her I didn't even care if she had a HEA.
The ending of the book also had me wondering, WHY? The guy she ends up with isn't really in the story and she never talks about how she wants to be with him. Or what kind of guy he is. All you really know is that she had a crush on him for the last three weeks of high school and then he stood her up on their first date. the book starts off ten years after that, so i don't see how a guy you knew for three weeks ten years ago and you don't get to know now becomes your HEA guy at the end.
Another difficulty i had with this book was how unbelievable it was. I like Holly can read a book a day if I want to. Because of this I see formals in every book i read, every tv. show i watch, and in every "life story" I hear. Holly as an avid reader and an English teacher you would think would do this too. In fact she does not. No she doesn't see that Vivian wants the Kindle for her self. She also doesn't really use her brain that much. Which doesn't makes sense since she is an English teacher. I mean come on a magical Kindle that allows you to step in to the book and have the most amazing orgasms of your life and you are just going to run over it with your car? Really? Really? Or the fact that it's normal for a man who just got out of a horrible divorce, was just in a serious relationship a day ago, works a dead end job and has no money, has the means to take you to expensive restaurants, a basketball game, buy you new clothes, and then has awesome sex with you. He never once talks about the break up or tells how much he has wanted you since high school and you don't think that's not fishy? its like they are trying to say that because she so obsessed with her you magic Kindle that she didn't notice reality. That doesn't make sense to me. You would think that because she has spent days dealing with the paranormal that she would see it a mile away.
With all that being said i did enjoy her topics on how reading is like mind control, that Edward, Bella, and Jacob where now stereotypical archetypes, and that when we read we are reading someone else point of view on the world. These are topics which i would love to discuss with others. Though I personally believe that the main twilight characters are just variations of characters from the classics, but that's for another time. I do feel that this book had great potentially but that the spent too much time making jokes, throwing out bestsellers and keeping the readers at a distance to really to really make it work.
This however is just my opinion and i'm sure other people really liked the story and i hope that future people will read and like the story for what it has to say.
The idea of falling into your books and living the lives of any character was new and fun idea.
The main message of the book was cool (readers are responsible for the bringing the book to life). I agree with that to a point, i also believe that it is the writer's job to help bring the book to life. How many times we as readers read the back of a novel and think "hey this book sounds really good" only to find that book in fact was flat or just not up to par.
This is what Holly and Her Naughty eReader did for me. It sounded awesome but I felt no real feelings for her I didn't even care if she had a HEA.
The ending of the book also had me wondering, WHY? The guy she ends up with isn't really in the story and she never talks about how she wants to be with him. Or what kind of guy he is. I'm on the fence with this...but definitely creative!
I'm currently reading this and some things said are not impressing me. The idea is awesome, but the material used...can I groan in exasperation? I'm going to lay it out here: I wasn't and will never ever be a fan of Twilight series. I did read 50's and was not impressed either. I read other really well written stories of this topic of alpha/billionaire etc type characters. I think, quite frankly, the thing that bothers me is something that has always bothered me when an idea is brought to the table and gets labeled as it was first. With Twilight and 50's this was never the case. Before these there was LJ Smith with vampires and other greats like Anne Rice if that was your thing. LJ Smith was my time's writer and I just couldn't get with Twilight. That said 50's was later than books like to name a few: Cherise Sinclair, Maya Banks, or Shayla Black or even Sherrilyn Kenyon to some extent (not so much BDSM element, but alpha males definitely). I have read other authors, that too, were written so much better than 50's. I think the words knockoff of 50's or the words flung out that books are cheap imitation of 50's was a far cry of what is truly a fact. The fact is it was a hype that was poorly written and was resorted to sparkle-pires and broody men with troublesome pasts and current woes that made him an alpha male by being dominant. This is why EL James books and Stephanie Meyers books never appealed to me whereas other books using elements of dominant characters was more appealing with my fave authors.
So, this is why I gave this 3 stars. The idea was pure genius though! The books used was rather blah to me (Twilight, 50's). And I just couldn't stop myself from constantly disagreeing (getting pissy more like it lol) with the author about the knockoff imitation wording. It was annoying. BUT ... the humor did ease up that annoyance. I will be adding more shortly as I finish this.
So I've finished it. Gotta say I had a feeling Vivian was going to be a complex character with a motive. Wow. She really takes jealousy and wanting someone's life to suck to a whole new level. The supernatural aspect of this was very creative! I adored Max and Holly was such a riot! But I loved the lesson she learned! So my final rating: 3.75 almost a 4. I still could have done without the Twilight/50's references. Like I mentioned, these stories came after other great stories which would mean that Twilight & 50's were knockoff's and cheap imitations of these great stories. If you haven't checked them out...do it! Sweet Series, Masters of Shadowlands, Wicked Series, and definitely Masters and Mercenaries series. TONS better and definitely written better. BUT do not misunderstand me, I'd read this again. It was fun, creative, and light on the angst! There were times I was going huh near the end, but I think that was intentional. I do recommend, but for those who are really against Twilight or 50's references be wary! OR just overlook the referencing of authors thoughts on this as her character Holly. I might get flamed for thinking otherwise against both book series...but I do have a strong opinion against 50's and to some extent Twilight. I would give this book about 3 1/2 stars because it was a fun, often funny and a quick read that I could relate to most of the time; however, there were some issues. As someone else mentioned "name dropping for book nerds," it does mention several books from literature ranging from Wuthering Heights to 50 Shades of Grey and if you haven't read those books or don't remember you might not get all the jokes but I think for the most part the author did a decent job of filling you in on what you needed to know.
That said, I do wish she had delved a little deeper into some of the fictional worlds she went into. It seems like besides the 50 Shades knock off and Wuthering Heights (I love what she did there; would have done the same) were the only ones she really took time with. There's a passing mention of Harry Potter and a lot of characters/stories made "cameos."
I had some problems in the beginning and the end of the story. I too, felt it was a little choppy in the early narrative and felt sometimes like she was trying too hard to be witty. I also just noticed that two authors are listed so maybe that is why it sometimes felt disconnected. I felt the end wrapped up just a little too quickly - even just an extra page or two would've have helped.
Some other things I didn't like - a little nit picky but they irritated me:
1. No way the guy could retrieve text messages from 10 years ago. I can't even retrieve messages from last week.
2. Never liked that either character felt dumped by the other in high school but NEVER once tried to say anything, not even to text "F you"?? Just seemed so unbelievable and was in the back of my mind throughout the book.
3. One character comes into a lot of money and gives it all away. Sorry, not buying it. Could have given half away and would have been plenty left over and more important, it would be been more believable.
4. I don't want to ruin anything so I'm just going to say that the initial switch was a bit confusing and still not sure I get how exactly it was pulled off. Again, don't want to say any more for those who don't know it's going to happen.
5. Holly and Vivian and how they interact sometimes. Much of it didn't make sense to me. Sometimes Vivian concerned friend and other times she seems very shallow and self-centered; it didn't make it mysterious just annoying. Holly follows Vivian to another state and gets a Facebook message saying
Things I did like:
1. As I said, I enjoyed the various stories she mentions, nearly all of which I was familiar. I loved what she did with Wuthering Heights and what she did with the 50 Shades knock off. I love how Vivian reacted to the kindle initially, which did seem believable.
2. The dialogue was good and sounded real.
3. After you get past the first chapter or two, the pace is fast and entertaining.
4. The mayhem near the end was funny. Clever use of Ben Wa balls, lol.
So if you are an avid reader and enjoy the idea of "what if you could enter some of the well-known works of literature"

Holly was not looking forward to going home to her high school reunion she was afraid she would see her high school crush Max who stood her up when she was 18 and worst of all she dropped her kindle and it broke Holly loves her kindle and after one night with her friend she cast some kind of spell and her kindle is on again except it's different this time she is the character in the story she thinks she's loosing her mind cause of what vivian did now she can be with hot guys in books in many different ways but then something happens a wall was broke between our world and the book world one of the characters has escaped and is in Max's body who Holly has been spending allot of time with since vivian disappeared with her kindle witch she didn't christoph took it he's inside max she' gets him back everyone is safe and she goes back home and then Holly receives a text that bring back memories of when she was 18 and Holly finds out some things that were in the past I loved this book I got it for free so I didn't think it would be anything special but you've got to read it

OMG, this book!
Contrary to the title, the action is pretty PG-13 at most. Which is a good thing, because anything more would have distracted from the hilarity of this great little book. Well, the cover here on Goodreads is pretty distracting, but luckily Amazon has a different one up because Goodreads' looks like something written by Paula Danziger or Barthe DeClements.
ANYWAY...what would you do if you discovered you could "fall into" your Kindle and live out the stories as they were written for the characters? What if you realized you could change the stories to better suit yourself? High school teacher and admitted Kindle-junkie Holly discovers she can do just that after a long-lost friend puts some peyote-inspired mojo on her Kindle, and the craziness (and addiction) begins!
This wickedly funny book spares no one in currently-popular e-book culture, zinging everyone from 50 Shades and EL James, to Twilight (the scene with "Ruh-nez-may" was to die for), to the sudden horde of poorly-written self-published BDSM billionaire novellas flooding Amazon. I cackled out loud more times than I could count.
The "twist" was extremely predictable, but no less funny and the ending was sweet and satisfying. There's nothing serious to be had here, so get ready for a giggle-worthy ride (preferably on the Amazon logo with Jeff Bezos).

You know that feeling you get when you're reading a really awesome book and you wish you could just transport yourself inside the story? To experience it as if you were one of the main characters? Well, thanks to a series of hilarious events, our intrepid protagonist Holly gets to do just that. Every time she picks up her beloved Kindle Fire, she literally finds herself inside the books she reads. Talk about a book nerd's dream come true!
Among the adventures we get to experience along with Holly: In the gothic world of Wuthering Heights and in the body of Catherine, she steals away for a much needed night of passion with Heathcliff. But the one story Holly finds herself returning to again and again, is called His Golden Shackles. A Fifty Shades knockoff about a BDSM-loving billionaire wizard (yes...he's a wizard).
But, as with most things that seems too good to be true...there is a dark side to this reader's paradise. Suddenly the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur, and some mighty famous (and infamous) fictional characters decide that they want to come out and play in the real world.
One of the best aspects to this book, was the humor. Obviously from the subject matter the author has a wicked sense of humor and she comes up with some incredibly well done, yet wacky scenarios.
While this book might not be for everyone, i found it to be completely charming.

I found this in the erotica section of Audible and the plot looked interesting. Let's get this straight (pardon the pun), Holly and Her Naughty eReader is not erotica. There are erotic elements to the story, but if you're expecting hot and heavy sex, go elsewhere. I don't generally review erotica, but this just isn't.
What you do get is a pretty reasonable fantasy story about a woman who gets an "unscheduled supernatural upgrade" to her Kindle Fire. This results in her Kindle letting her inhabit the bodies and minds of the characters in the stories, and she has something of a torrid time in a Fifty Shades knock-off novel called 'His Golden Shackles.' Of course, it all goes horribly wrong, but it's got a happy ending... and I really doubt I'm giving anything away in saying that.
The book starts strongly. Holly comes across a little like Jane Jameson from the 'Nice Girls' books by Molly Harper. The humour is similar and I like that kind of thing. The latter half of the book, as things begin to get crazier, is not so good, but still engaging. It starts reading like fan-fiction much more as the resolution unfolds. A shame, but not too damaging.
Worth a read, just don't expect rampant werewolf action or something as Holly delves into her new found fantasy worlds.

I'm not really sure what to think of this novel...really funny at times but also pretty depressing at others. I was also kind of disappointed with the ending. I hadn't exactly thought on how I wanted everything to go but I sure wasn't amazed by how the author finished it. I was specially irritated about how Holly dealt with Christoph from the beginning because after all the time spent with him she should've known him better. She should have been able to predict most of the events in this story. A magic kindle for Christ's sake! How she managed to be surprised when anything magical happened was beyond me. But I ended up having fun anyway and that's what mattered the most.
PS: And come on! Christoph? A dominating billionaire wizard with a thing for submissive women? You had to know it would end badly!
PPS: And what's with giving the money to Vivian? It's like rewarding her for the crap she did! I know she was a teenager, and honestly I have no problem understanding and forgiving her for her actions then, but never reach out and apologize as a grown woman? Having full perception of her deceit and how it hurt Holly? That was not acceptable and giving her the money when she didn't even tried to make amends? Crappy ending, I tell you.

This book is about a woman who, at the time of her 10th high school reunion, finds her Kindle Fire broken as she is travelling to the reunion. When she connects with an old school chum and along the way inciting some form of accidental magic, her Kindle suddenly works again but takes her into the story itself.
That would be interesting.
However, Holly's choice of reading material and what she is interested in reading is fairly far off on another path than my typical reading choices and so I was incredibly bored by her adventures into her books. Incredibly bored incredibly quickly and I quit this one at 25% of the way through.
Also, as much as I read "impossible to believe" storylines, I really, really could not suspend disbelief to even begin to give credence to this one. Cute idea though. Humorous enough in the lead up to where the magic starts to come into play and then it devolved into the character playing out her literary fantasies and I use the word Literary loosely but Fantasies would be right on the mark.
I do not personally recommend it, but can completely understand if someone else has a completely different point of view on this one.

Still reading, but am compelled to say that this book, so far, has the best writing style that I have come across. The character is telling ME the story as if we were sitting across a diner table from each other drinking coffee. I am only about halfway through and will update when I am done with it.

Okay! Just finished the book and I still have the same opinion of the writer--AMAZING! You can tell her love of literature by the way she writes. She names a wide variety of books in the story and I relate to each title as I enjoyed them as well.
Yes, there are some naughty bits in the story, but I still stand by my statement above that "Naughty" is an off (for lack of a better word) part for the title. "Magic" or "Magical" or "Possessed" would work. LOL
Julianne Spencer has a wonderful and delightful imagination (did she dream this story?) and I am anxious to read more of her tantalizing words. Bravo!

Okay! Just finished the book and I still have the same opinion of the writer--AMAZING! You can tell her love of literature by the way she writes. She names a wide variety of books in the story and I relate to each title as I enjoyed them as well.
Yes, there are some naughty bits in the story, but I still stand by my statement above that "Naughty" is an off (for lack of a better word) part for the title. "Magic" or "Magical" or "Possessed" would work. LOL
Julianne Spencer has a wonderful and delightful imagination (did she dream this story?) and I am anxious to read more of her tantalizing words. Bravo!

With a title like "Holly and Her Naughty E-reader" I was not expecting much… and that is exactly what I got. I was hoping I was wrong about the title but unfortunately what you see in the title is what you get out of the book.
I was hoping there would be more romance an intrigue. Instead I got laugh out loud funny and irks of high school romance.
Overall, I get that the story was a high school reunion fantasy; what should happen at a high school reunion but I was getting worried a bit and was wondering if there was going to be any romance involved in the story.
References to Yoda (Star Wars) and oversexed romance novel characters spoiled the background romance between the real characters of the story.
Overall, I will admit the story was fun to read, but I only gave 3 stars because I was hoping for more of a heartfelt romance.

I was super excited about the book. When I saw it on goodreads I knew I had to get it so I did. I did really like the book in the beginning but I skipped the 3rd last and 2nd last chapters because I was getting too bored of the magic and everything. I am not a sucker for all magic like things unless it involves humor and fun and the last part got really boring. But if I am honest then I have to tell you that I did really enjoy the book from the bottom of my heart. I found myself laughing at many occasions. I also feel what the character goes through when she finds that her life is unsettled unlike the rest of her friends. If you are into HP, and all of the other books the author keeps mentioning I am sure you will enjoy the book. The writer's efforts are very visible. She gave the book her all and I look forward to reading more of her pieces in the future. Oh and this book also encouraged me to switch to kindle from kobo

I gave this book a fair shot, but at the 30% mark I found myself wondering if I remembered to take out the recycling and if my grey hairs were becoming more noticeable.
I absolutely LOATHE when authors break the fourth wall, especially when it is handled the way this author did. She tried so hard to be hip and witty, littering the narrative with so many pop culture references that I wondered if the book was sponsored by Amazon Prime. It reeked of desperate, "Aren't I cool? Are we friends now?" pandering. By the fifth or sixth time that the college-educated, professional teacher referenced Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey as her examples of literary genius, I was done. (And a side note to the author...you don't have to tell us that Stephanie Meyers was influenced by classic tales such as Wuthering Heights. Meyers already beat that horse. Repeatedly.)
Sadly, what could have been an interesting plot line was ruined by an author with a fan-fiction hard-on for terrible writers.

We, as book lovers as always said we wanted to be in the world of our favorite characters or to be our favorite character and this book allowed us to see what would happen if that were the case. After reading this book I am not sure I would want to jump in the worlds of my characters or as my favorite character.
This book was so hilarious, I hadn't laughed this hard in a long time while reading a book. This was so much fun to read at the same time you see the consequences of wanting something so badly that you become addicted. Maybe I just will have to step away from my Kindle more often . Who am I kidding? I don't think I would do that, but I know I will think twice about wanting to be my favorite character.

I, of course, still always judge a book by its cover even though I know better, and I originally downloaded this because the girl on the cover looks identical to Jess' friend Cici on the show New Girl (silly reason, I know!). This was such a great book! I didn't see the twists and turns coming at all! The heroine is funny and self-deprecating but not to the point that it's annoying. Also, the sex-related scenes are more hardcore than most but I was not uncomfortable reading them (I usually am because it's not my cup of tea) because the author was great at making them humorous at the same time. I highlighted more passages in this book than I have in any other book I've read through my Kindle!!! There are just so many hilarious, colloquial lines that you find yourself remembering them later and repeating them out loud for fun! Great read!!! Highly recommend! :)
