Hot enough to melt steel, Lytton has forged a life apart from the reservation as a brilliant chemist, living the high times at his pot farm in the mountains. Lytton is no fortunate son, though, and the mortal secrets Ford’s been hiding about their father drive the last nail into their brotherly coffin. Lytton turns his back on the Bare Bones and sweet bleeding heart June. Blinded by vengeance, Lytton becomes ruled by his own demons, raising hell alongside Ford’s mortal enemies, The Cutlasses. Alliances are torn apart within the club, loyalties are divided, and everyone’s true spirits are tested. When the dust clears, Lytton and June find themselves running for their lives just to… STAY VERTICALPublisher’s This is Book #2 in the Bare Bones series. Wow ! That is all..LOL

This story was amazing from start to finish, I loved Lytton, although his arrogance turned me off in the beginning I immediately fell for him once June took him over, he's sexy as hell and a Dom but also a sweet caring guy for June. Love June too, she's earthy crunchy, smart as hell and has a heart of gold. They just can't help themselves around each other, I love how Lytton opens him self up to emotions and caring about someones pleasures not just his own. Love that Maddy and Ford were a big part of this story, love their characters and of course the secondary characters too; Toby, Turk, Speed and so many more. A lot of action and WTF moments and I mean WTF moments!!! Amazing twists and turns and holy shits. This book rocked it!!! Amazing writing, amazing characters. Amazing everything...and a wow HEA. Can't wait for more from Layla....5 huge stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com

Well, Layla Wolfe does it again!!!! The characters from the first book The Bare Bones are still here, but we are introduced to a few new characters. Lytton, the half-brother of Ford, is my new "boyfriend"!!! He has a PHD in Chemistry from MIT, and operates a legal marajuana farm called the Leaves Of Green. I loved the characters associated with the Leaves Of Green. He finds out Ford killed his Father, and plots revenge against him and The Bare Bones. He sides with the Cutlasses, The Bare Bones' sworn enemies. Maddy sister, June is back in town after a stint with the Peace Corps. She see Lytton and is immediately smitten. After several "meetings", She convinces Lytton that his revenge plot is wrong, and he tries to make things right. Romance blossoms between June and Lytton and is very sexy!!! I loved this book and hope Layla continues with future works.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Nice Ladies, Naughty Books.

June Shellmound has spent most of her life running from problems or running towards them. Her early life was spent trying to survive the neglectful tactics that fed her mother's neuroses. After college, she joined the Peace Corps to help others having a fighting chance at life.

Her world is turned upset down when she find out her mother is sick. Even though her mother wasn't the best in the world, June feels an obligation to come home and to make sure she is cared for during her illness.

Lytton Driving Hawk is a man who grew up believing that his father was Kino Driving Hawk, until he was told by the scholarship board at MIT that he was a half-breed. Losing his sense of self, his girlfriend, and his dreams, Lytton returned the reservation with a chip on his shoulder and contempt for his "white" half.

When Lytton discovers who his real father is, he storms down the mountain to confront his half-brother, Ford. June happens to be there as well and immediately falls into lust with the mysterious stranger that looks more than little like her brother-in-law. Listening to Lytton confront Ford, June can't help but notice the sadness in Lytton's eyes.

Knowing that June is connected to the Bare Bones MC, Lytton's only thought is to get revenge against Ford; however, once June is on the back of his bike, revenge is the furtherest thing on his mind. June won't let a little thing like a fued between long lost brothers get in the way of her pursuit of Lytton.

I really admired June's compassion toward her mother in that she went above and beyond to so that she could have the best care -- even as Ingrid still finds fault with her children. June's ability to set aside the memories of her childhood is amazing, it shows true character. I could feel her determination to be a better person to the woman who gave birth to her and essentially left her to raise herself. Even today, I could see glimpses of the little girl who was essentially abandoned when her father left.

I can feel Lytton's pain as if it was a wall I could reach out and touch. His has not forgotten the betrayal of being lying to about his parentage and he wears his disdain on his sleeve. His first reaction to any new situation is anger. You can see not having anyone to share his burdens is eating at his soul and leaving a hollow void in its wake.

I would have liked to see more interaction with Lytton and Kino Driving Hawk. I would also liked to have seen him confront, or even talk, with his mother when he discovers who his real father is. I know that's she's sick and in a care facility, but I still think that even if she couldn't provide answers, a son's (or daughter's) inclination would be to ask questions of his mother. June's closure with her mother was a good thing, even though it wasn't the loving reunion we would have wanted for her.

"Stay Vertical" was...well, it was OH SO GOOD!

I'm not usually an MC reader. There's just something about them that doesn't click with me, but this one (and "The Bare Bones", first in this series) really worked. I loved the characters...especially Lytton. Like another reader said, I wanted to hate him. He was callous to his "slaves" in the beginning. He cared nothing for their pleasure and tossed them aside as soon as he'd gotten his own. Along comes June, and I started to fall in love...just as Lytton did. He fell fast and hard, and suddenly, he was sweet, and even a bit romantic, at least to his June.

I'm not going to give away anymore of the plot. This book is NOT your Mama's old fashioned bodice rippers. This is hardcore. Life in the MC is not pretty, and a LOT of it isn't legal. You'll have to get past a lot before you discover the passion and love. You'll discover friendship and loyalty among brothers. You'll be immersed into a lifestyle that, while exciting, isn't glamorous (like some MC books make it out to be). However, you WILL be caught up in an extremely well written, smoothly transitioning story. You won't want to put it down. There is a lot of action and suspense as well as se. And let's talk about the sex for a minute. It is HOT! Scorching, really. Layla knows how to write a mind blowing sexual experience. Just so awesome!!

Do yourself a favor and pick up "Stay Vertical". You won't regret it. Trust me.

I was given this book for an honest review through Short and Sassy Book Blurbs. I really wanted to give this book 3 1/2 stars but it isn't possible on Goodreads format. I loved the characters June and Lytton. I thought Layla Wolfe made the characters very realistic. The chemistry between the two main characters was outstanding. I enjoyed reading about the conflict between Ford and Lytton, along with the resolution by the end of the story. I also liked the way both main characters were very well educated and were successful in their chosen fields. My main problem is the speed with which Lytton was willing to give up his way of life for June. He has always been a dominant and suddenly it changes, it was a little disappointing to me. The story line moved very quickly and the speed of it was just a little off-putting. I did enjoy the read, and like the way Layla Wolfe writes. I would still recommend this book to anyone that likes hot romance and MC stories.

great addition to the Bare Bones MC series! Tanner is a combat vet who now flies rescue dogs to their forever homes. He keeps a promise to Slushy, the Bare Bones MC lawyer, and brings a puppy to a lonely club member.
Unity is a rape victim, a spokesmodel for cannibis companies and best friend to Lavini Dock. Lavinia just married Tutti Morgan the fentanyl dealer who is selling some toxic fentanyl. Lavinia goes missing and Tutti and Tanner team up to look for her. Tutti and Tanner have some magnatism but Tanner takes it slow due to her past. Tanner spent 10years in prison when he took rap for his older brother on a rape charge. They thought since Tanner was a teen they would go easier on him but not his luck. He got involved with Puppies Behind Bars and then the Innocent Project helped him get out of bum rap after serving 10years. When Unity hears what he was in jail for, she freaks out. She doesnt want to desert her friend so she continues to work with Tanner but has put up walls. Tanner knows he will have to slowly chip away those walls.
There are some twists and possible triggers for others but I fell for Tanner and Unity . Love when two broke or lost souls find the other half that together they are whole.. another HEA!
Have thouroughly enjoyed this series and hope it has a few rides yet to come!

Pretty enjoyable book

As with book 1 this book steam rolled through its plot, and like book 1 also it lost something along the way.

Don't get me wrong, the story n characters are great, just told at such a pace the glaring jumps and holes are evident. Its just all too easy, too quick, too much with not enough character or plot development. Could be 5 stars if the author just spent more time on the book fleshing it out as opposed to it just feeling rushed.

I can’t believe this author used the term “half-breed” to describe a Native American. Jesus fuck, Joanna Lindsay called and said you need to go back to the 80’s. I just can’t believe it’s in a blurb from 2014. But having read other blurbs/reviews for this author’s books I am not surprised. She’s going on my fuck off shelf. I won’t read her.

This is a erotica, adult fiction, romance with abuse. This is the second book in the The Bare Bones MC series. This book picks up where the first book The Bare Bones leaves off, but there is enough details that you could read it as one book. This book is toned down from the first book but this is for adults only and definitely not the faint at heart, there is a lot of sexual content. This book brought out a lot of emotions for me, it is a book that you can not read quickly, you have to take your time and let it sink in, or at least that was how it was for me. I really admired how June put aside her pride and did what was right for her mom, as for Madison well she let me down, even though I understood her reasoning. My question is why was the third sibling excluded in these decisions, June's twin brother Bobby? I was not surprised to learn that Cropper had another son, but to find out it was Lytton was a good twist. Lytton made me so mad at times only to redeemed himself later, he is the man you love to hate. But Tobiah is my favorite! This story is about allowing your heart to lead you in the right direction and then letting yourself work out all the details later.

This story is has two main characters, the first one being June Shellmound. June never thought she would be back in Arizona. She joined the peace corp and traveled to Africa for a new beginning. Only to come back because she would not allow her mother to pass away alone, now she has to figure out all the details. June was off to ask her sister Madison for help with their mother but Madison simply said no. This is when June meets Lytton Driving Hawk the second main character in the story. Be still her beating heart.

Lytton Driving Hawk is a half breed whom has made his own way, a exceptional chemist, who owns a organic medical pot farm. He came across some information, that Cropper Illuminati was his biological father. He is determined to find out the truth and be allow to his share of his father's legacy and goes to see Ford Illuminati at the Bare Bones Bar, to hell with consequences. Was everything was for nothing, well almost except the sweet thing name June. She was going to be part of his future, he will figure all the details out later.

Lytton and Ford have words and they can not be taken back. Lytton is torn, vengeance has caused him to falter. He becomes involved with The Cutlasses, who so happen to be Ford's enemies. Plans are made, and actions are started. Then something happen that changes everything. What has Lytton done, can he correct this situation?

favorite passage:
"To be honest, she was pretty much a candidate for the next Mommy Dearest award."
"It was an adorable sight, really, the juxtaposition of the bad boy biker, his dusty bicep covered with ink, holding the hand of the toddler with the droopy drawers." <3
"And he grinned at me. That absolutely melted me."
"Every last cell in my 140 IQ was sucked right out of my brain and into my pussy."
"He sounded like Mickey Mouse by the time he cried, "We don't need to be fu**ing looking for trouble."
"He's just sucking up all my thoughts."
"He was the epitome of the purple nurple and swirlie recipient who played trumpet in the marching band."
"Toby's voice was as high as a cartoon chipmunk."
"There was definitely two or three senses at play simultaneously when my jaws did the Great White Shark around his skin flute."
"The two brothers stood glaring and huffing at each other, all pumped up like shapeshifters on steroids."
"Your parents make you what you are, but it's up to you to change it."

This is the 2nd book in The Bare Bones MC series. Our H is Lytton Driving Hawk, half brother of Ford Illuminati. Our h is June Shellmound, the sister to Madison and sister in law to Ford.

June has been volunteering for the Peace Corps until she is called back home because her mother is quite ill. While June's mother wasn't the best mother, she felt obligated to come home and take care of her. She is surprised to see how her sister Madison's life has turned out. She is married to the man June had a crush on, lives in a huge house, has a great job and a wonderful daughter. June is definitely feeling some jealousy but it is nothing close to what Lytton is feeling.

Lytton grew up on the reservation believing that his father was Kino Driving Hawk. That illusion was destroyed when the scholarship board at MIT brought to light that he is really a half-breed. At that point Lytton's girlfriend leaves because he is a half-breed and he becomes quite angry at the part of him that is white. Lytton excels at being a chemist and becomes the owner of an all organic medical marijuana farm. When Lytton gets information that his father is actually Cropper Illuminati, he decides to go demand his piece of the pie from Ford. There he meets rose tinted glasses wearing June. She is instantly attracted to him while also feeling pain for him. He is attracted to her also but has no problem using her to get back at Ford.

This book was better then the first, In my opinion. The plot twist kept me hooked. I really liked Lytton, after he got over his childish issues. Unfortunately like the first book, I didn't like the h. June had trouble with who to place her loyalty with and I didn't like her choices. I will be starting book 3 next.

Layla Wolfe is an amazing author who knows how to write a book! Stay Vertical is book two in The Bare Bones MC Series. If you loved Ford Illuminati then you are going to love his half-brother Lytton Driving Hawk.

Without looking back, June Shellmund joined the Peace Corps after graduating college. Lytton Driving Hawk grew up on an Indian Reservation and graduated with a PhD. He finds out by chance who is real father is and sets out to find him only to find out he is dead and meets his brother. Fate has now bought June and Lytton together.

Faux Paus, a member of the MC says " I see a lot of Ford in Lytton. They are both intense, powerful, mentally sharp men. It's a though if they focus the power of their mind into one sharp beam, it could cut like a knife. I see similarities that they probably don't even see because they're too close to it. I knew they were brothers before the DNA results even came back. They may have grown up separately, but their hearts are one, together. See how they chose two beautiful sisters." That said it all describing these two alpha men!!!! For me, it describes the book!

Sister June and Madison Shellmund are able to come circle and reconnect through their mothers death and falling in love with brothers. Lytton and Ford are able to start to build a friendship as brothers. Lytton, now finding a brother in Ford by blood, but also as brothers, as now Lytton is now a Prospect in the Bare Bones MC. The side story of the medical marijuana was extremely interesting as well!

Layla, what an awesome read!! I hope you plan on continuing this series. I received this as an advanced copy for an honest review..

I was a tiny bit worried about reading this one after The Bare Bones shocker...that book was so dirty, nasty and gritty that I wasn't sure what to expect about this sequel. But when a friend gifted it to me...it was a given...I had to dive in and be fearless! It was actually a really good story...way different from The BB...but it still had some elements of gruesome violence (against men and women)...and had some funny parts thrown in there (everything can't be dark and emotional).
When Madison's mother is dying from cancer, little sister June returns from her volunteer work in Africa to help care for her. She becomes involved with club business and Ford's long lost sibling Lytton, unwittingly becoming a pawn in his schemes of revenge and brotherly hatred.
This book was so different because it focused on the medical marijuana business (I learned WAY more about how to grow, nurture and sell that stuff by reading this book than from watching the entire series of Weeds), the BDSM world of Masters and slaves and the consequences of children left to grow up without real mothers and fathers to nurture and love them.
June was the perfect woman to force a change in the wild, sexually dominant, but yet science nerdy Lytton...she was peace and love and flower-power to the highest degree and I absolutely loved their relationship (more so than Ford and Madison's)...two very intelligent people caught in a world of criminals and evil-doers.
A really unique biker romance with a strong family vibe.

This was a dang good book 2 of The Bare Bones series. Lytton found out his father was Cooper Illuminati and he goes in search of his half brother Ford, when things dont turn out so well with Ford, when Lytton wanted to know what kind of man his father was and to get to know him better through the club but the secret wasnt said. Madison Shellmound's baby sister June, happen to be in Fords office when he shows up to confront is brother. June has a mission to bring the two brothers back together one way or the other. It didnt take until her life was in danger from the beat down from a messed up biker from the rivals of the Bare Bones, the Cutlasses until she got her mission accomplished, and Maddy told Lytton the real reason why Ford murdered their father, the rapist. There was a couple of places where I got a bit missed up but that never took away my focus from this story, still was a great story and we also got to see how well Ford and Maddie are including their 10 month old daughter. Parts of this are about Junes, Speed and Maddy's mother who got cancer and June came back from Africa to help take care of her with the help of her sister but never expected that a trip with Lytton to get weed for her mother turned out to be love for a man that is a bad ass biker/Doctor.

Now I see Knoxie will have his own book out and I cant wait to read his story.

Review Excerpt:

Stay Vertical starts right after Ford Illuminati and Madison Shellmound are reunited. In the aftermath of all the violence and trauma comes a new development - Ingrid Shellmound is dying of cancer. Of her three children, only one can look beyond all the hurt and abuse she caused and come back to care for her: June, and she has to fly in all the way from Africa to do so.

June looks at the world through rose-tinted glasses and would willingly care for all the strays she bumps into. With this kind of character, it's not a wonder she ends up in the Peace Corps setting up water systems in the desert. Life is beautiful, despite hardships in living accommodations and weakling boyfriends. For the life of her, she can't understand why her brother and sister have to hand the care of their mother over to her. Wouldn't it be easier for them since she's several continents away? But a good daughter she is and she comes home.

This read is not for the faint of heart. There is murder, mayham, drugs, sexual assault, BDSM but there is also romance, redemption and of course a HEA. This is book 2 of the series but can be read as a stand alone. I do however recommend reading book 1 before you read book 2.

Written as a mutli pov, (My favorite or course) we are brought up close and personal to June and Lytton. I loved how June brought out the caring, loving side of Lytton. Lytton had been selfish, thinking only of himself, while June has a heart of gold. Together they make an explosive combination.

I loved seeing the hints of Turk in both this book and book number 1 - leading up to the Bent Zealots series (which I read first actually and loved)

The characters were so entertaining and sucked me in, their dialogue was engaging and the descriptions to detail were done well and not boring.

All in all, a great read.

Nothing is ever easy with the Bare Bones MC, just as everything starts to settle down the past rears its ugly head. Laytton Driving Hawk just found out his father was the President of the Bare Bones MC and he is aching for a fight and his new brother Ford is just the one to take it out on. Madison's sister June gets caught in the middle and plays peacemaker to get the brothers on the same page putting herself in the cross hairs of a rival MC. Not quite as down and dirty as book 1 but still showing the dark sides of MC life. As with every family, misunderstanding and disagreements happen. Revenge is a dark and dangerous game to play and the MC's play hard , fast and deadly.
Family is not all about blood, its about the ties that bind you. Loyalty, respect, friendship and even love can be more binding and nothing makes you closer then protecting what is yours. Despite what the characters represent, I like them and enjoyed getting to know them better in book 2.

Wolfe gives a unique twist to the MC Romance. Bringing in new characters that broaden her world builds on the lifestyle and gives it a whole new flavor. I've never met characters like Lytton and June in an MC Romance before! It was refreshing and showed the diversity of the community.

Wolfe brought her A-Game with the complexity of alliances, runs and moves the men take. With nothing coming easy, the characters are tested and stay true to themselves as they find their path. This is no hearts-and-flowers romance but it will make readers smile and hope for the HEA. The grit in getting there makes it all the more sweeter in the end.

I liked book one in this series but book two has sold me. I'm a fan. I'll be watching for the next book!

I enjoyed this book. The main male Character, Lytton Dark Hawk is truly disposable in the beginning. I could not imagine that he could ever redeem him self. June Shellmound is smart, young and innocent compared to most women who hand around a motorcycle club. I enjoyed catching up with characters from the first book such as Speed, Turk, Ford and Maddy as well as the rest of the Bare Bones MC.

This book contains violence, but it does revolve around an outlaw motorcycle club so that should be expected. There are some steamy sex scenes as well. I enjoy the duel point of view in a story, I feel it gives me a better understanding of what is going on and why. This was a good read, I give it 4 stars and 3 hands down the pants.

Wow, June is very different than her sister, Madison, and her twin brother. I wanted to know more about June. She had a good heart. This was not what I normally read, but I was so curious about June and Lytton. Lytton found out the man who he thought was his father was not, but his dad is Cropper and he has a half brother, Ford.

How would that feel if your father that you thought as turned out not to be your dad, but someone else? He can not even talk to his dad now.

June was good for Lytton. I could not stop reading this book.

When I first started to read this book I did read the disclaimer. I encourage everyone to pay close attention to that disclaimer and if you don't think it's something you can handle stop right there. I continued on. The story started out and I felt sad for June and her dysfuntional childhood. The more than I got into the story the more the story evolved. This is one of those stories I really had to push all the way to the end hoping that I could handle the violence and drug usage. I enjoyed the author's style and humor the only thing that made this story lose stars with me was the content. The HEA was a nice ending I just wish it hadn't been so hard fought.

Great book! At first I was a bit apprehensive about Lytton and found him a bit too cocky and self absorbed but as the book went on and the story developed he really started to grow on me especially as he and June's relationship evolved. While Lytton was a self absorbed a-hole most of the time, you had June who was exactly the opposite seeing the good in people and putting others before herself and her own feelings, totally a case of opposites attract. This story had a pretty brutal abuse scene and had some pretty emotional moments. I especially liked the end and don't want to give any spoilers but Lytton eventually comes around and is humbled and realizes what family really is.
