Keeping it Up

Rate this book
Top Model Mark Antonious Richfield made the decision to sell the mansion, in Paradise, CA where he grew up as a young boy. His prim-proper English mother had remarried and moved on to live in London, and Mark’s homophobic abusive father, Milt Richfield was dead. In order to send off the estate with a defiant ‘bang!’ -literally- Mark invites all his good friends for a proper boy’s weekend. As your Action! Series favorites get together for a final fling, find out how they mix emotional closure with pure pleasure, and of course, Mark is the main course. But not before Mark is forced into shooting a controversial modeling session with his newest account, a luxury car company, which is setting LA gossip columns on fire.
With grueling pressure from the producers of Being Screwed, the hot vampire cable TV drama starring Mark’s superstar son, Alexander, to make their wedding a worldwide spectacle, Alex and LAPD Lieutenant Billy Sharpe who is twenty years older than Alex, finally find the time to take the leap to get married in New York. But the two men want a private affair, not a media frenzy.
See how memories of the day Mark left Sharon Tice at the altar for the love of his life, ex-LAPD cop Steve Miller, haunts Jack Larsen, Mark’s oldest and best friend. Find out how Jack copes with the ill will it begins to stir in him much to Jack’s husband Adam Lewis’ annoyance.
Keeping it Up. When it comes to Acting Naughty and Behaving Badly, the men of the Action! Series will manage to keep it up for a long time to ‘come’.

I loved Capital Games,it was the beginning of the Hauser created world. It had everything I expect in a romance novel. Lovable characters, conflict, angst, romance and enough sex to keep it hot. Most of Hauser’s other books have a similar recipe. But this one…?
What I liked…. There were interesting conflicts going on. I wish they would have been the center of the story and not bits and pieces in between the sex scenes. Bill and Alex-- a devoted couple, and in love, brought the only bit of romance and a feel of normalcy into the plot.
What I did not like…
Besides Bill and Alex, to me it feels as if the couples lost their connection. There is no real feel of partnership, love and intimacy left between them. It is all about sex…
There was so much of it, that I skipped most of it. It felt as if half of the book was just plain emotionless fu****g. I guess that will happen if you put to many players into a relationship. The whole story felt like a porn movie. Interesting at the beginning, but it becomes to much and you fast forward to see a bit of the end. I would give it only 2 stars, but I do adore the characters and the end was just beautiful.

Ok as a whole I would give the series a 3.5

There are many things I loved about this series and some things that urked me.

Let's start with the urking first.
1) Mark was so whiny and insecure it got on my nerves by the end. He was so much put together and stronger in Capital Games then his character just fell apart
2) There were a couple of timeline big oops! example: Throughout the series Danny was with Pete and Donny with Bruno then in this last book it kept saying that Donny was with Pete and Danny was with Bruno. I'm sure it was a mishap but for some reason it bothered me
3) In having it all book 10 it is about Jack wanting for Mark to top him but he had already been topped in the end of Something Sexy so I think that was a overlooked as well. SO it was hard to get into that books emotion since it had already happened.
4)Because there were so many sex scenes it got very repetitive

Ok...now for things that I loved.
1) At first Alex was so annoying but with the Help of Billy he grew into a loyal man. Their wedding vows brought tears to my eyes. Super beautiful
2) I liked that Adam, Jack, Mark and Steve found a place to be together and truly happy
3) I loved the whole world that G.A creates. After reading this series I want to read all of her books now.

All in all some of the books were better than others but I liked the series.

Loved the book but Alex has made his bed in the past and now the tables have turned. That kid seriously needs a dose of his own medicine ... He hasn't changed all that much and needs a rude awakening !! In this book I felt that little boy got everything he deserved the way he treated everyone else since he's come into this series. From groping everyone from Steve, Jack, and Billy and trying to make them do things they didn't want to because they knew it was wrong... Billy was just the weakest and that is not a turn on! It seems to me that Billy and Alex have more of a father/son relationship but with sex. He's always taking care of him and fighting his battles like a father would a child. I'm just waiting for it to be over.

A large part of this is the same review I've used for the last two Hauser books. This is my last for the Action Series. It was a nice reunion with so many of the guys from the other books. Billy & Alex get their mostly private wedding. I think I want to end believing these guys continue to love and work towards healthy relationships, within their current boundaries. I will take the mostly HFN and pretend they eventually find their HEA.

I'm always at a loss with Hauser's books, yet something keeps pulling me back into them. I enjoy than as a whole, but when I try to analyze them I have so many issues with things like the editing, the total and complete suspension of belief that is required for a none sci-fi / werewolf type of book, the lack of depth etc... So basically, there is something about the characters and world she creates I like, but I just can't tell you what it is; other than a very guilty pleasure. If you are new to this author, I highly suggest you read many reviews from both ends of the spectrum to get a feel.

This was book 12 in the Action series. If you clicked on the book because of the cover (totally understandable), you really want to go to Hauser's website first, because all her stories (or actually many, many of the stories) and characters are interwined...so much that she has a narrative on where to start (USE IT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT)
O' Yeah, Look at the trailer for "Capital Games" HOT DAMN, HAUSER IS FINALLY RELEASING A MOVIE. CAN'T WAIT!! HOT M/M SEX ON THE BIG SCREEN!

If you like self-aborbed egomaniacs as a main character and free-for-all sex parties where no couple seems to be faithful then you'll enjoy this series. I liked the first book in this series but everything after just seemed like one giant reason to feature Mark as a man-whore.
