Detective Nate Richards has to face his greatest trial in this brilliant sequel of the Nate Richards’ Mystery series. He is accused of raping a woman. Although Nate is innocent, Internal Affairs is convinced of his guilt and decisions about his fate seem to have been made already. Nate is suspended from work and the office. Collegues seem to have forgotten his existance, but Nate still has a friend in the office. Will this friend be able to help Nate uncover what really is going on?

And what about the women in Nate’s life? Does he really love Jackie or is he still in love with Amber? The outcome of this painful dilemma is well developed, even touching at times.

The story switches between the past and the present, slowly uncovering the unexpected truth.

Nate’s present struggle against the injustice done to him is brilliantly pictured. His faith and trust in God have grown, but when it comes to sharing his grieve with his loved ones, he still has some things to learn.

When I first picked up Insidious, I had no idea what to expect, but once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down again. In my case that means only one thing: “This book is definitely good!”.

As a writer, reading a book about a police detective written by a police detective is worth it's weight in gold. It's one thing to learn about police procedure and another to see it played out in fiction the way it happens in real life.

As a reader, the narrative questions (mostly, "what is going on?") leapfrogged over one another. Nate is plagued by two crazy women, a departmental inquiry that benches him and leaves him powerless except for prayer and navigating a love triangle. So I was turning pages just to try and figure it all out!

The only thing I didn't like was his Mom, who loved his ex girlfriend so much that it made her unsymapthetic because she didnt try and get to know the current girlfriend. But that was a side note.

Insidious follows detective Nate Richards and the other characters introduced in the "Nate Richards Mystery Series" through the process of an Internal Affairs Investigation within the police department where Nate works. This book is a slight departure from the previous two novels in the series, as it is more based around the emotions and drama of the situation. Ellis' previous books in the series (Notorious and Dead List) were more action and suspense. This subtle change is not to the stories detriment, but rather exposes the reader to the deep emotions of betrayal, abandonment, and political posturing. We also see Nate's Christian faith being tested through these trial, as he examines the situation, and how he reacts to it. The book is well written, and Ellis' has done a good job and expanding his characters, and introducing new characters who are believable and interesting. An enjoyable read.

Although the focus of Insidious (the third installment of the Nate Richards series) is different, it is certainly no less compelling! Again Ray Ellis writes in a way that captures the reader's interest and catapults them into the story at hand. With believable characters, I again find myself identifying with Nate as he struggles with a heavy duty trial in his life (the Internal Affairs investigation) and how that affects his faith. As the story unfolds, I find myself surprised at the different twists and turns, but each one drew me in even more. It was quite a surprise ending--never underestimate how the Lord works through events in our lives!

Ray Ellis has a way of putting you there on the scene and that is one reason I find his books so enjoyable to read. The subject of this is a bit hard to take for me being I have been around law enforcement people for years, but the subject is reality and internal affair investigations are an integrate part of law enforcement. This story is so very well written, but I have to say I am waiting for #4 to see where Nate will actually end up in his career. Super great book I recommend it highly.
