In the A Collaboration of Scientists series, famous scientists gain much more than knowledge, accolades, or notoriety from their discoveries — they gain power.
In this volatile universe, some of the world's most brilliant minds are disappearing under dark circumstances — either captured by the villainous Thomas Edison, or erased from history amidst freak accidents. Will anyone rise to challenge this dire state of affairs?
Well, this review is short because the story was short, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable! It was actually pretty cool. The premise I found fascinating, especially going at the “super power” deal from an actual scientific perspective. You can tell as soon as you get through the first “story” (there are five parts/stories/chapters, however you want to call them) that this is all set-up for more to come. (He says it in the description, too.)
But yeah, Trevino’s writing flows very smoothly and the broader premise (that you learn in the fifth part) is a very interesting one. The joke about the New England accent in the fourth story really made me giggle, and “Scientists, collaborate!” as a heroic cry is just awesome. It was too short for me to rave, but it’s a really solid start, I think, and I look forward to the next two. 4 stars.
This seemed more like the start of a much longer book than a whole story. The first four and a half chapters really only introduce us to this strange universe where scientists can gain the powers of their discoveries. The last half chapter gives the hint of a much larger conflict, setting the stage for a greater battle between good and evil, similar to a Marvel or DC universe, but with actual scientists with super powers. I would love to see this idea fleshed out and really expanded on. There is potential in the idea, even if this particular story was under developed. It felt more like a presentation of a rough idea rater than a fully realized concept. Hopefully with a bit more work we'll get to see this universe in its full, exciting glory.
