2nd book in the Sadie Cooper series. Now that she has solved Aunt Abby’s murder, Sadie has hung out her shingle as a PI. The clients are scarce until aong comes Ben White.
Enjoyable read though I got the drift of where the mystery would end about 1/3 of the way thru. Still the characters and dialogue kept me entertained to the end.

A charming read. Interesting characters who are well developed and fairly realistic. They have all the foibles and flaws of us everyday folks.

Worries about finances, talent and ability interfere and obstruct the investigation, but Sadie's stubborness sees her through to the end.

These are the reviews I hate to do . However I believe in being completely honest when reviewing books, no matter how much I like an author. Normally this Author is dead on , I loved the previous series and liked the first book in this series. Well lets get on with it then .
The good: I love Abby. She is full of sass and fiesty. I love Hal he is a great character . I really liked Mary.
The could have been better:
1. I didn’t get the whole mystery .There were too many empty holes and not enough action. I couldn’t figure out what, if anything was actually going on until the end of the book .
2.The main character of Sadie. She is self absorbed and kind of obnoxious in this book .I liked her better in the first book.
The bad:
1.Luke is whiny , self absorbed and …I don’t even have a good word here, so I going with annoying. I think we are supposed to be rooting for a romance between the two of them but I cant get on board with that he is just too whiny.
2.Gideon, complete dud.
The worst thing about this story was the “one liners“. I am usually a fan of the “one liner“,” the zinger” .However when that gimmick is overused the whole thing becomes silly. That’s what happened here. Way too much sarcasm and back and forth “Zingers“. There were scenes that were supposed to be funny but came off as cartoon like instead. I felt like I was reading Dr. Seuss. This story just didn’t work for me on several levels.

The client is the killer. He followed Sadie from Nebraska because she wouldn't send him a lock of her hair. Luke and Sadie are still not together, although they are both living in Abby's house.

#2 in the private investigator Sadie Cooper mystery series. She runs a struggling detective agency trying to support herself when she gets a paying case when a stranger asks her to help him determine whether he has killed someone in his sleep. As she investigates, people who are leads start dying while close friends mistrust the client who Sadie appears to becoming more and more attracted to.

There's a major subplot involving Sadie's past as she left the town and then returns with has her dealing with a lot of personal issues and inter relationship problems. She is also independent and doesn't like listening to people or being looked after. Much of this subplot is laid out in the first novel in the series.

Sadie, Luke, Abbey and Hal are all back in this story. Sadie and Abbey's private investigation company is struggling to get off the ground. Sadie accepts a client who claims he may have killed some one and pays Sadie to investigate. The story has twist and turns that keeps the reader turning the pages, even when you figure out who the killer is. You can't help but laugh at Gideon's accident and his big mouth spouting off.

Fast, fun mystery staring Sadie Cooper, Luke, Hal, Abbey and Gideon.
Sadie and Abbey have taken up sleuthing for a living. They move from finding an elderly man's pills to finding a out if a man with nightmare's of killing someone actually did the deed or is just dreaming. Well written and well edited. You are going to like it!

Vanessa Gray Bartal is one of my favorite authors. She writes an interesting mystery and her characters have humor. Sadie Cooper is one of these amazing inventions of the author's mind. Sadie is very intellegent but also very funny. I hope to read many more additions to this series.

Reading and enjoying. Maybe I've found someone new to read since Virginia Browns "Divas" can't get written fast enough for me. I like this father and daughter banter. Always have Mr. Twain to fall back on if I need to a good chuckle. Hope I won't need too.
