This was one confusing book, very poorly put together. Putting aside the questions of theology/demonology/soteriology/etc that inevitably arise, the book itself is just baffling, with a string of questions interwoven with what seems little rhyme or reason with stories of encounters with demons. The questions, too, are often repeated over and over again, with slight variations, so that the exorcist repeats himself several times over (and the book itself is not very long). The depictions of the demonic possessions and infestations and so on, too, often defy credulity--I believe in demons, but the way the exorcist makes it sound, there are quite a few Satanists running around with incredible powers that they can use to curse and even kill with voodoo dolls and the like. At one point, he talks about how he advises people that they should be careful if your mother-in-law has laid aside a special piece of pie for you because it might be cursed. Also bizarre, one chapter is untranslated--it remains in Italian except for the title. Another chapter, the question (from an interviewer) is in Italian, the answer in English. At the end of the book, perhaps strangest of all, if you read the last few pages there is a disclaimer that the book is entirely fiction, any resemblance to real people is coincidence--and yet Father Amorth is apparently a real person, and the book itself is listed as a memoir on Amazon. I checked the Wikipedia page of Father Amorth, and obviously some folks have been messing around with it--saying he was born in 1725, saying he tells people to go to the vet when they feel sick, that he is a member of the society of st. peanut butter. I have never seen so many idiotic edits on a Wikipedia page. But reading the book felt kind of like reading a badly edited webpage as well. I am pretty confused.

In the Catholic church, there is a huge mystique surrounding exorcism - a mystique which my 13 years of Catholic education did nothing to dispel. We were told that exorcism is a rite performed by priests on those who are possessed by the devil - end of story!
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of "Memoirs of an Exorcist: My Life Fighting Satan" from Open Road Media. It does much to fill in the gaps. The book addresses the reluctance of the current-day church hierarchy to discuss exorcisms and the devil. I learned that exorcism is not a single event, but rather a process that can take many years to complete. Of major concern, is the lack of a succession plan for today's exorcists.
I believe that evil exists. I believe in the power of prayer. I am a skeptic of the paranormal. I found this book to be informative and compelling.

Interesting but, I was a little confused that it was put out as a work of non fiction-a memoir- only to get to the last page and have the disclaimer that everything within is fiction.

Por momentos una interesante entrevista que lo rescatable son los conceptos relacionados con exorcismos y posesiones desde el punto de vista del padre Amorth. Lo demás son relatos, algunos inverosímiles pero otros muy buenos

Abgesehen davon, dass der Aufbau nicht optimal ist und ganze Sätze öfter wiederholt werden, ist es ein gutes Buch, dass Katholiken in Erinnerung rufen soll und kann, was sie glauben. Der Exorzismus ist leider ein zu wenig beachtetes Thema und bräuchte innerhalb der Kirche mehr Präsenz und Selbstverständlichkeit! Es sollte kein Tabu sein und Leute sofern sie einen wünschen, die Möglichkeit haben einen zu bekommen! Er trägt einfach so gute Früchte, dass es eine Schande ist, ihn dem Kirchenvolk so zu verwehren und unzugänglich zu machen.
Was mir komplett neu war? Materialisierungen (creepy!) und dass scheinbar Seelen, die isch im Limbus befinden beichten und daher umkehren können.
Anm.: Außerdem gehört der Satanismus verboten. Man denkt immer, dass es nur „lustig“ ist und „eh nicht funktioniert“, aber ganz ehrlich: wer sich nachts auf einen Friedhof stellt und Tierblut vermischt, sollte auch ganz grundsätzlich von der Gesellschaft als geisteskrank abgestempelt werden und nicht auf die Bevölkerung losgelassen werden.

muy interesante biografía sobre el exorcista más pop de la Iglesia católica. sirve para familiarizarse con términos y rituales más escondidos de esta religión. la forma de dividir y presentar la entrevista es efectiva en cuanto a lo dinámico que es, pero muy caótica en su distribución de información. por no hablar que al ser una entrevista, se queda a veces muy en la superficie con la información. sin embargo, lo recomiendo a personas curiosas e interesadas.

Me gusto mucho El formato de pequeñas historias conforme la persona hace preguntas.
Tb me gusto aprender cosas de Este Mundo, sin embargo no estoy de acuerdo con ciertas visiones/perspectivas que pueden llegar a ser chocantes.

I am very intrigued with this memoir. it provided such insight to the relative realities of an exorcist practice, and the numerous of "metaphorical" explanations of what an exorcism experience really is. The theological cases are very relative and insightful to the spiritual demand and responsibilities that would require great diligence in faith and its respected formidable practices and the discipline that requires a person to embody to keep a person safe.
With that said, my personal social service benefit of this book was the ability to solidify the rationales of what an exorcism is and how it affects the person, the exorcist, society, and faith. In addition this book provided me the solidification of what the spiritual relationships of the person whom received the exorcism, and where the "demon" goes, and why the exorcist must invest their "spirit" and their "faith" into the person whom their conducting the exorcism on, to ensure that the demon is removed and the exorcist's "spirit" takes its place to keep the person safe from the demon, and to ensure that the person is loyal to the "faith" and "communicated" with the exorcist to ensure proper "care" and religious responsibilities afterwards.
Basically the exorcism's spiritual surrender, and the exorcist's manifestation of their spirit into the person, to control the person is all the reality is. Whether it is to keep the person whom is obtaining the exorcism safe, or not. The spirit of the exorcist is completely embedded into the person, and the person's spirit is thrown into society and the faith, and archived into the exorcist's soul to account for the exorcism spiritual aftercare. Whatever that may be, depending on the exorcist.

Un libro de no ficción bastante curioso para adentrarte acerca del tema de posesiones demoníacas.
¿Para qué leer memorias de un exorcista?
1. Primariamente para inspirarte acerca de escenarios referentes a las posesiones demoníacas y ver los diferentes síntomas de una persona que tiene una posesión.
2. Te ayuda a esclarecer perfectamente como una persona puede caer en las manos de una posesión. Y los tipos y formas de posesiones.
3. Te da el sustento teológico acerca del rito de la posesión y te quita la venda de los ojos que no es una acción que dura un día. Sino que puede durar años de intervención.
4. Es una entrevista bastante lúdica y concisa con uno de los grandes exorcistas que te da detalles morbosos y espeluznantes.
Si quieres escribir o inspirar tu imaginación en este tema, hay muchas memorias que despertaran tu creatividad dentro del tema de la demonología como ficción.
Lo malo: En ocasiones hay circunstancias bastante absurdas o incoherentes que te ponen a pensar en verdad fueron ciertas. Y me falto que me explicara los pasos del rito.

Father Amorth's memoirs are fascinating to read. He has been doing exorcisms in person and on the phone through rituals and prayer. I learned about how the Catholic Church "sees" exorcisms. His book is written in an interview manner. The stories he tells us will make you think what causes one to be possessed. He is not happy with the fact that he doesn't have a successor.
It is a book that reminds one that there is truly evil in the world. It is all too easy in our world not to acknowledge that it does. The memoirs is an excellent book .

Não consigo ver o filme O Exorcista, mas meti-me a ler este livro. Resultado: pesadelos atrás de pesadelos. Mas eu adoro temas sobrenaturais e não consegui resistir. Acontece o mesmo no que diz respeito a filmes de terror, tapo os olhos com a mão e dou por mim a espreitar pelos dedos entreabertos, não consigo deixar de ver. Primeiro achei a leitura assustadora, dei por mim a dar uns quantos saltos no sofá. Depois foi ficando tudo cada vez mais estranho e comecei a duvidar seriamente da veracidade de alguns casos... Isso, juntamente com o facto de não concordar com muitas das ideias do Padre Gabriele Amorth fez com que o livro perdesse alguma da sua graça.

Personalmente me encantan las historias de exorcismos y no hay nada mejor que conocer el testimonio de un exorcista, en este caso una persona de renombre. No soy particularmente religiosa y entiendo que varios lectores no lo sean por lo que las menciones de plegarias y eso les parezca aburrido pero teniendo en cuenta el contexto, no molesta.

Testemunho interessante de um padre com experiência acumulada de exorcismo. Em linha com a doutrina da igreja. Fala abertamente do fenómeno deminíaco como pouco se houve falar dentro da igreja. Apesar de poder criar um pouco de ansiedade, a leitura é fácil e flúida.

Coming across this book I had hoped for some insight into the Churches position on demonic possession and exorcism. We’ve all by now seen the film THE EXORCIST or read the book of have heard about the actions taken by Ed and Lorraine Warren when doing battle with demons. So here we have a priest who’s supposed to have done numerous exorcisms. What would be his views on the topic, his stories of battle?
To be honest I never found the answer to those questions. The books is poorly written with long expanses of writing that provide no information or jump from one thing to the next in the same sentence. There is little structure to the book that would induce a reader to want to continue on from one page to the next. I found myself dozing off every time I began reading this book prompting me to wonder if perhaps the exorcisms performed here were such that the put the demons to sleep.
I’m a firm believer in God and I do believe that demons exist doing their best to do damage here on Earth. Understanding better how that happens and what to do to combat those things when they happen is a noble cause and I salute Father Amorth for the work he’s done. But the fact is a book is storytelling, in this case a true story. But the goal of a storyteller should be to draw the reader in, to involve them in the story and encourage them to want to move from point A to point B to point C and on. Here the telling of the story is such that you find yourself not the least bit compelled to move to point B let alone the rest of the alphabet.
I was left with the feeling that the intent of those behind the book was noble but that their execution of that goal was lacking. The book falls into the category of books that I began but never completed, a sure sign for me that the books had issues rather than me. It’s rare that it happens but when it does and when numerous attempts to carry on fail I know that the problem lies in the writing and not the reading.

Zasiądźcie wygodnie w fotelu i wsłuchajcie się w opowieści księdza Gabriele. Najsłynniejszego katolickiego egzorcysty, który pełnił swą posługę ponad 30 lat. Na chwilę przeniesiecie się do świata, tak bliskiego nam, a jednocześnie tak odległego.
Amorth opowiada swoje przeżycia ze spotkań z opętanymi. Fascynująco przedstawia sposoby wypędzania demonów, sytuacje gdy stawał w szranki z samym szatanem oraz pomagał dręczonym nieszczęśnikom. Wyłania się z tego obraz niełatwej posługi.
Oprócz wyznań egzorcysty znajdziemy tu świadectwa osób, które miały styczność z księdzem. Odpowiada na wiele ciekawych pytań. Kto może zostać egzorcystą? Jaki wpływ mogą mieć złe duchy na nasze życie? Uchyla rąbka tajemnicy na temat tego jaki stosunek do posługi egzorcysty ma Kościół?
Historie opowiedziane są jasnym i łatwym językiem, zrozumiałym dla każdego. Sytuacje tu opisywane choć nieraz przerażają, nie są tak spektakularne jak to się w filmach przedstawia. Ksiądz Gabriele sprawia wrażenie człowieka szczerego, wierzącego w to co robi, chętnego do pomocy cierpiącym.
Ta książka skłania do refleksji nad tym, w co wierzymy. Przedstawiony świat, z którym nie mamy do czynienia łatwo jest wsadzić między bajki, ale jednak trudno przejść obojętnie obok czyjchś przeżyć. Moim zdaniem tę książkę może przeczytać każdy bez względu na wiarę.
Temat ten mocno mnie zainteresował i nie ukrywam, że momentami mocno wczuwałam się w przedstawione tu historie imaginując sobie różne dziwne rzeczy. "Wspomnienia egzorcysty" zapewniły mi rozrywkę jakiej oczekiwałam, uświadomiły parę ciekawostek, o których nie miałam pojęcia. Polecam szczególnie tym, których fascynują takie tematy.

Mucho se ha hablado del Padre Amorth en podcasts de temática paranormal o espiritual, al punto de hacerlo referente sobre los exorcismos católicos.
Este libro, aunque interesante y sencillo, no cuenta con suficientes explicaciones para profundizar en el tema o tomarlo como una referencia para hacer ficción sobre terror católico.
Puede decirse que es algo anticlimático si consideramos que los 70 mil exorcismos que hizo Amorth, casi todos fueron muy cortos o hechos por teléfono tal como se lo comenta al entrevistador en varias ocasiones. Incluso por el final del libro, en una corta anécdota, explica por qué decidió que los exorcismos presenciales no duraran más de 30 minutos.
Es muy ligero de leer pero creo que algunas personas pueden considerar al Padre Amorth bastante cerrado sobre sus puntos de vista (lo cual es cierto pero eso lo hace un reflejo de los principios y tiempos en los cuales vivió).
Finalmente, tomen este libro más como un conjunto de anécdotas de la profesión, que una biografía de Gabriele Amorth. Si lo que buscan es la historia de su vida a detalle, definitivamente este no es el libro.

Faz jus ao nome
Sim, são realmente memórias e são de um exorcista. E, é meio que isso.
Primeiramente queria expressar meu desgosto em ter que ler um livro em Português de Portugal. Ô linguinha desgraçada.
O livro é bem chamativo por motivos óbvios, é um assunto potencialmente muito interessante mas fica que fica preso nesse livro bem do chatonildo. Os capítulos são curtos demais pra serem minimamente memoráveis e são bem repetitivos, com ele recontando algumas histórias várias vezes e sempre sendo bem genérico e rápido com relação ao que conta. Acaba que são 200 páginas que parecem 1000 de tão maçante que é.
Os ponto mais positivo do livro seria a maneira como as coisas são contadas com naturalidade pelo Padre, o que torna tudo muito mais acreditável, mesmo nos dias de hoje.
De resto sobra uma organização confusa e não linear de uma conversa, opiniões extremamente extremistas e capítulos chatos e extremamente similares.

Alguna vez han leído un libro de fantasía que parece real? No? Sí?
Pues está es una muestra de hasta donde puede llegar la mediocridad humana.
No sé si sea verdad o mentira o se este subestimando la realidad. Lo que creó es que la iglesia desde tiempos muy muy lejanos ha intentado manipular la verdad.
De que existe la maldad, creó firmemente que existe pero hay cuestiones muy dudables en este escrito.
Sabemos que la iglesia aún no se ha abierto a la vida moderna pero lo escrito aquí a veces es de tan dudables creencia que no se que pensar.
Respeto y me reservo el derecho de descreer todo pq se que lo imaginable puede ser real.

El libro es una entrevista al padre Gabriele Amorth hecha por Marco Tosatti. Al hacer el libro el entrevistador parece haber dejado la estructura de entrevista. Cada capítulo inicia con una pregunta del entrevistador o con un testimonio.
Para los que leen algo de esta tematica por primera vez, les puede sorprender; yo llevo oyendo cosas de este tipo hace tiempo así que más o menos no me ha descubierto nada nuevo. Aún y así ha sido ameno de leer. Lo bueno es que el capítulo más largo duro 4 o 5 páginas y el más corto una media página, asi que es fácil parar la lectura.

You know what? I get it, he’s a priest and they’re not exactly fans of the LGBTQ community but there was zero reason for him to be this horrible to it, he kept making these little uncalled for jabs. Like I’m sorry but there’s a line between being a gay person and a full blown demon-riddled Satanist and it’s not exactly fine. Just the fact that he was giving them the same treatment was too much for me to bear.
Plus, this book was just awfully put together. Completely nonsensical structure, tediously repetitive… Nothing good came out of this.

Un tema muy interesante y del que poco se habla o se escribe, leyendo los libros del Padre Amorth, se da cuenta uno de lo fascinante que es el tema de los demonio y las vejaciones o posesiones.
En este en especifico de repente falto como un mejor orden en el formato de la entrevista, o hay temas que necesitan ser mas aclarados.
Estoy leyendo también libros del Padre Fortea, un exorcista de España y se complementan unos con otros.

No lo sé, Rick. Parece falso.
Había "experiencias" que no podía creer o me costaba un poco creérmelas. Además que después de la mitad se torna repetitivo y aburrido.
Aunque menciona un libro de otro Padre que me sonó interesante, así que lo buscaré. Pero de este mismo autor, no creo.
Afortunadamente es corto, pero aún así me costó terminarlo en cierto punto.

Los primeros relatos son interesantes ya que están más detallados, unos capítulos después son muy ambiguos lo que genera muchas confusiones y también hace que en un capítulo se diga una cosa y en el siguiente se contradice. Pero aún así como me interesa todo este tema siempre me es satisfactorio leer todo tipo de experiencias de diferentes padres y analizar la perspectiva de todos.
