Totally Incorrect: Conversations with Doug Casey

Rate this book
The publication of Totally Incorrect by Doug Casey is an event. It is the first book in 15 years by this giant of investment and libertarian commentary. No one has been as brave and bold in anticipating trends and thinking apart from the civic conventions as Casey. His ideas are so "dangerous" that he has been singled out by left-wing "watchdog" groups as a threat to society itself. Why, he doesn't even believe in the Constitution!

You can agree or disagree with what he says. Doesn't matter. What matters is that he shocks the brain out of its stupor and fires up new thoughts and new ways of looking at the world.

Totally Incorrect is better than a book of prose. It is a book of interviews, topic by topic. This way, the reader is able to catch him in the most candid way possible. He has a way of formulating things that is absolutely unforgettable. This entire book of 350 pages does exactly this on every important topic of our time.

In Doug's book you'll

· The best way to rob a bank … and you don't need a gun;
· Whether you should seek the quality over quantity of life;
· What you can do with your money that is better than getting a $100,000 MBA;
· What things are so critical that government should never be trusted with them;
· Whether it is evil or moral to avoid taxes;
· Why pirates and smugglers are humanity's benefactors;
· Why war is great for governments but terrible for the rest of us;
· Why the jails are filling up with good guys and the bad guys are running the country;
· Why we were better off when fist fights would break out in Congress;
· Why you should consider getting out of the country ASAP;
· The best way to fight official corruption in government ( no officials, no corruption);
· Why America has embraced the "deadly combination" of "Nordic efficiency and American neopuritanism."

The book allows you to experience such thoughts in the context of a very civil conversation, so you can see how his mind works. It is brilliant, and it inspires brilliance. Someone like Casey comes along very rarely. He's been called the only viable contender for H.L. Mencken's legacy. Laissez Faire is extremely honored that he chose us as his publisher.

This guy makes you think. I mean, really think. He challenged my thoughts and opinions on a great many issues. Some things I agreed with, some I vehemently opposed. But the surprising discovery is, on quite a few issues, he actually made me reconsider my stand. Not necessarily change my mind, but at least enough to say, okay maybe I don't have all the facts yet. I don't know if he's really as successful an investor as he's made out to be; and I sought out this book originally to gain investment insights, but anyone who messes up my worldview to this degree deserves a place on my shelf.

An entertaining antidote to the "hinged" thinking that currently describes trillion dollar deficits, for the next decade, as "a balanced approach." Doug does not tolerate statist fools; he makes money off them: a perfect revenge.

Clear and consistent and honest thinking abounds here and is presented in a highly readable and thought-provoking manner.
It is nourishing to read a philosophy that has complete integrity, proffers no fraud, and relies on no force. It is a philosophy of voluntariness and rationality, which leads to wealth creation/poverty lessening.

What Doug Casey writes and thinks fits well into one key definer of truth--which is beauty. Truth is beautiful--symmetric--appealing--without cognitive dissonance.

This is not a book that will pander to you by telling you what you already believe. It is nothing like Rush Limbaugh or Rachel Maddow. In contrast, Doug Casey will prompt you to think more clearly by shining a very bright light on so many distortions of reality that we have let slide by.

Indeed Doug Casey is perhaps the brightest light shining, fighting to expose what is lying in those shadows.

Each chapter is a conversation with interviewer Louis James on a different subject. One chapter is on gun control, another on climate change. Doug is a Libertarian with some very interesting takes on these subjects, and many others. I like this book so much that I re-read chapters when I get time. He has a great short film (documentary)on his web page (http://www.caseyresearch.com/lg/meltd...) called Meltdown America.

There's a lot of good libertarian principles in this book, but for Christians you might find Mr Casey a bit antagonistic towards giving, charity, and Christianity in general. He endorses a wealthy lifestyle that is purely materialistic. If this book were balanced with a spiritual perspective or non materialistic dimension, it would be a 5 star.

Thought provoking book on the state of the world today. Brutalizes the left and right equally and does not pander to the reader.

Brutally honest book. Thank You. The USA is f$&@?ed - too many do gooders that are not actually doing anyone any good.

Loved reading this, even though I've been a newsletter subscriber for a couple years. I'm now motivated to read his earlier books, which I, oddly enough, didn't know about. I'm not gonna make any bones about wanting to be like this guy when I earn my gray hairs.

Almost all of Doug's logic make sense on each subject, but as a whole, I'not so convinced. Made me think he wants to go back to the age of western movie.
