I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Sadly I wish I could have given this book a better rating. As those who know me know I love a good menage book so when I received a copy of this I was pretty excited. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the likes of Nicole Edwards and maybe I was expecting too much from a novella.
I never really felt like I connected with the characters and I didn't feel like there was any true connection between them. The concept was good, girl gets dumped decides to become sexually liberated, girl goes out exploring. Ok, I can understand this.
**SPOILER**
Stacy goes out meets two guys takes one home with her after a little bump and grind on the dance floor at a night club. (Wasn't feeling the connection but ok, whatever). The next weekend she goes back to the club in search of the other guy (who is guy #1's friend) and takes him home. I'm all for sexual liberation but you've hardly spoken more than 5 sentences to either of these guys and you are taking them to your apartment. Now during both these sexual encounters very few words are spoken other than the usual groans and sexual mumbling but yet when each of these guys see Stacy again they state how much they have missed her, really?? or was it just the love of a quick one night stand? Because as I see it you don't even know her. Damn that must be one great vajayjay!!
Now fast forward and Stacy is dating both friends and they are both okay with this, well if they are okay with this who am I to argue so I'll move on. I'll skip the details of how the menage finally came about but I finally get to the menage scene and I'm thinking 'great here's the good part'....WTH, really that was my menage and I only got it once (yes, I am a menage book slut) it wasn't terribly written but once again I have to say I've been spoiled by Nicole Edwards and this was not my favorite menage, can't even say it was up there in the top five.
Circumstances and life choices come into play and Stacy decides it's time to move on from Justin and Evan (friend 1 and friend 2, sorry forgot to mention their names earlier) When they both show up to find out what is going on there was no argument no trying to convince her otherwise...just no fight at all!! But to me that is understandable because there was no true connection between them in my eyes so why fight for something?!?!
Was that ending a huge cliffhanger? Eh, I could have excepted that because in my head they all went about their lives. Will I read the next one? Probably, I'd like to see if they story can get better but I have until July 2014 before the release which is fine I'm in no rush.
Stacy Washington is your run of the mill prude, that has chosen to drop her prudish ways. Her ex Nick is the reason she's dropping her guard and is going to enjoy the single life.
Stacy and her best friend Nina head to a bar to start up Stacy's sexapades. Being that Stacy is known by everyone including her family as the innocent, and naive one, no one will ever believe what she doing except Nina. As Nina's talking it up with a guy after ordering drinks, the bartender and Stacy look each other over a little longer than normal. She's very interested so she asks his name in which he says it's Evan. She shares her name and he asks her what she's looking for tonight, when she says trouble. He tells her if she needs any help with that to holler at him. She feels warm all over and tells him she will, as a tattooed hunk of a man walks up to the bar next to her. They make make their acquaintances learning his name is Justin, he asks her to dance. After some very intense bumping and grinding on the dance floor they decide to head back to her place. Nina surprised and pleading with her to stay and not take home a stranger, Stacy blows her off to head home. Evan also asks if she's leaving and she said she'll see him again. After which Evan saying he hopes so but keeps his eye on her as Justin walks up and tells him she's his for the night. They reveal that they are best friends but before she could think about it, Justin pulls her away with his big strong hands fighting the crowd to leave.
Stacy is an account manager at Innovative Images, the largest full-service creative agency in the region. So needless to say she stays quite busy and deals with a lot of unhappy customers. Thankfully she's one of the cooler heads in the company that's mostly manned by women. Having her plate full was a daily thing for her but she sure looked forward to her nights off to enjoy her new found single life.
This is a short but super HOT book, that I give 4.5 stars. The story line leaves a few loose ends but I'm hoping that's why it's book 1. I loved the boys in this book because they are sexy, caring, passionate and insatiable just like the NEW Stacy.
So, don't get me wrong I am always a fan of a good menage but unfortunately this was not it. ;(
Stacy gets dumped from her boyfriend and decides to go scout some sexual fun with a one night stand (At this point it has potential)
Then she meets one boy - Evan the cute bartender but goes home with Justin who wait for it just happens to be Evan's best friend. What are the chances...
After her night with Justin he doesn't call and her sexual needs are awakened so she goes after Evan (who by the way also doesn't call)
and then BAM out of no where both Justin and Evan both missed her and want to hang out. WHAT!!!!! How did that happen?
So of course good idea date best friends.
When that is not good enough let's take it up a notch and have a threesome (this was probably the best part of the book)
Then life changes, the past comes back into the present, doubt creeps up, evasion happens and a new opportunity arises leaving us with you got it a....friggin' cliff hanger.
A two-lime rating says it all, right? I requested this book from NetGalley because it sounded ‘hot’ and I’d never read anything by Vristen Pierce before.
This being a novella, an erotic romance at that, I fully expected the female lead and at least one of the guys on the cover to hook up pretty quickly, so that was not an issue. What was? The lack of connection between the reader and the supposed instant chemistry between Stacy and guy #1, Justin, as they did the ‘bump and grind’ on the dance floor of a club where Justin’s friend, Evan, works as a bartender.
Stacy first connected with Evan but as he was working, ended up spending time with Justin before taking the plunge into the world of one-night stands.
I’m sorry but the dance floor scene did nothing for me. Even worse, neither did the first sexual encounter between Stacy and Justin, and later on, between Stacy and Evan.
Yeah, it was like a formula, with both men doing similar things which got Stacy aroused and climaxing, but which came across on the page as ‘meh’.
This was about 1/3 through the book and being loathe to not finish a book, I pushed through. Surprisingly, the dialogue scenes between Stacy, Justin, Evan and Nina were waay better than the first two sex scenes. Sad when you consider this is supposed to be an erotic novella, with some romance sprinkled in.
I will give credit to Ms Pierce though for doing a better job in the ménage à trois aka ”double penetration” scene.
My other problem with BETWEEN FRIENDS was the lack of description. We don’t get to ‘see’ the four lead characters, which is a pet peeve of mine. Ms Pierce gives us brief descriptions of the two men, but unless you looked at the cover, the reader has no idea what Stacy looks like. Much less her best friend, Nina.
One of about three times that you get a clue as to what Stacy looks like in general, or in a certain situation, is in chapter one via internal monologue. As she ‘bumps and grinds’ on Justin, Stacy notes that “I may not have been well-endowed in the chest department but, according to more than one ex, I had an impressive ass.”
**spolier**
This book is part of a series about the same characters, so it ends in a cliffhanger. That’s ok but I expected Justin and Evan to put up much more of a fight when they confront Stacy about her sudden withdrawal after their threesome.
She’s headed to Europe for work, and it’s an extended stay, so I thought the guys would have made some demands or at least asked some questions. Apart from an initial confrontation when Justin and Evan arrive at her apartment unexpectedly, there are no questions asked or demands made. No, the author simply has them walk out the door.
Stacy then recalls how “bold…and assertive” she’d been with them in the bedroom (and outdoors) and uses that as inspiration for becoming bold in her work life too. The new professional side of Stacy will likely be the focus on book 2. It’s left up to our imagination whether or not the European trip will involve new hookups and/or a reconnection with Justin and Evan.
If book 2 is available on NetGalley, I might just request it, to see if the writing improves.
Blurb: READY FOR TROUBLE...Stacy Washington needs a change. After being unceremoniously dumped by her long-time boyfriend, she's on her way to one of the hottest clubs in town-and ready to shed her good-girl persona. Good-bye, inhibitions; hello, sexy bartender . ...Behind the counter, Evan is a sight to behold: dark, good looks, and a killer smile. This could be a tricky situation-or the most exhilarating experience of Stacy's life . . .
Thoughts: There were a few issues I had when it came to this book, and I'm just going to touch on a few of them here. Stacy is a woman who has been hurt in a relationship, and she's decided she needs to be a little more liberated. Which is all well and good, but she takes it a bit to the extreme. While she does meet both men in the same night, and is attracted to both of them. However, she takes only one of them home with her. She then comes back a week later with the intent of hooking up with the second guy. All this one-on-one action occurs before any menege scene, and made the idea of them all three together a bit unbelievable. Made even worse by the fact that she had never even had a one night stand before. Yet now she is comfortable flipping back and forth between the two men like changing her socks. Before we ever got to any menage action, I was already a bit turned off from the book.
Another factor is the length. This is becoming more and more of an issue with me, since I see numerous authors put out 'novellas' - when really the short length does not do justice to the book. If you can do it within the scope of that length and not make it seem crammed together, rushed, and missing half the story...that's fine. However, this one has joined a long line of others for me - ones that make me feel a little cheated.
And then we have the ending! Talk about non-realistic! I don't want to give too much away, so I'm not going to give too many details, but there is a surprise cliffhanger that you should be prepared to get a little upset about. Overall, there were a lot of issues that just tweaked me the wrong way, the characters could have been a bit more developed and realistic, and the short length just didn't help the cause any.
Stacy has just been dumped by her long term boyfriend and had her heart broken so she's sworn off of relationships, that doesn't mean she can't have a little fun though so she sets out to find herself a one night stand. She is attracted to the cute bartender Evan but ends up taking his best friend Justin home with her. They have a great night but don't exchange contact details and a week later she still can't get Evan out of her head. She goes back to the bar hoping to find him but would it be weird to take him to bed when he knows she slept with his best friend?
I enjoy reading a good ménage story to make a change sometimes so I was looking forward to reading Between Friends. It's a fairly short novella so I was expecting a hot read with very little in the way of relationship development and I guess that's exactly what I got but even so I have to admit it was missing something. I had a hard time connecting to Stacy, at the start she comes across as a fairly liberated woman who wants to take control of her life and enjoy herself which is great but I had trouble believing her actions. She didn't take a second to think about her safety when she takes a complete stranger back to her home after a five minute conversation and she does the exact same thing the following week with a guy she's had 2 short conversations with. I know it's a novella and things have to move fast but it just didn't feel realistic and that bothered me.
Her first encounter with Evan was pretty much an exact repeat of the one she had with Justin, the positions varied slightly but not enough to make things interesting to read about, the sex scenes felt very formulaic and I was bored when reading them. She then proceeds to go back and forth between the two guys, there is no secret in the fact that she is seeing them both which was good but there was also no mention of the three of them spending any time together until the day they decide to have a threesome. It seemed to come out of nowhere and if I'm honest the scene wasn't particularly well written either. It wasn't horrific but it definitely wasn't a turn on.
To top it all off you have a cliffhanger ending that I'm guessing is supposed to encourage you to read the sequel when it releases next year. Unfortunately in this case it had the opposite effect. I don't care about any of the characters, I didn't believe the feelings they had for each other and I'm not interested in seeing how things turn out for them so I won't be carrying on with the series. It's disappointing but there are a lot of really good ménage stories out there so I don't need to waste my time on mediocre ones.
Between Friends by Vristen Pierce was a short and sexy read. While this one did have some menage, most of the book did not. This story starts with Stacy being dumped by her longtime boyfriend. She decides to lower her inhibitions and shed her current persona as a good girl. When she goes to a bar with her best friend, she ends up meeting two hot guys that she is interested in. Evan is a sexy bartender, and Justin is his hot friend. She ends up going home the first night with Justin, but returns the next weekend to the same bar and goes home with Evan. She starts seeing both of them separately, and while not exactly dating they do end up doing more besides just sex. As things progress she starts hanging out with both of them at the same time. Eventually her friend puts the idea of a menage in her head and she ends up with both of them at the same time. But with no commitments to either one of them, and the way things have turned out, will she end up with one, both or will they all end up going their separate ways?
I really liked both Justin and Evan. They were both super sexy, and fun guys. They were laid back and both of them were great with Stacy. They didn't get jealous or start to fight, and they knew everything going in. I liked that everyone was aware of the situation and that there wasn't a bunch of drama involved. Stacy was easy to like, and it was fun to watch her shed her inhibitions and really show her sexy side. She really made a huge transformation from the start of the story to the end, which surprised me given the length of this one. She had a lot of chemistry with both Justin and Evan, and they were absolutely explosive as a threesome! The sex scenes were all super hot, and there were plenty of them.
That being said though, there was a bit of side story with Stacy's work but otherwise this book was pretty much one sex scene after another. If you are looking for a super deep connection forming between the characters, then you might not want to read this one. But there were feelings starting to be developed between the three of them, and you could tell that it was more than just sex. I thought that everything was real and believable, and was handled really well in the short length of this story. I am interested to see where Vristen takes these characters next, especially after the ending of this one! I would recommend this story if you are looking for a short and sexy read, with hot heroes and some menage. This one is worth the read for the steamy scenes alone.
I'm always up for a good ménage story so when I came across Between Friends via Netgalley, I requested it. This is a novella so it's a fairly quick read.
This story surrounds the main heroine, Stacy. She was dumped by her long-time boyfriend and so she decides to live a little and shed her inhibitions. Relationships with emotions involved are trouble and so she decides to indulge in one-night stands and no-strings-attached sex. While at nightclub Brazen, she spots the sexy bartender, Evan and is intrigued by his good looks. She also catches the eyes of Justin and is equally attracted to him. She plans to have her way with both of them until she discovers that they're best friends. Soon her plan for casual sex is not going as smoothly when she finds herself falling for not one, but both of the men.
I'll have to say this erotic novella was pretty hot. The sex scenes carried steam and heat behind them and were fairly well written. As for the characters, I didn't find them appealing especially the heroine, Stacy. She was just a walking hot mess in my opinion. I didn't care for her or sympathize with her at all. She was pretty much messing around and dating Justin and Evan at the same time. It just rubbed off of me the wrong way. As for the main heroes, Justin and Evan, they didn't have any depth to them. They were not too far off from cardboard cut outs. Nothing stood out to me about their characters. The emotional connection was also lacking between Justin, Evan and Stacy.
Not only did I have issues with the characters, but the unexpected cliffhanger ending. I'm not sure if this story is part of a serial or series, but I don't think I'm interested enough to find out what's going to happen between this trio. Furthermore, the secondary storyline regarding Stacy's job felt like an empty filler. I didn't care for it and as a result I skipped through those scenes.
I enjoy reading ménage stories if they're executed well. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this ménage read as much as I'd hoped. With an unlikeable heroine, dull heroes and an undeveloped plot I found myself unsatisfied and bored. Simply put, Between Friends just wasn't for me.

After being unceremoniously dumped by her long-time boyfriend, Stacy Washington hits one of the hottest clubs in town with her best friend, Nina. Stacy decides it's time to shed her good girl persona by letting go of her inhibitions. Relationships are trouble; casual sex is simple.
When she sees sexy bartender, Evan, she's instantly intrigued by his dark, good looks and his killer smile. Before she has a chance to get to know him better, an equally sexy prospect comes her way and this one is ready to play. Justin's not shy about telling Stacy exactly what he wants. She decides to take the plunge by coming between friends--in more ways than one.
Review:
First, I hope this is more than a stand alone because we were left hanging with that ending. If it is a stand alone it is a very crazy ending.
The story took some leaps of faith in the believability department, but I enjoyed the story. The way Stacy seems to just use the guys was a bit off putting. In a menage you see variations of partnerships; Stacy seems a little fickle and only caring about her needs and wants. I really wanted to love Evan and Justin, they are so understanding, handsome and sexy, but they seem to let Stacy call the shots. I don't think the novella format is right for this kind of story it all seems rushed and incomplete.
I enjoyed the story even with its short comings and hope that if this is a serial the next one will be better.
Stacey has made the choice to spice up her sex life and by doing so she finds the new Stacey. One who is open to anything. When she starts a purely sexual relationship with two incredibly sexy and incredibly different men she puts them all into a difficult situation. I really enjoyed this storyline, but at times I did feel as if there was too much filler between her sexcapades with Justin and Evan. And by filler I mean her job. I just felt like it didn't fit very well into the story. Though it did help give me a sense of time passing. Which is usually hard to pull of in such a short amount of pages.
Now, of course I was a huge fan of sexploration. I'm all for exploring new things, and I really enjoyed reading and seeing Stacey's character develop through her new found sex life. Both of these strong men brought Stacey and the reader to the edge and back and really proved their worth. And I personally love them both! I could never choose just 1...
Overall Between Friends was a great erotic romance, but I just felt like the ending was rushed and that Stacey was just running away from her feelings instead of opening herself up to these two men in her life. At the point in time I can't say wether or not I'm compelled to read book 2. If I do it will be to see more of Justin and Evan, cause let's be honest they stole the show here. Whew!
I was granted access to an E-ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Maybe I was expecting too much going into this. I think the idea behind it is a good one, but the follow through was maybe lacking a little bit.
First, I have a hard time with a woman who is just beginning to find her sexual liberation taking a stranger home. And then taking his best friend home a week or so later. And these 2 encounters have been the extent of her sexual liberation journey.
Add to that, the fact that she took TOTAL strangers to her house. Ugh! beside the point anyhow, they aren't serial killers.
And then she had sex with one of them in a an alley and then the other in a parking lot. She's supposed to be sexually liberated not a slut. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with alley/parking lot sex, it just seems far-fetched for this woman (who doesn't understand double penetration) to go from prude to slut in like 2 minutes flat.
Ok, enough about that. The other aspects of the story I was fine with and actually enjoyed. The banter back and forth between some of the characters was funny.
But the ending? No one was left happy. I was left un-fulfilled. Maybe the next book sets everything right?
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
After my last book I needed something light and fluffy. Wow, this book gave me that as well as sexy and steamy. It was exactly what I needed.
Staci is making some changes in her life, including different sexual encounters. Evan and Justin are the best friends she meets one night at the club. She goes home with Justin one night and Evan another. Before she knows what's happening she is falling for both of them. Can these two men give her what she wants or should she leave them in the dust as she flees the country for work.
Holy...wow...no words. I definitely need another book by this one and will definitely be adding the second book of the series to my To Review list on my Kindle. I will also be looking for more books by this author as I don't think two is going to cut it. HOT, HOT, HOT!!
The story, characters, everything was flawless in my mind. Sure the events in this book aren't something that would happen everyday (no matter how many times we wish they would) but for me that is what makes it such a good book. I couldn't stop reading and I can't wait to continue the series. This is definitely a must read if you need something light, sexy, steamy and HOT all rolled into one!
This erotic little goodie needs a warning label – watch out cliff{hanger} ahead. Stacy has decided that she is going to toss aside her inhibitions and enjoy her new single status. With the help of two friends, Justin and Evan, Stacy discovers that no-strings attached can be VERY satisfying.
Author Vristen Pierce writing style depicts sensual scenes that left this reader yearning for more. However, I felt that the secondary storyline about her job detracts from the overall story; it felt like empty filler. I felt that a scene(s) was missing near the end of the novella. When Stacy is telling Nina about her man drama, and she mentions that Justin and Evan have been hanging out together at her apartment – it felt that this came out of nowhere. Never once was it mention that they were hanging as a group.
Disclosure: This ebook was provided to me free of charge for the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments, and ratings are my own.
After Stacy Washington’s boyfriend dumps her for being too boring she decides it’s time to become a bit wild. Picking up strange men and having one-night stands qualifies as sufficiently wild in her good girl eyes, so that’s her plan. And she’s determined to make sure her plan succeeds.
This is a decently written story, but there’s not much too it besides wild sex with two different guys. Stacy’s job is thrown into the mix in an attempt to beef up the story, but it’s mostly about the sex Stacy has with Justin and then with Evan and then with them both. Nothing wrong with that. The sex scenes are plenty hot and steamy. My problem came at the end of the story. Stacy turns into a total and complete twat. I was high fiving her up until the end. Talk about a douchebag. I can’t stand her now and I have no intention of reading any more of her story. She can eat shit and die. The end.
This is a 1st for me, I'm going to give a review that's on the negative side. I really didn't want to, but I feel this must be said. This book started with great potential, and was shot to hell at the end.
The story is about a woman wanting to step out of her comfort zone and live more. Stop playing it so safe. Stacy does just that when she meets Evan and Justin. By the end of the book she backtracks in a major (cowardly) way.
The pros for this story are Evan and Justin, both are great characters. As well as Stacy's BFF Nina. Another is the steamy factor of the book, which I would give an 8 out of 10 on my Steamy Scale.
I would only recommend reading this book because of the pros I mentioned, and the fact that this is a part of a series. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 2nd installment us much better.

I'm an avid ménage fan, but this one just fell a little short. Stacy decides it's time to let loose. After a failed relationship her best friend drags her out to try something new, sex without connections. Shortly after arriving she starts flirting with gorgeous bartender Evan only to go home with coincidentally his best friend Justin. Neither of these men act very redeeming even though the sex is hot. Finally they both seemingly come to their sense and start up something, coming back hoping for Stacy's forgiveness and attention, and have no problem sharing. Then poof! it just ended, leaving the reader unsatisfied and wondering what just happened. This one ended up just being an ok book for me.
Stacey tries to have her way with two best friends. Best friends who are so similar they're moves, in the bedroom, in an alley, are exactly the same. I only new the heroine was black because of the cover. She's not described until over 25% of the way in. Her white friend sounded ghetto where Stacey sounded refined. I also wasn't clear that the two love interests were white males (aside from the cover) until Stacey gets caught after 75% watching a DP internet porno with a black woman and two white males. Then you can guess the turn the story takes. But the acrobatics/choreography were very confusing to read.
I appreciated the character of color and the nontraditional attempt at a love story, but it didn't work for me.

I do not think the novella format worked well for Between Friends for Vristen Pierce. The story felt choppy and unfinished. I felt like a few scenes were missing that should connect the beginning to the ending of the story. I would consider this more of an outline than an actual story. Also I wouldn't label this as an erotic romance. There is no romance to the story, it ends before even a beginning of one can develop.
This is an erotic novella that left me wanting more. The novella format is difficult. The ability to craft both story and character sometimes suffers. Ms. Pierce succeeded in creating engaging characters. She also writes truly passionate,m sensual erotic scenes. The pacing felt hurried, but that may be due to the format. This is the first I've read from Ms. Pierce, but I would be eager to read her work Gin. If this novella is a jumping off point for a series (spoiler - cliff-hanger)she has me hooked. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
Ok this is a hot little piece but cuts off so sharply we are left standing....looking around...and asking wtf! Short novella with m/f/m roles but the story ends abrupt without a real ending. Would I read more by this author....YES! Would I recommend to others...not yet. This author needs to show they can really present a good read... But this was good but novella length. I need more to sink my teeth into....
A fast, fun, sexy read. It was the perfect blend of erotica with reality blended in. Sure the odds of two ridiculously hot men, with huge penises, who happen to be just opposite enough to totally fulfill the needs a woman, and be willing to share her are low, ok impossible. But the bumps and bruises along the way are what would happen in real life. I wish it was a full novel instead, and the cliff hanger at the end was frustrating, but I will definitely be reading the next in this series.
Ugh. This was not at all what I was expecting. When you find out it's a ménage book you'd think there be some hot ménage scenes. Sadly, there was only 1 that came at the end of the book and it wasn't even that good. Actually it was pretty awful. This book was more about how this girl falls in love with 2 guys that happen to be best friends so she 'dates' both of them. It did end with a small cliffie but, this book wasn't good enough to continue with whatever's next.
To say that I did not want this book to end the way it did, would be an inderstatment! I completely fell in love with this book and the way Vristen Pierce developed these characters. This book was completely sexy and filled with many fantasies that would make most women blush! I cant wait to see what is next!
I very rarely rate below a three star but this book was a miss for me. I thought it had great potential but it fell short for me. I thought it felt unrealistic and I couldnt relate. I know it was a story and its fiction but I like to connect with my stories...with the characters and I just couldnt.
I wanted to like this one but something felt off for me. No romance, it´s all hook-ups and 1 night stands, and all the time Stacy´s best friend, who´s no stranger to hook-ups, is acting like Stacy´s a harlot or something. Sorry, but it didn´t work for me. DNF at 41%
This is a short erotic novel. Stacy has suffered a break up with a long-term boyfriend and is headed to the local hotspot to cut loose and shake her good girl image.
Um, yeah no. Not my kind of story. Thought I could enjoy it but, I guess I want more story than a girl just getting her kicks and then jetting off to a new life.
