I am falling in love with this series. Aquiring Trouble has some naughty bad girl vibe. It has sexy times and sassy times. Morgan is my favorite girl. She kicks ass.
Miles is more subdue hero. He is the perfect match for Morgan. Aquiring Trouble is a second chance romance. Miss Brooks so far gives us a sexy, sassy, kick ass heroines. And a heros who is not afraid of strong women.
This made me sad/mad because I didn't know how much I liked this little town until my opinion changed in this book.
When I first started Bluegrass State of Mind I thought I would hate how gossipy and close the town was but by the end of the book, and in all the books after, it was less invasive and more comforting how the town was always there like a huge involved family. But then there was THIS book.
I love Morgan from the very beginning to the end and once Miles was grown up I liked him a lot too. (That's the only reason I rounded up to 3 stars) But the town and especially Paige (who I loved before) were horrible. I wish Morgan would of went around and popped all their tires and keyed their cars before the end of the book but of course she just wanted their acceptance.
I at least would of expected the wise old ladies if the town to recognize her adolescent behavior as a cry for help. But they just added to her neglect and torment when she was young and in need of acceptance not scorn, so they can't exactly be referred to as the "fairy godmothers" anymore. I hated all of Paige's parts, especially because in her book she was shown as an outcast from her peers in the town. So why is she such a bitch in this book? She's way too worried about her brothers whittle high school heart even after he tells her to get over it! Not to mention the high school cheerleader chick is married elsewhere now.
But I think the biggest annoyance was the end. Because all she wanted was acceptance her whole life she chooses to forgive and forget which is fine, I guess. But the town isn't repentant enough for me after they get her back story. They just act like their acceptance will forgive all. Like it's just so big of them to accept her into their judgmental group. It erased my positive view of the whole town. Hopefully I can get over it in the next book. If not I can always just skip to Ahmed's book and call it done.
As much as I love erotic romance, I also love sweet romance with hot overtones and Kathleen Brooks has a real knack for writing books like this. Between her original Bluegrass series and this one, she’s provided us with couples who thrive despite some great odds and she also manages to bring to the forefront some real life issues that adds realism to her books. One thing is for sure, even after six books I am still enthralled with the town of Keeneston, Kentucky and it’s kooky but lovable residents.
This book begins with a prologue, one that I’m extremely thankful for because it allows us to see the incident that changed the direction of both the hero and heroine’s lives. Throughout the book we are treated to flashbacks of both of these characters as well. I’m not a big fan of flashbacks in books, movies, or television shows but I will say these were absolutely necessary in letting us see where these characters have come from and how these incidents shaped them into the people they are today. I will warn you that most of these are not happy flashbacks, and Miles’ are of a mission he feels went terribly wrong.
Miles Davis is a dedicated brother, son, and now uncle. He’s also dedicated to the group of farmer’s he represents at his company Family Farms. He has an innate sense of right and wrong and for as long as anyone can remember he’s always been a champion of the underdog.
Morgan Hamilton left Keeneston right after her high school graduation. Known for being a trouble maker and an outcast she hasn’t returned for 17 years. However, she’s been given the opportunity to help launch a takeover of a company and she’s excited about the possibilities until she finds it’s owned by the boy she had a high school crush on. She soon finds out that time and distance hasn’t made a difference in her feelings and that spells trouble.
I’ll admit from the minute Morgan set foot back in Keeneston I wasn’t sure how I felt about her character and it had nothing to do with the way she left town. She just seemed bitchy to me and while I can sympathize with the way she was treated as a young girl, at some point you have to let it go and it’s obvious she’s never done that. That being said, I could also identify with her because she was different and when you don’t conform as a teenager, people treat you badly. I was shocked to find out her sister was the perfect Pam Gilbert…talk about a surreal moment! Morgan grew on me though and I have to admire her strength and convictions. I admire her for not holding back on her feeling for Miles despite them working for opposite sides, she owned up to her feelings even though it was hard for her to do.
Miles is one complicated man and boy does he have some serious issues he needs to work through. I admire him for what he’s done but I want to slap him for being so stubborn about getting the help he needs. When Morgan reappears at first he’s somewhat hostile which is to be expected, but I like that he gives her the chance to tell her side of things and he listens. He doesn’t judge and he admits fully that the one moment they shared back in high school affected him way more than he wanted it to. The fact that he decides he wants to date her despite their shared history and the fact that she’s after his company proves that his feelings for her run deep.
I enjoyed watching these two navigate through the relationship obstacles especially with the nosey town’s residents and Miles’ family keeping tabs and taking bets. While I could understand Miles questioning Morgan’s involvement in some incidents around town, the fact that he didn’t trust her was evident. I personally am not sure that’s the best way to start a relationship. I do like that Morgan didn’t allow Miles or anyone else push her around, she stood her ground and stood up for herself. When a threat to their safety became very real, so do their feelings for one another.
Acquiring Trouble is a great addition to the Bluegrass Brothers series with an emotionally wounded hero, the town’s former bad girl trying to make good, nosey and crazy townsfolk, caring but intrusive relatives, and a corporation up to no good makes for one interesting and exciting story. What’s not to love?
Acquiring Trouble is the third book in the Bluegrass Brothers series (Bluegrass Book #7) by Kathleen Brooks. ‘Bluegrass’ combines romance and suspense, with a touch of Southern charm. A few years ago a friend recommended this author, and her many series, to me - as she had devoured every book and absolutely loved them, singing the author’s praises from high from the hilltops. So, being an avid reader who loves discovering new authors and enticing reads, I took my friends recommendations seriously, and started amassing Ms. Brooks many books, with the plan to have a huge binge session/buddy read with my friend. But with so many books on my TBR, and new, exciting ones releasing every week, I always seemed to get pulled into other books- as these just kept piling up. Since part of my yearly reading challenges for the past few years has been to dust off my TBR pile/s and read the books that have been languishing there the longest, I decided to finally dive in and get the series read. While I did ‘enjoy’ the books for the most part- I didn’t fall madly in love with them as my friend promised that I would. But that’s ok, I am really happy that she loves them as much as she does. But for me, they were just an ‘okay’ read. With plenty of small-town drama, intrigue, angst, chemistry, humour, community, family, friendship, charm, mystery, tension, danger, emotion, and suspense- the stories are about finding love unexpectedly and love conquering all. The books can all be read as standalones if you wanted, without feeling ‘lost’ or like you are missing big pieces of the picture. This is because each instalment introduces its own ‘couple’- providing plenty of romance, a dash of suspense, and some sweet development to make your heart flutter. But I have to be honest, I found there were a few issues which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the stories/series. Such as the ‘wordiness’ which really slowed the flow of the storyline at times, as there was such an overwhelming amount of detail which didn’t really ‘add’ to or propel the story in any way, except to perhaps distract from the plot. I love details, normally- but not when there are pages of descriptions, as things tend to ‘bog’ down and the flow/pace/plot gets lost amongst the detritus- and also leads to some ‘wandering’ storylines. There were also many loose ends, for me- threads that were left hanging, or not fully woven into the storyline- which I found a bit frustrating. I really wanted to love this series as much as my friend did…. but instead, I was left a little disappointed. Happy reading! 📚💙
Another good edition to the series, love the way this author writes her characters with humor and heart. These are romantic with suspense and a bit of a thriller feel. Miles Davies the oldest brother is home working hard on building a farming co-op to help local farms survive and get better pricing. When a face from the past comes back to town and shakes up everyone's memories. Morgan Hamilton has always been shunned as the bad girl and left town on graduation day and has been gone for 17 yrs, everyone figured she'd be in jail by now. She is a successful businesswoman, a good person and was totally vilified by the town as a teen.
Now Miles has to deal with her as her boss wants to buy his business. As they get reacquainted their attraction grows despite neither wanting it, some things are meant to be. As we learn Morgan's sad past we find out why she acted out and why she left. The current situation turns into a mystery thriller with danger and lots of twists at the end.
Wow, the towns reaction to Morgan had me questioning if I liked them all as much as I thought because I adored Morgan and my heart hurt for her as a teenager. Annie was a rockstar for how she welcomed her and stood up for her. Over the story the town came around and I loved how Marshall knew the truth just because smiles said she passed the test. Miles’ military story was heartbreaking and I am glad that Cade couldn’t remember and that Miles was able to finally share with Morgan. The danger to the town and blame on Morgan was predictable but a great use of the entire area and way to include past and present events. The water tower ending and Bills role with veterans were great moments and the epilogue has me excited to see what Pierce and Tammy get up to, and has me curious about Cy and what his future stories will share!
Acquiring Trouble delivers a sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance between Miles Davies, the strong and steady leader of the family, and Morgan Hamilton, Keeneston’s former bad girl turned successful businesswoman. When Morgan returns to town with plans to acquire Miles’s company, the sparks fly in all the best ways. The tension between these two is electric, and their dynamic is filled with fiery clashes, undeniable attraction, and plenty of heart. Morgan is a fantastic heroine—bold, ambitious, and unafraid to go after what she wants, while Miles is the perfect balance of broody and protective. Their journey is packed with passion, humor, and emotional growth, making for a compelling read. The business rivalry adds an interesting layer, though the resolution feels a bit rushed. Still, the romance and character development make this one of the standout books in the series.
This, was a more complex story than the other books in this series. I really enjoyed the couple's interaction!! The story was suspenseful, very sexy and romantic and filled with very intriguing twists and turns that kept you guessing. Each book I read in this series just pulls me in more. I love the updates and how cleverly Kathleen weaves all the characters from the previous Bluegrass books into the story throughout the whole book. I love epilogues and she usually always gives you one. They leave you with a satisfied feeling and smile on your face!!! Give this series a try if you like standalone stories with continuing family support and involvement.... You will be glad you did!!!!! 😊
I really love how Miles joyfully embraced the new Morgan and made room in his life for her. PTSD has a lot of warriors sidelined and struggling to deal with every day life. Not every one understands the trauma our soldiers go through in combat as well as trying to adjust to life back home. I REALLY LOVE THE GUN COLLECTIONS the Davies family has. Morgan was a survivor and a strong woman who was determined to do the right thing, even if it got her killed. I was happy to see Pam in depth.
Overall Amanda score: A+ In this book we follow the story of Miles Davies and Morgan Hamilton. I LOVE Morgan's character! She is the bad girl of the town, breaking hearts, causing problems, painting the water tower, all of it. I think I love her character so much because she reminds me of myself. Her back story is a very sad one that I also can identify with as well. I created a bond with this character in so many ways. This book was my favorite out of the series this far, and that isn't saying much because of how much I love them all.
This was the first English book that I've ever read back in 2013... But I lost it. I never forgot how it made me feel but I couldn't for the life of me remember the title or the author's name. Ten years later I found a photo of the teenager me having the book on a nearby table. I zoomed and zoomed and zoomed. Then I spent the whole day re-reading this beautiful romance. I'm grateful for this chance and I'm grateful that romance was always a fundamental element in my life.
Okay. I adore the three little old ladies that run the cafe in this fictional town in Kentucky. I adore the Davies family of total characters every last one including the amazing spouses.
Definitely a good series so far that made this reader laugh, cry, and hold the edges of her tablet as she read the thrilling action parts.
It is a great read -- filled with twists and turns. As I am reading the book I find myself "and, and, what 's next". Lot's of action and a priceless ending (seriously, you will be cheering). Former native Morgan returns to home for her job and encounters old memories, old prejudice and a lost love.
Kathleen Brooks' stories are fun! Miles Davies is running a farming cooperative that is being targeted for a 'merger' and he is surprised when an old Keenstonian, Morgan, returns to ensure the merger. They had a very brief encounter on the night of graduation that neither ever forgot. So begins an interesting story.
This is the fourth book I have read. Have enjoyed them all very much. Clean, funny and feel good books.
I received one book free and was hooked after reading it. You know it will end well but there are lots of twist and turns before the " boy gets the girl" feel good ending.
What a beautifully written story encapturinng all the details of Morgan’s effort to whistleblow her boss. Very brave indeed. Miles coming to rescue her, love comes into play and they marry. His brothers meeting their loves too. Very endearing ,
I love the characters, the setting, and the suspense. The humor just adds enjoyment. I love the dialog in the cafe. The romance has a very long road but a happy ending. The action scenes are very exciting. The whole book is enjoyable.
No hay libro malo!!!! Me gusto que Mason con sus actitudes demostrara no ser la oveja negra que todo el pueblo piensa que es, y como Miles se va enamorando de ella
I'm here again saying I loved this book. All the brothers are fun.interesting and love their family and there town. They will everything to help each other
I am from Kentucky so this series is fun for me. It's not high literature, but it's entertaining and passes the COVID quarantine almost enjoyable. I loved it.
