On an Earth decimated by war, a lone gunslinger delivers justice, protecting the innocent and righting the wrongs of a broken world. Some call him lawman. Some call him madman. Some call him vigilante. Some call him killer. Some call him legend.
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

I hope Hayden finds a happy ending though. At this point he deserves it. Maybe Max left him a clue. And where the hell is Caleb? Something is brewing and it can’t be good.
Maybe it's just me and my recent mood, but this felt like one of the most gratifying books I've yet read in this series. It has everything your hope for in a novel about the Sheriff, and much more. Several characters (including the Sheriff) have very satisfying character arcs that develop throughout this book (and in some cases have developed throughout the series), and a very big plot question gets answered, which has been mystery almost since the beginning of the series. I'm looking forward to the next book. There are several directions it could go, and I can't wait to see what comes next!
Another awesome, yet heartbreaking, Sheriff Duke novel
I absolutely loved this one. Granted I've loved all of them. Hayden is on a mission to track down his dead wife's clone and figure out how the elusive Grimmel is tied into it. Old friends, new foes, and a mixture of both appear. Following this series has been wonderful and sad at the same time. Cannot wait to see what's next for the Sheriff
An absolute page-turner! The plot twists were genuinely surprising and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The character development was top-notch, with each one feeling fully realized and unique. The world-building was fantastic, creating a setting that felt both expansive and deeply personal. The author’s style is so engaging that it’s easy to lose track of time while reading. It’s one of those rare books that is both thrilling and thought-provoking.
This is storytelling at its finest! The narrative was both gripping and deeply emotional, with characters that felt incredibly real. The author has a knack for creating tension and suspense, keeping me glued to the pages. I was particularly impressed by the way complex themes were woven seamlessly into the plot, adding depth without ever feeling heavy-handed. By the end, I was left in awe of how everything came together. A true masterpiece!
There were moments of brilliance here, but they were few and far between. The narrative was engaging at times but often lost focus. Some chapters were a joy to read, while others felt like a chore. It’s not a bad read, but it’s not something I’d revisit. Worth a try, but temper your expectations.
If you haven't read the rest of M.R. Forbes books, you are missing out. There is a universe he is building and I cannot wait for it to start coming together.
I have read the complete series up to this book. Lots of action and great characters. I always stop whatever other book I may be reading when a new episode and read the next book.
I really like the character of The Sheriff. He's reminds me of the leads ion Western films and shows I enjoyed as a child but without the rose-colored lenses.
Exciting action from beginning to end. Complex characters that are never totally good or evil but just trying to accomplish their goals from what their point of view is. Lots of complex action, a real page turner!
The writing is absolutely stunning, and I found myself getting lost in the vivid descriptions. Every character felt so real, and the emotional depth kept me hooked until the last page. A beautifully crafted story that lingers long after you finish it.
This had so much potential, but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The premise was fascinating, but the execution felt a little rushed. Some characters were underdeveloped, which made it harder to connect with them. Not bad, but not great either.
The trife are gone for good and the void is beginning to be filled with guarded hope. There are those who rise to take advantage of the weaknesses others. Where's the Sheriff???
A good solid sci-fi post apocalypse story, solid world building and great characters. Something for everyone, love, heartbreak renewal, and crap politicians.
