Rate this book
Living with a paranormal storm looming on the horizon, constantly feeling the darkness trying to penetrate his soul, Steven A. LaChance has discovered that the aftershocks of a demonic possession can be more dangerous than the initial haunting itself. Marked by the supernatural trauma inflicted by the Union Screaming House - as chronicled in his first book, "The Uninvited" - Steven and his family find that no matter where they move, no matter what they do, they are still vulnerable to otherworldly attacks. As malevolent forces continue their violent outbursts and relentless assaults, Steven and his close-knit community fight for their sanity and their lives. "Blessed Are the Wicked" is one man's account of the repressed horror and pain that nearly tear his world apart.

The first book was so great --- it was scary and compelling. This sequel is crap. It's whiny, slow, and about all kinds of stuff that has nothing to do with hauntings, possessions, or paranormal stuff.

If you liked the first book, stick with that. Don't bother with this one. Really. It's just a long catalog of all the sad stuff that's happened to this guy and the pity party he had for 20 years.

Blessed are the people who can actually finish this book.

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/reviews/...

Blessed Are The Wicked is perhaps one of the worst true haunting books I’ve read. Why? Because it’s not about the haunting. It’s not about what happened at The Union Screaming House – which, by the way, is barely touched upon – and I, having not read the first book, barely understood what had happened there. It’s not even about the aftermath, about dealing with demonic possession and the occassional resurfacing of demons and ghosts. No. It’s about the author and his family, and that’s mostly it.

There’s not enough about the haunting here, and way too many mundane details about the author and his family. The story itself seems over the top and fabricated – if a house was truly that wicked, it would be worldwide news, especially in today’s era. The author offers little proof for what happened besides his own word (no real search for the history of the house, no other witness accounts). This book reads like a horror movie, or an episode of Goosebumps, except then for grown ups. It’s too over the top not to be fabricated. Even Hollywood is more down to earth when they make horror movies ‘inspired by real events’.

I’m willing to keep an open mind, but when you have poltergeist-like phenomena, demonic possession, satanic rituals in the basement….well, then you know you’ve just stumbled into lalalala-land (aka fiction territory).

The author also has a very black/white view on just about everyone. He classifies people as “good” and “bad” and leaves out everything in between. The writing is boring and sloppy, the author focuses too much on himself instead of on what’s happening, the haunting sounds fake, and all in all, there was nothing scary about it.

Based on the cover of the book, I was expecting something really scary. I was disappointed. The first book is sooo much better and is actually about the haunting. This book is based more on the people involved in the aftermath of the haunting and how the haunting effected the family. Very slow and boring.

I am not usually a fan of sequels for anything since they more often than not fall short of "part one". Blessed Are the Wicked is an exception. Mr. LaChance has a way of writing that makes you actually feel emotions towards the people in the story. I am a veteran paranormal investigator so I could readily relate the crumbling of relationships amongst the team involved in helping the family that moved in after the LaChance family. I highly recommend this book as it adds details that were not in the first book.

Solid follow up to the Uninvited. I now see these two books as a whole. Answered a lot of questions I had, but also brought up more! I appreciate that though, a good narrative will do that sometimes. I'm a sucker for a true haunting story, I make no apologies for that!

I really enjoyed his first book The Uninvited, but this effort was something of a damp squib for me. Mr Lachance seemed to concentrate on his mess of a marriage and deriding his wife, he also concentrates on his dysfunctional family, mainly his eldest daughter Lydia. For me a great disappointment.

Just didn't do it for me

The book jumps all over the place he spends 60 percent of the book complaining about his ex wife and another 20 percent of the book just complaining, the book could of been good if anyone else wrote it that had any talent.

Good follow-up. Not as much paranormal events but intriguing story one the less.

Scariest thing about this book is the cover. and that I bought it before I had read the first book. I won't make that mistake again, a choice that will haunt me for life

Having really enjoyed the first book, I rushed to buy this as soon as it was available. Despite my curiosity and interest in the Union Screaming House case, I found this book to be rather dissapointing. The way it's written makes it feel as though the author is dumping all his personal history and dirty laundry out (a fact he admits to several times) and trying to make desperate connections between seemingly unrelated events or topics. There are also several repeated statements that don't really work to create emphasis, but do make it sound slightly whiney. On a side note, there are a great many number of spelling and grammatical errors, which makes this feel a little rushed and sloppy. I wanted to see where this case went and how it has effected the authors life today, but in the end it all just feels a little too stretched out with too many assumptions that everything bad that happens is because of ghosts and demons.

Not as intriguing as the first book. The focus is mainly on the aftermath of the haunting and how the author's life was affected by it. It does have a satisfying conclusion. In many stories about hauntings or possessions you are left with more questions than answers. This wraps everything up nicely by the end. Do I believe the events in this book are true? Just as with the first book, I still don't know what I believe. But it is an incredible, terrifying story, whether you believe it or not.

Good

Steve is a good writer. Just too much about his personal struggles and not enough about the actual subject of the book which are the antagonist, the bad guys, the ones who create the life threatening circumstances.

This follow up was a great ending to the story. I feel for what they went through and how it changed everything. If you enjoyed the first book than I recommend reading this one.

The original is definitely the best . I know this a true story but it felt a bit forced in the sequel .

This is the sequel to The Uninvited, which if you haven't read you need to do so before reading this book.

The Uninvited goes into detail about the haunting at the Union Screaming House. This book, while still dealing with paranormal events that occurred after Steven LaChance moved out of the house, isn't just about the author's paranormal experiences. You will still find some paranormal experiences in this book, but it is also about the aftermath of the haunting and the healing process the author had to go through.

The Uninvited is one of the best paranormal books I have read and while this book differs from the first one, it is still really good. It is a personal book; oftentimes I felt as if I was reading the author's journal. There was real emotion in the writing and at certain parts, I found myself tearing up.

This book gives a good look into the aftermath of a bad haunting and how it affects those who experienced it. Really good book. I can't wait to read whatever other books Steven LaChance writes.

Good

Good sequel to The Uninvited. I enjoyed both these books. The author covered all bases and concluded his story well in this sequel. I love true haunting stories and this one is good. I had trouble putting both these books down!

I really enjoyed the first book so much more. This one seemed to be a little far fetched as far as what happened. But all in all it was an enjoyable read.
