Irresistible cuteness ✨✨✨
I was scrolling through Libby’s catalog to dig out some medicine-related books the other day, but the adorable pastry puppies on the cover of this comic by kodama caught my attention. As a dog person, I couldn’t help but press the “borrow” button…
I love how the illustrator juxtaposes different dog breeds and pastry types based on their defining features, creating endearing characters with unique backstories and personalities: Bread Shiba may look carefree at first glance, but he hides a poignant past of being abandoned by picky eaters during school lunches that only Corn Chicks know; short Burger Poodle likes to sit on a tower of burger toppings to fantasise about being tall; energetic Hotdog Dachshund eagerly attempts to imitate suave Baguette Corgi, whom he admires deeply.
It is the simple harmony between the pastry puppies that offers a calming retreat from the unrelenting influx of knowledge from university lectures. While it’s not the usual dish on my plate, I welcome this unexpected dessert to the flavourful main course. 3/5
