The second funny book in this warm series full of cute boys, friendships, and music
The Packer twins are getting pretty good at this werewolf thing. The only trouble is, Daniel is the werewolf, but Justin is the one who's good at it. So Daniel concentrates on winning the Battle of the Bands with his group, In Sheep's Clothing. But when his lyrics go missing and the band's dreams of their first gig are shredded. And what will Debi do if she works out the song is about her? Meanwhile Justin totally does not want to win homecoming king. Stuck up cheerleader Mackenzie Barton is sure to get voted queen, and the only person Justin could dance with in front of everybody is Riley—but Riley doesn't even know he exists!
Sienna Mercer grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was an only child, and always wanted a brother or sister – especially a twin. A twin would have been awesome! Sadly, she never got that sister so, when she was grown up, she did the next best thing - she wrote books about a girl who reminded her of herself, and gave her the most fun, fabulous twin she could think of!
Sienna began writing stories when she was a teenager, on a very wet day in Toronto when her cheerleading practice was cancelled - and she has not stopped writing since. She used to write in red leather notebooks while sat on her bed, but now does most of her writing in her attic, which is quite dark, and has some spooky cobwebs in the corners - the perfect location for thinking about vampires. She doesn't use red notebooks anymore, either, although she keeps them in a chest by her desk in the attic.
Sienna got the idea for My Sister the Vampire from a daydream she had - what if she had a super-cool twin sister... who was a vampire? She loved the characters - and their kooky friends and family - so much that she just had to keep writing about them.
When she's not daydreaming about vampires and cheerleading, Sienna enjoys travelling and exploring new cities, and keeps a detailed scrapbook of everywhere she’s visited. She lives in Toronto, kept company by Calypso and Angel – her two gorgeous cats. She is happily writing away and we wait for her upcoming books!
I bought the first in the series for my son, but he was busy with some Goosebumps, so I said “what the heck” and read it – it was really good. Though it was written for a younger teenage audience, it totally kept my intention. So when Book 2 came out, I bought it knowing full well I was reading it first. And I really liked this book as well. The brothers are a perfect combination of teen angst and teen cool. They carry the book well.
One thing? I really want to smack the father in the head and tell him to pay more attention to his non-werewolf son. The favoritism is so annoying.
Sienna Mercer has provided a feel-good, entertaining, heart-warming and funny read once again! If ever there was a series that made me smile, it would be this one. I think this book was stronger than the first book and built on everything that one introduced perfectly. With amusing situations, well-developed characters and a bonus supernatural element, I would definitely recommend this series!
I don't know who has it worse. Of the two Packer twins, teen werewolf Daniel isn't the one their dad expected to wolf out, and now that he has, he is unprepared to control his new powers – and his tendency to grow hair, claws and fangs when his emotions are stirred up. Meanwhile, non-werewolf twin Justin has to keep up with the junior high football team despite everyone else on the squad having lupine powers. Neither of them is ready to share his secret yet, but that means Justin takes a beating and runs himself ragged trying to get by on pure athleticism, while Daniel's self-control is tested by encounters with a musical rival, his crush on a pretty girl and his band's upcoming first gig at the homecoming dance.
There's plenty more teen-romance, sporty and rockin' to fill this thin chapter book. When the town's werewolves get together to run and howl, what do you do? Send your wolfy twin to mingle with the football squad, even though he doesn't know a punt from a field goal? Or try to phone in your howl – literally – and pretend that you don't feel like going wild and hairy? And then there's the businesses about stolen song lyrics, which might hit too close to what a boy feels about a girl, not to mention an emotionally fraught race for Homecoming Queen. It's almost enough to make you grow a fur coat.
Sienna Miller's tale of teen wolves in a town where lots of people are werewolves, but it's still a big secret, is full of plot complications, misunderstandings, ill-advised twin swaps and instances of boys being chronically unable to come right out and say what they feel. It's also funny and puts the storyline across the goal line.
This is the second of four "My Brother the Werewolf" books, following up on Cry Wolf! and continuing with Howl-oween! and Tail Spin. If you're into the travails of teenaged twins sharing a paranormal secret, you may also like Sienna Mercer's 18-book "My Sister the Vampire" series.
These boys pull at my heart strings, they are so in love with their crushes it's so cute. Daniel is coming to terms with being a werewolf, but he has his moments. Justin is having to work even harder to keep his secret from the beasts. I hope he can keep up the act, but some of the guys are becoming suspicious.
