Those eyes! That face! I wanted to scoop this cat and book up and cuddle, cuddle, cuddle! 

After being left behind in the confusion and chaos of a move, Slipper finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. Alone and lost! Our furry hero must search for a new home. She travels from the farmlands of the country side to the sidewalks of the city. An adventure for readers and cats! :)

Slipper’s face fills the page with emotion and laughs. One look in those big, beautiful eyes and I was lost! The motorcycle saddlebag was my favorite ride and facial expression. Haha…The eyes said it all! :D

Soft, warm, fluffy pictures bring this tale to life on the page and in your heart. A sweet, sweet moment right near the end will have you “aw”-ing for sure. The change of angle and view was perfect!

Can Slipper find a new home or maybe, just maybe….

A highly recommended read.

I must admit to reading this book very close to the anniversary of my cat's death. I made personal connections with many of the pictures so my opinion may be prejudice or it may just be that these are things many cat owners/lovers will make a connection with also.

Once again I have to reiterate having a cat for a model really gives cat illustrations authenticity. The details, from the tail wrapped around it's persons ankles to the way the cat hugs the slipper, are wonderful. It is touching to see the cat trusts this "new" family so much it exposes it's belly. I can almost feel the texture of the fur from the illustration. The picture of the cat loving on the slipper at the end is so true to life I cried (remember death anniversary)because it looked exactly like my Indy did when she loved on my slippers. The joy and satisfaction are so evident in the expression. The people in the story are all shown from the cat's perspective as we are reminded our pets adopt us as much as we adopt them. The story does have a happy ending so share it with all the cat lovers you know.

My five-year-old son picked this book out from the library this week. We have three cats. He loves them all.

I loved this book. We have three cats. I love them all. The story itself was sweet, and sad, and thought-provoking, and then sweet again. I had to make sure there was a happy ending before we checked this book out from the library.

As good as the story is, the illustrations are phenomenal. They are spectacular. They are beautiful. And perfect.

I am very tempted to buy this book, just because I adored the illustrations so much.

This was definitely a sweet book for cat lover! It's fun to see things from the cat's perspective (calling all the humans by what shoes they wear, because that's what he can see). A cat that gets left behind in a move wanders around to find a new human to "adopt." The ultimate ending, while somewhat predicable, is really the only way that the story could have ended and was perfectly fitting. The illustrations are realistic and fun.

A sweet story about a cat who gets left behind on moving day and goes out in search of someone new to adopt. Kids with an affinity for cats will love it.

Slippers the cat is lost during all the hustle and bustle of her owner's moving day. She sets out to find a new owner. Many people cross her path, but she only finds one that seems quite right.

The illustrations in this are gorgeous. The tale takes a little suspension of belief but kids are not going to be bothered by that, and most should be very satisfied by the happy ending. I like how the cat calls all the potential owners by their shoe wear (her original owner is Mrs. Fluffy Slippers, a horse is Mrs. Iron Shoes, etc.). It seems fitting for a cat perspective, especially since we don't see anyone higher than their waist in the illustrations.

A cat named "Slipper" accidentally gets left behind when her person moves and when she tries to follow she gets lost so her person can't find her when she realizes Slipper isn't in the car. Slipper has several adventures with people wearing different footwear before eventually finding home.

Mr. Mader had me concerned. I am all about my happy endings when it comes to pet stories, and though Slipper is very practical about finding people, to me it isn't "happy" unless they reconnect with their original owner, so I was worried, but it all works out. Extremely detailed/realistic pictures just make it even more delightful!

No content issues.

Slipper is forgotten and left behind when Mrs. Fluffy Slippers and her daughter decides to move to another city. After chasing the moving van for miles, she owns up to it that she's lost and needs to find someone new. Ms. Muddy Boots, Mrs. Iron Shoes, Mr. Cowboy Boots, Mr. Big Boots all seem promising but no perfect match! Hitching a ride into town, she spots a pair of shiny shoes that belongs to a little girl. She follows her path to the kind of people Slipper can finally adopt. Lost Cat is a 2015 Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award nominee.

Slippers the cat gets separated from her human during a household move. She chases the moving van as far as she can. Then she begins to try to find a new human to adopt her. Each pair of shoes she encounters isn't quite right until she meets Ms. Shiny Shoes and knows she must go home with her.

A heart-wrenching story with a beautiful ending. This book would be wonderful if a teacher wanted to use this book to help children with their storytelling skills. Also could be used to help children infer what kind of person a character is by looking at their shoes.

Stories with cats in precarious situations always make me uncomfortable, but I wanted to read this anyway for the beautiful cover illustration.

The action and illustrations take place from the perspective of the cat, uniquely framed through the cat looking at people's shoes. People are mostly named based on their shoes and the shoes are how the cat identifies people.

Thankfully there was a happy ending.

Such a cute little story...Cats have known to travel many many miles only to find their way home again. I know this to be true because my family once had a calico cat that disappeared for a year or two and when it came back my family didn’t believe me when I told them it was the same cat! That’s why this is such a great story cause this really does happen!

On a side note, not only was it a good story, but I also loved it was told from the cats perspective!

This book is too cute with a happy ending. At first I thought it was going to be a heartbreaking tale like a certain game I have played, but it all turned out well in the end. One of the things that touch my heart the most was the fact that instead of a human wanting to adopt the cat, the cat was the one looking for someone to adopt. At the end she made it to her new home with familiar faces ^_^ living her best life.

Booklist (November 1, 2013 (Vol. 110, No. 5))

Preschool-Grade 2. This tale of a lost cat who searches for someone new to “adopt” should appeal to every child with a pet (or hoping to have one). Slipper the cat has always “lived with a little old lady in a little old house in a little old town.” Mrs. Fluffy Slippers moves out one day to live with her daughter’s family, and in the bustle, Slipper is left behind. So Slipper sets out to find a new family. Mader’s cozy pastels lend a lustrousness and depth to the illustrations, which, in a nice touch, are mostly shown from a cat’s-eye point of view, often of footwear. For example, Slipper encounters Mrs. Iron Shoes, and readers get a view of a horse’s legs and one human boot in a stirrup. Slipper rejects each potential owner until she follows a small pair of shiny shoes—to Mrs. Fluffy Slippers, now in her daughter’s home. A fresh tweak on the ever-absorbing and satisfying lost-and-found pet story.

Horn Book (Spring 2014)

Cat Slipper is accidentally left behind when her owner moves. She tries to follow, gets lost, then searches for a new person to "adopt." Slipper eventually heads home with a kind little girl: her owner's granddaughter. The text occasionally verges on cutesy, but realistic pastel illustrations (many with a cat's-eye-view perspective) effectively convey the dangers of the outdoors and the coziness of home.

Kirkus Reviews (August 15, 2013)

Attractive illustrations, gentle humor and a large but satisfying coincidence propel this first effort toward a happy ending. The plot is simple. A beloved cat, left behind in the bustle of moving, first tries to catch up then considers a variety of options before finding the perfect new home. Mader matter-of-factly describes Slipper the cat's wanderings and adds a touch of humor to the potentially poignant tale by assigning names to human characters based on their footwear. Shown from Slipper's vantage point, the pictures likewise focus on feet, from the cat's original owner, Mrs. Fluffy Slippers, through strangers that include the friendly Ms. Muddy Boots, intimidating High Tops and noisy Mr. Big Boots to the warmly welcoming Miss Shiny Shoes. Mader's realistic drawings, created with pastels, are particularly effective when a single image dominates the page (Mr. Big Boots' shiny red motorcycle on one spread, Slipper herself on another). While occasionally somewhat static, they add charm to the straightforward story and effectively portray both setting and characters. In at least one instance--a double-page spread that shows Slipper's silhouette, small and far off, engulfed by the dark forest around her--the pictures also add an emotional resonance that is mostly missing from the brisk text. Given the appealing subject matter, tightly focused visual storytelling and feel-good resolution, Slipper's adventures will likely find an enthusiastic audience, particularly among feline fanciers. (Picture book. 4-7)

Publishers Weekly (September 23, 2013)

Mader, a former ad exec, debuts with the delightful story of a cat named Slipper that gets separated from its owner. Readers see the world as Slipper does: first off, she's not hoping to get adopted by a human-she believes she's the one doing the adopting. Additionally, the humans are identified only by their footwear; Slipper's original owner was Mrs. Fluffy Slippers, and the cat meets Ms. Muddy Boots, Mrs. Iron Shoes (a horse), Mr. Cowboy Boots, and others during her travels, which conclude with a happy reunion. Mader's fine pastels ably represent the details and textures of the environments Slipper explores and the people she meets, from a motorcycle's gleaming chrome during a "fast and scary ride," courtesy of Mr. Big Boots, to the parade of footwear Slipper sees walking the concrete streets of a town. As for the gray-and-white striped cat herself, Mader had a real-life model in a cat that found its way to his doorstep, and it shows in his loving and lifelike images showcasing Slipper's delicate, soft fur. School Library Journal (August 1, 2013)

PreS-Gr 1-Slipper lives a happy life with Mrs. Fluffy Slippers. When the old woman moves, the poor tabby is left behind in the commotion. Chasing after the moving van, she gets lost and decides that she will adopt a new owner. Portrayed from the perspective of a cat, all humans are cleverly depicted as various pairs of footwear. Slipper rejects Ms. Muddy Boots, High Tops, and Mr. Big Boots and finally runs into Miss Shiny Shoes, whom she accepts, and who serendipitously reunites her with Mrs. Fluffy Slippers. Mader's full-spread pastels portray Slipper with realistic feline expressions that cat lovers and owners will immediately recognize. The depictions of poignant moments, such as the tiny cat in an immense dark forest with only the word "Lost!" above her or Slipper contentedly sprawled out on her owner's feet, are sure to capture the audience's attention and affection, and make them root for the intrepid feline. A neatly told story, sweet without being saccharine, that charms from beginning to end.-Yelena Alekseyeva-Popova, formerly at Chappaqua Library, NY (c) Copyright 2013. This is a neat story written about a cat who has a wonderful home. One day that changes so Cat decides to look for someone new to adopt and she meets a lot of feet/shoes but none that she likes until she spots a pair of black shoes and decides to follow them home. At that home, she finds the pair of fuzzy slippers that left her behind at the beginning of the story. Beautiful illustrations!

4 stars due to the fact that during, this book gave me anxiety lol. I could NEVER!! I would be so heartbroken if I lost my cat and while reading I was unrealistically mad at good old slipper shoes for leaving without her baby. Imagine! Regardless, the ending made up for it and was really cute and made the journey muchhhhh better.

Who among us wants to be lost? At any age being lost can terrify us.

"Lost Cat" provides a genial tale of reassurance.

It's sweet, having the lost one become the one in demand, the persnickety customer.

And the ending definitely qualifies as happy.

FIVE STARS for author and illustrator Roger Mader!
