A dazzling mystery adventure in a gloriously colorful, wordless graphic novel, featuring the lovable Scarygirl—beloved by millions of fans internationally When Scarygirl is abandoned at on a remote peninsula at the large friendly octopus Blister's house, Blister and Scarygirl become best friends. But no one knows where she came from, or who she really is, and her dreams are full of strange and disturbing visions. As the dreams become more and more urgent, Scarygirl knows she has to leave the safety of Blister's home and travel over the mountains to the city to find out the secrets of her past. Will Dr. Maybee's laboratory give her the answers she is seeking, or will his dark forces overpower her?
A fairly sophisticated wordless story for tweens and older. A mystery adventure with lots of color. Scarygirl and Blister are best friends. No one knows anything about her, but her dreams are full of strange and disturbing visions. Scary girl has to find out the secrets of her past that are implicit in her dreams. I like it.
A picture is worth a 1000 words is especially true in this beautifully drawn graphic novel about love, friendship and the family you choose that doesn't have any words (except for some sound words). Not everything is gooey sweet in this story when Scarygirl goes on a perilous journey to discover the truth about the man in her dreams. Nice story.
Killer Camera- Graphic Novel Review This must-read novel is fast-paced and an easy read, so don’t put the book down! This curious story is one that will leave you feeling exited because of the suspense and sudden events that occur in ‘Killer Camera’. Through the coloured pages of this graphic novel about a boy, who buys a cheap camera off a mysterious seller from a car boot sale for his dad’s birthday, the truth of this magical camera unravels. After finding out what happened to the previous owners of the camera, the main character, Matt, has to get rid of this camera quick! The page turning events intrigue you to keep reading. It is a simple yet interesting novel with the use of speech bubbles when the characters are talking, and some narrative text; which along with the pictures is very descriptive. All this combined makes you feel that the story is almost real; like you’re there. The characters definitely draw you in to explore this quirky story. By Gemma Crowe
This book is like a box of surprises. Awesome artwork all the way through. Saturated with edible-seeming colors and fantastical dream shapes. At least half the pages would make great art prints on their own. It's wordless, and I have to admit that sometimes I was a little lost as to what was happening, but I don't care. This is a book I will keep in the house, within easy reach, because I'll want to peruse it from time to time. And the sketchbook pages at the back are wonderful! Surprisingly different style from the finished pages, and awesome in their own right.
I wasn't a huge fan of the character designs at the beginning but soon enough i started loving them. In particular the use of psychedelic colours and setting designs were GORGEOUS. There was so much detail put into each panel i could stare at each page for over 5 mins ( which is really long seeing as how usually I just read and run ) Also the story was quite intriguing and i really loved it more and more as i got through it
One thing for certain this graphic novel would make a fantastic movie
I don't mind wordless picture books or wordless graphic novels, but sometimes they can be a little too long. I like words to go along with the pictures. I got tired of looking at the pictures about halfway through. What I read, I thought was okay, but I had no interest in finishing. My 7-year-old (who reads on a 5th grade level) took a look at a few pages and decided it wasn't for him either.
What I enjoyed most about this graphic novel is the wonderful artwork! The fact that no dialogue was used, making the story rely completley on the artwork for its direction, made the journey more interesting. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in the story.
This is a cute graphic novel intended kids. It has beautiful artwork and has no words. Scarygirl is a side-scrolling adventure game that many kids will be familiar so some kids will be automatically hooked.
no words at all, beautiful artwork, might be a good intimate read-aloud for third, fourth and fifth graders in small groups, first part of story, intro to main characters, bit of a cliff-hanger
