Roped & Wrangled #2

Bucking the Rules

Rate this book
Trace Muldoon can handle anything...

As long as it has four legs, a mane wild as the wind, and a penchant for chewing hay. But when life tries to throw him off, that's when the rodeo star is at his best.

Jo Tallen knows what she wants...

And it's not a picket fence. She had a hard childhood, but now she's the boss of the town's best watering hole, she's got her friends and her neighbors, and there are plenty of eager ranchers around. She might have a thing for Trace--but there are too many complications. And the most dangerous is that whenever the hot cowboy bellies up to her bar, she just can't keep her hands to herself...

Trace needs a ranch and baby break. So he heads to town to a new bar called: Jo’s Place. Well Jo sparks his interest. A friendship starts and then they become lovers. Jo wants the lovers part to stay just between them. Trace has a 9 month old baby. That topic doesn’t come up for over half the book.

Both Trace and Jo have come from dysfunctional families. Trace knows the sacrifice one can make for a child and he does so willingly. Jo would rather be alone than end up like her mom - 7 marriages later. Trust doesn’t come easy, especially with Jo.

Middle book to a trilogy.

Loved this novel! I definitely need to get the next one to see what happens with Bea and her secret....my only complaint about this book is that we are left hanging about Bea secretly riding, and her reason for keeping it secret.

Kat Murray has done it again. Bucking the Rules is the second book in her Roped & Wrangled series. Trace Muldoon was introduced in Taking the Reins as the older brother of Peyton Muldoon.

He comes home to help out on the ranch. He appears with a son but is very mysterious about where he came from and who the child’s mother is. By the end of the first book you will be begging for more of Trace.

Jo Tallen is the new girl in town. She is a city girl looking for a simpler life. She renovates a local bar to give it a modern touch but has somehow kept it appealing to cowboys and non-ranchers alike. She wants to be accepted by the town, fit in to be a part of it. It is the first time she has found somewhere to call home.

Together, Jo and Trace are not as different as one might think. They both have mothers that were not exactly role models to be seen on the Hallmark channel. Even with similar upbringing they both have really different views on family life. They know nothing about each other but they are somehow drawn to each other.

You don’t have to be a cowboy lover to love Bucking the Rules. It puts a new perspective on men who take single parenthood seriously. I also love that the characters are so drawn to each other. It is easy to see that some rules are meant to be broken when it comes to love.

I had a little crush on Trace after reading about him in the first book by Kat Murray "Taking the Reins" and was REALLY excited when I finally got to read his story... and so GLAD I wasn't disappointed.

Trace seemed like an amazing single dad and after reading how he got his son in the first place you too will fall in love with him. His love for his son is so strong you can tell he wasn't the type of guy who had to be forced to hold up his responsibilities or a bullshitter kind of guy, which is why it was so easy to believe he could fall in love with a woman like Jo at first sight. He knew what he wanted her and was ready to do anything to get her, just like his son.

and I can totally understand Josephine's fears of getting too close to them... she's never had a family, never saw a need for one, but I loved how that piece of drama wasn't dragged out.

FYI the BEST part of the story is when she was babysitting Seth for the first time and started having a conversation with him cause he wasn't happy and missing his dad... that was classic.

I can't wait to read about Emma's romance in the next book of the Roped and Wrangled series.

I received this book as a prize in a giveaway, I was not asked to do a review in exchange. This one started out a bit slow for me, but by the second half of the book, I was a bit more involved with the story. Good writer, decent plot line, nothing wrong with the characters - Just Not my normal genre, so I think its more me than the story.

Loved! This was the first book (that I can remember) with a daddy hero, and a heroine who does not want to be a mommy. Can't wait for Bea's story next. She became even more intriguing in this installment.

I didn't like this one as much as I did the first one in this trilogy. Good story though and still like the characters..I will read the third one because I want to know what the third sibling is up to.
