The Ghost Tree

Rate this book
In her first children's story, The Ghost Tree, Singer-Songwriter Yvette Landry's Cajun childhood contributes to a tale rich with the intrigue and adventure that only the Louisiana swamps can provide. The story begins in her ancestral home, the small, somewhat isolated community of Isle Labb, and ends in the swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin. Her grandfather tells her of an ancient Native American legend: A cursed tree that comes to life every Halloween. Unlucky travelers who stumble across the tree on that fateful night are never seen again. He would know after all, he's the only one ever to survive an encounter with ... The Ghost Tree.

Generations back children were warned not to venture alone in the Louisiana swamps with stories such as these. In this creepy picture book, on Oct 31st 1913, three boys learn exactly why they were told not to travel alone into the swamp when only one boy makes it back to tell the tale. In some ways it reminded me of a good Scooby-Do mystery but with original Cajun flair. The illustrations add to the eerie feel and kids who love a good ghost story will enjoy this one.
