Every day principals, assistant principals, superintendents, and others in educational leadership positions struggle to manage day-to-day school operations and still find time to champion school reform. Meanwhile, teachers remain a largely untapped resource. With their daily access to students and immediate understanding of what contributes to and what stands in the way of improving learning experiences, teachers have the knowledge, experience, and leadership potential to bring about significant reform. But how can principals and others effectively tap this resource? What leadership roles are appropriate for teachers, given their other responsibilities? Where can they be most effective? How can schools identify potential leaders among teachers and support their leadership work? The authors of this volume address these and other important questions, providing insights and ideas for ways to capitalize on this important but sadly underutilized resource.
