As the second son, Aiden never had anything promised to him. No direct inheritance of any property or money. So, when King John offers him land and a wife who is a princess, Aiden jumps at the opportunity. The only catch, he needs to secure his holdings from the Scottish villagers creating problems on his property. Traveling to Scotland with determination, he instead finds himself struck dump by the beauty of one of the castles inhabitants.
Evelyn is the daughter of a Scottish Laid but she herself hold no title. She was engaged to the previous English lord who went off to battle to die, leaving her with nothing but an illegitimate son and soured reputation. Now that a new Englishman has come to claim to property, Evie imagines she’ll be thrown out into the cold…but instead, he seems just as attracted to her as she is to him. Sure, he’s looking for a mistress but Evie is determined to be a wife.
So, they both go about trying to seduce one another. One for a fuck and one for a proposal. Feelings will hurt, especially when Evie finds out about Aiden’s betrothed. Will love manage to bring them together or drive them further apart?
I enjoyed this book but it had its flaws. Mainly, the whole fae and magic bit which was ironically when drew me to the book in the first place. I found the whole fae and magician thing silly and not really fitting in with the story as a whole. The majority of book is spent of 2 people using each other for their own gain. Aiden is a self-centered man whore with a kindness streak. Evie is a woman in a time where women had ZERO rights, using what she has to protect herself and her son. Both not great people but good people. Aiden just happens to be a wizard. There just happens to be a link between Evie and the fae. I could have done without those last 2 bits.

I enjoyed this book. It's romantic and dynamic.
