A very detailed biography, following the perplexing life of someone who was clearly an enormously powerful actress and yet one who seemed so often to press the self-destruct button, in her private life, in her career and even in mid-performance. Engrossing. Made me wish that I could time-travel to experience live performances by Mrs Pat but also by those whose careers preceded, coincided with and overlapped hers.

I cried at the end. Mrs. Patrick Campbell was a foolish spendthrift, but I really liked her.
