This a really good look at the history of rubber stamp making and using up through 1978, when the book was published. And I enjoyed the glimpse of life in 1978 that it provided - it was a reminder of a time when phone calls were expensive, personal computers were unknown, and the internet was ARPANet. You can pick it up for <$10 used - I recommend going through Better World Books (free worldwide shipping and proceeds benefit literacy).

After reading the Stephen Fowler rubber stamp book - I felt like I should revisit this rubber stamp book from the 70s. I'd forgotten a lot of what was in it. Made me a little nostalgic for the days when I could go into a stamp store and see so many interesting and crazy stamps whereas today it seems when I find a stamp store they are mainly filled with cutesy stamps. I noticed that the same rules of the classroom that are in the Stephen Fowler book are here as well, but credited to different people. I suspect The Rubber Stamp Album version was created by the instructor of the class and the Stephen Fowler book one of her students. I'd forgotten there were reproductions of rubber stamp art by Leavenworth Jackson included in the book. Also there were two mail artists that I know(included in the book). One who I met in person back in the 90s(and have since lost contact) and someone I started exchanging work with recently. That was a nice surprise.

a delightfully wingnutty book, yanked from the shelves of book 'em. full of page after page of rubber-stamped mail art from the 70's and 80's. delightful.
