I find it very difficult to describe this book!! ONLY, because , there was simply nothing in this work of art that I didn't love!!! Vannetta continues The Pebble Creek Series with this third book and I must say that she has ended her series with a bang!! I am one disappointed reader that this series is over, however, I DO look forward to more winning books from Vannetta!

My attention was immediately grabbed on the very first page of the Prologue. It was rather like putting your hand in a box of your favorite donuts and knowing that any one you choose will be the BEST! I opened this book and KNEW it would be as good, if not better than previous ones! AND this book was fantastic. and met my every expectation ! My only regret was when I reached the last page, that the story was over, and I wanted it to go on and on and on and........

The character development was outstanding. To me, a truly great book has to allow me to identify with at least one of the characters. This book met this need in a big way. Julia's hurts, shocks, challenges , dismay, as well as her joys , became part of me. I could feel them all!! BUT, and this is the shocker, I could do the same with her mom, and her new beau, Caleb. They became my family and friends as the plot developed.

The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns. Just when you think you know how one problem is going to be solved, you encounter a surprise ! A complication, a change, certainly does not make a predictable conclusion. I was totally entranced as I read. This book is definitely a page turner. I could not put it down. The results???? Well, a dirty house, meals late and not much sleep one night!!
Just don't expect to read a couple of chapters , then you will read the rest later. It just won't happen!! It is a compelling story of a young lady and her struggles! Will she allow God to work through her and comply with His plan??

Definitely a five star book!! You just HAVE to read it!!!

Way to go, Vannetta!! I can hardly wait for your next creation!!

Vannetta Chapman has written another engaging, delightful story set on the beautiful banks of Pebble Creek. Julia is a determined young Amish woman who has a dream to open and run her own cafe in her childhood home. She cares for her mamm, Ada, who has arthritis in her hands and early alzheimer's. Caleb is a hardworking, industrious, and compassionate man. Does God have plans for the two of them?
I wanted to visit Pebble Creek when I read the second book in the series and camp in the cabins there. It sounds like a quiet, calm, and peaceful place to relax. I truly enjoyed getting to know even more of the characters in this new book. I feel that many readers will find much to relate to in this story.....many of us care for elderly parents. We also have dreams, even if we are older. I think Julia had given up all hope of ever finding love and marriage and had resigned herself to caring for her parents alone. God may just have other plans for her life, just as He often does for us! Read this book to find the answers to these and many more questions. Fall in love with Pebble Creek!

About two years ago, my sister got me started reading Amish novels. It honestly took some persuading because I often think I am about as far from Amish as one could be. But, I enjoyed them and soon came across Vannetta Chapman's writings. Wow. The way she writes captures all of me and I feel as if I am walking through her books as a character. The first two books in this trilogy were fantastic and I recommended them to many, but this final book is awesome. Just awesome. It takes you in places that no other Amish novel that I have read have taken me. The voice she writes with is so current and aware of the rest of the world, but captures the Amish way and how they would seem to respond to life events so realistically. Not only is this a book you won't want to put down, but when you are done with it, it will be engrained in your mind for a time to come and you'll question if what you read was truly a novel or actually a true story. Well done.

Love Never Fails!

This book spoke to my heart in so many ways. I realize this book is fiction, however, I was deeply touched by it. God’s word jumped out at me throughout the pages. I even saw my husband in a new light. Things that Julia Beechy dealt with is some of the things I have been dealing with. Did God use this book to open my eyes?

I loved the characters in this book. Caleb Zook and Julia Beechy are so right for each other in many ways. They did not even realize it.

Ada Beechy, bless her heart, is a woman after God’s own heart. She reminded me of my Grandmother and perhaps that is why I was so emotional while reading this book. I fell totally in love with this gracious little old lady.

Other characters play an important part in this book too. Sharon, the wayward young lady, has totally lost her way. She is out of control and her parents make a decision that would be best for her. The decision her parents made did not make Sharon happy and she was filled with anger. Can her heart be changed?

I read this book with a roller coaster of emotions. I found the tears falling as I read through the last pages of this book. I love how their faith, their caring, their love, their forgiveness and their hope, shone through. All of these gifts from God.

I didn’t want this book to end. It was that good! I hope that we will see another book following up on what happened to these characters that stole my heart. Are you listening Vannetta Chapman?

If you are reading this review, I urge you to read all the books of The Pebble Creek Amish Series, A Promise for Miriam, A Home for Lydia, and A Wedding for Julia. (A Wedding for Julia, even has some yummy recipes in the back!)

This is the fourth book of Vanetta Chapman's that I have had the privilege of reading. Third in the Pebble Creek series, this book features Chapman's unusual way of peeking into the Amish life as their traditional ways meet the modern world.

This story starts off with an untraditional beginning to a marriage. At the onset it looks as if it will be a sappy love story, or a story of an attempted relationship that will go wrong. I warn you, you can't make ANY assumptions!

Wound through the story of Caleb and Julia's marriage are threads of God's grace and provision as met through the bonds of family love. There is Ada, Julia's beloved mother, who in dealing with the death of her husband has begun to loosen herself from life on earth until the household takes in Caleb's relative, Sharon, a young teenager recovering from a traumatic event in her young life.

Most powerful to me in this story, from beginning to end, is the capacity of "family" to hold, heal and nourish individual members of a clan. It's a story of individuals trying to make the best of what life has handed them, with faith in God and trust in each other as a final result, which is the way God has intended it to work from the beginning, isn't it?

My Review:

Mrs. Vannetta Chapman has done it again. So far I'm loving the Pebble Creek Amish Series. She described perfectly the main characters and their reactions to happenings all around them so much so that I felt like I was there. A Wedding for Julia is the third book in the series.

Julia Beechy just wants what every person wants-- an identity, a purpose. Something to believe in from day to day that takes her thoughts higher and higher, higher than she ever dreamed possible. But not long after her father's death, her now ailing mother has dashed her dream of opening a cafe in her their home. The words that broke her heart only carried with them her impending doom as she seen it. What good could possibly come of her not doing this?

Her mother, Ada Beechy, informs her of her intentions to see Julia married or after her death Julia will have to move away and live with family in Pennsylvania. This takes poor Julia by surprise because she feels like she has been left out in the cold.

Caleb Zook, is getting on up in years and he feels that his marrying days are behind him. But its long before his feelings for Julia seem to be changing and growing stronger minute by minute. Julia soon finds herself confiding to Caleb about her dream and now how it all has been dashed. When Caleb offers a solution that can change everything. Julia starts to actually consider it. Then if this wasn't enough the people of Pebble Creek start to see winds of change that could alter their future for good.

The author has included discussion questions and some yummy recipes that you will hear mentioned throughout the book.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

This is a character driven story in the sense that what kept me interested or intrigued was not the story per se; it was the characters. Julia is a beautiful and sweet character who is also very insecure, thinks less of herself and is very reserved. She always has her guard up, putting a wall between her and others, so she doesn't have many friends, and she doesn't think anyone cares about her. Caleb, on the other hand, is very friendly, outspoken and outgoing, but true to his Amish ways. Both are mature and very well written characters.

Caleb’s cousin, Sharon, who is introduced along the way, is a welcomed addition in a pretty lineal story. The inclusion of Sharon’s story and point of view brings a fresh perspective and an interesting twist. But it is in writing Ada, Julia’s mother, that the author’s attention to details shines. Each main character is a juxtaposition of another: Julia with her insecurities and doubts as opposed to Caleb, so sure of himself and of their relationship. Sharon with her teenage foolishness and carelessness as opposed to Ada, who’s so wise, so centered and so aware. Even Julia’s and Caleb’s relationship is put in contrast with the relationships of much younger couples.

To me, it was the characters that really drove the story and made it strong. Had the characters not been so well developed, the story would have not kept my interest because what I thought was the biggest conflict (as suggested by the title) was resolved too soon, in the first 120 pages or so, which made me wonder where the story was going, where was the climax or anticipation. It felt rushed, as if the first half of the book was overly edited and the author’s keenly written descriptions were taken out, which made for a first half that’s well written but lacks depth. Those first hundred pages lacked the attention to detail in the story that Mrs. Chapman has accustomed us to.

But the second half of the book is full of the beautiful, insightful prose that I love in Mrs. Chapman’s work. That’s when both stories, Julia’s and Sharon’s, interlaced flawlessly and smoothly and made for a very rewarding read. The different situations the characters faced in terms of their doubts, or loss of control, or desperate need to trust God and others were so well written the reader not only sympathizes with them but can also identify with them. And Ada’s accurate quotes from the Psalms, especially to Sharon, not only ministered the characters but me as well. She is a sweet, intuitive and wise character. However, Sharon’s story was left unfinished, which was a little disappointing.

I loved the way Julia’s and Caleb’s love for each other developed and grew. It was beautifully presented and very romantic for a couple under their circumstances. Although theirs is an arranged marriage of sorts, the way the characters handled the situation, with so much care, kindness and tenderness, very true to their ages, was very refreshing and lovely.

Finally, the introduction of characters from the previous books in the series, such as Miriam, Gabe, Grace, Aaron and Lydia, flowed very nicely. Although many secondary characters were from the first books in the series, I loved the fact that the author didn't feel the need to give each character’s back story. This book can definitely stand alone.

Beautifully written characters, great lessons in God’s faithfulness and wonderfully appropriate quotes from the Psalms are the reasons why these characters will stay with you once the story ends, which makes this book a great read.

About the book: A Wedding for Julia, the third book in a romantic series from popular author Vannetta Chapman, takes a last look at the Amish community of Pebble Creek and the kind, caring people there. As they face challenges from the English world, they come together to reach out to their non-Amish neighbors while still preserving their cherished Plain ways.

Review: Previously in books one and two, Vannetta Chapman inserted us into the lives of Pebble Creek residents and newcomers. We met Lydia and Miriam and now the community story is rounded out with the story of Julia. Each of these ladies has obstacles to overcome in their daily life. We know that life in the Amish community is plain, not easy, not luxurious, not complete with conveniences we deem necessary to life. But these three ladies each has unique lives and must meet their struggles square on.

Julia is the daughter of Ada and they have just lost the father and husband. Now Ada has informed Julia that Julia's dream of opening a restaurant or cafe in their family home is not to be because Ada and Julia's father have determined that since Julia is unmarried she can not live alone so the house must be sold and she must move to another Amish community - unless she marries.

Julia's story rapidly progresses through the phases of unbelief, horror, inspiration, solution, and marriage. Through all of this, sweet Ada's failing mental capacities are worrisome but her ability to quote the Psalms and inspire those around her with these and other wise sayings is phenomenal.

"Courage is fear that has said it's prayers." page 129

When Sharon, a troubled teen from another Amish community, comes to live with them, her troubled spirit is comforted by Ada's quoting Psalms and stroking her head as she brings relief from fear. (page 158)

I found encouragement in things to ponder (page 257)...... perhaps you will, too. Put a name in the blank/s and apply to yourself.

______ and _____ love me.
_____ is a gift from God.
_____ and _____ are a joy.
_____ makes me smile.
_____ is special.
and then affirm..... God has taken care of me.

The Pebble Creek Series is worth reading. For your pleasure and for your encouragement. True it is a work of fiction. But sometimes fiction can bring forth truths that make real life more liveable.

Since I have read the first two books in the series somewhat recently, I started A Wedding For Julia anticipating a good story. I was not disappointed in any way, it was great!

It was fun checking in with Lydia, Aaron, Miriam, Gabe, and Grace. Getting to meet new characters and learning more about some we had already met. Of course, the beautiful Pebble Creek makes an appearance as well. I wished I could just go there, take a walk, and maybe do a little fishing like Caleb does.

This book is a bit more serious than the previous books in the series. It takes on death, care of an aging parent, and other things. But it is also just as entertaining and will keep you reading even after you have promised to turn the light off and go to bed. I finished A Wedding For Julia in about 24 hours, it's been a long time since I read a book in a day and it was nice to find out I still could.

One of the things I liked best was Vannetta Chapman's attention to detail. When I read the storm scenes I, honestly, was beginning to think it was just a wee bit over the top, such a storm isn't possible right? Boy, was I wrong! I decided to do a little research on the 1911 storm the characters refer to. Not only did the author describe what really happened in the Great Blue Norther of 1911, it was WORSE in some areas! A fair amount of research must have gone into that part of the story and it showed. Great job, Vannetta! I really liked the entire book but the storm scenes quickly became my favorites, the author did an excellent job meshing historical facts with a modern setting.

This book is one I will definitely read again at least once. I have enjoyed the entire series and would recommend all of the books to anyone that enjoys the Amish genre or would like to give it a try.

A Wedding for Julia is the third book in the series written by Vannetta Chapman. It centers on the Amish community of Pebble Creek. Julia’s mom announces that upon her death, Julia must either marry or move from the family home. Julia struggles with the dilemma that her home is all she has ever known! Not to mention that she has always dreamed of opening a café to share her love for cooking. She opens up to her friend Caleb, but can’t imagine that marrying someone she barely knows is really what her mom wants for her. As if her inner turmoil wasn’t enough, her town of Wisconsin battles a terrible storm where they must rely on one another for comfort.

Vannetta Chapman more than meets my expectations with this third book of the series. Her story of Julia is one that is most precious, and riveting at the same time. The storm that Julia experiences within her own heart is matched by the storm her town faces by Mother Nature. This is one book that I could not put down! I jumped into the lives of the community at Pebble Creek, and did not want to let go of them. They became my family, too. I experienced their joys, felt their struggles, and prayed for them throughout the book. This book is definitely one of my favorite of Mrs. Chapman’s books!

I'm not a regular Amish reader but I've enjoyed two of Vannetta Chapman's Amish romances, The Christmas Quilt and now this book.

This is a tried and true romance trope, THE MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE. I always enjoy these stories where people fall in love after they are married.

In Indiana, Julia is an only child of parents who were blessed with her in their later years. She's a dutiful child but one with a dream, to run an Amish cafe in her home.

All seems smooth till she discovers that upon her mother's death UNLESS SHE IS MARRIED she will be homeless and must go to her parent's relatives in PA, a place she's never known.

At the age of 37, she does not want to leave her hometown but the only way she can stay is if she marries.

Enter Caleb, the man who delivers her groceries every week (I think many of us would like that service!). Caleb is a newcomer from the Amish PA and has admired Julia from afar. He has long given up the idea of marriage till he find Julia in tears.

And add in an Amish teen suffering from betrayal by someone she loved, which adds another dimension to this charming story.

This is an especially tender romance with a stirring climax. I highly recommend this story to those who enjoy Amish as well as those who enjoy a sweet romance!

When I first started reading this book I thought to myself it was moving at a really fast pace. But then it seemed to level out and became a book I couldn't put down!

Caleb and Julia have a common bond. They both want a friend and they are both not getting any younger. But neither one of them thought becoming friends would lead them down this path! Marriage? But they hardly know each other. And Julia frets she will never be able to have children. And what about her dream of having her own cafe. And then there is her mother Ada who, with a fondness for reciting Bible passages and in failing health, actually started this whole crazy idea by delivering an ultimatum to Julia. And to complicate matters more Caleb's young cousin comes to stay with her own problems. And then there is the weather. Oh my goodness, what a mighty turn it takes!

This book will have you believing in answered prayers and miracles but it will also keep you on the edge of your seat for the last part of the book. I highly recommend this book. It, like the 2 books before it, is not to be missed!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Julia Beechy is shocked to learn that her ailing mother has mapped out her future for her. Ada, a frail yet stern mother, demands Julia to move to Pennsylvania once Ada dies. Julia is determined to find a way to stay in Pebble Creek. No way does she want to end up in Pennsylvania and give up her dream of one day opening a little café in the only home she has ever known. Decisions need to be made and made right quick. As her world seems to be spinning out of control Julia knows one thing for sure: she simply cannot let this happen….

A Wedding for Julia by Vannetta Chapman is yet another example of why Vannetta is on my short list of favorite authors. She has written a truly wonderful story full of characters who will inspire and uplift you. This is the third book in the Pebble Creek series and I have come to love this small community of people with big hearts. If you have not read the first two books don’t worry because you can definitely travel to Pebble Creek for the first time with Julia’s story. Everything fits neatly together as if your suitcase has already been packed for you so enjoy your trip! It’s well worth it.

This is one of those book that you wish would go on forever. It is the third one in the series, and yes it can stand alone, but don't deprive yourself.
Trying to put myself in Julia's place. How would I feel soon after my Dad dies, my Mom is ill, and I learn that the home I have always lived in will be sold. Yes, when her Mom passes, she will be homeless. Not really, provisions have been made for her to move elsewhere. All because she is unmarried at 38. Huh??
What a start of a sweet, almost like a mail order bride, when word gets out, but not quite. This is Amish style. This story becomes a sweet love story, also a home for a wayward teen, and a warm heart feelings for an older woman, Ada.
You are going to journey through some great Amish cooking, helping ones neighbors, and surviving life storms, literally! Don't miss this great read that will leave you wanting more!!

I received this book through First Wild Card Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

A Wedding for Julia by Vannetta Chapman is a true delight on many levels. Julia is a sympathetic character who feels she is ‘past it’ as far as love and marriage are concerned. Her dream to open a Plain Café is shattered when she learns her mother has a different plan and has acted on it.
Caleb is another sympathetic character whose true kindness shines through the dark corners of Julia’s doubts and fears. When their fates bring them together, the struggles they go through and their tentative steps towards a life together are felt on every page.
All of the characters are created in a way that makes you love them, cheer for them and want to wipe away their tears. Once the storm begins, fasten your seatbelt! You are taken on a journey so well described that you feel every force of Mother Nature. Thank you, Ms. Chapman, for sharing your remarkable gift with us!

Fans of Amish fiction will not want to miss this book! This was the first book I’ve read by Vannetta and cannot wait to check out more in the Pebble Creek Series. Though this is part of a series, you dont have to read the other books before you read this one. The many characters are so like able and just down to earth characters, but they are not without problems and struggles. All of the things that I love about Amish Fiction are beautifully displayed here in A Wedding for Julia.

I really loved this story. Julia and Caleb are very likable characters and I really liked what Sharon’s character brought to the story. The events that happen at the end of the book are exciting and had me on the edge of my seat. This was a fantastic series and I am sorry to see it end. I’d read a bunch more Pebble Creek stories!

Have you ever felt as if your life was out of your own control? That’s how Julia Beechy and Sharon Zook both feel in Vannetta Chapman’s latest novel.

An only child, the burden of caring for her elderly parents was left to Julia, a task that she believes accounts for the fact that she’s nearly forty and has never married. Following the death of her father, Julia longs to open a cafe to support herself and her ailing mother, Ada. But when she broaches the subject with Ada, she’s informed that there is a clause written into her mother’s will that states that unless Julia marries, the family home will be sold to a neighbouring English family when Ada dies. If Julia remains unmarried, she will be sent to live with relatives in Pennsylvania whom she has never laid eyes on. It’s not until a family friend, Caleb Zook, confronts her about her situation that Julia considers the possibility of marrying to save her family home. But will their situation remain merely a marriage of convenience?

Sharon is the oldest in a large Amish family, and like Julia, she takes responsibility for most of the family chores. Unlike other Amish girls her age, she’s never had the option of taking a job outside the home. But Sharon does engage in other rumspringe activities—namely dressing in English clothes, owning a cell phone and sneaking out to visit her boyfriend, James. Her behaviour aggravates and distresses her parents, but before Sharon can make any changes, one of her late-night adventures takes a dangerous turn. Unsure how to help Sharon get over the experience, her parents send her to live in Wisconsin with Julia. Sharon doesn’t want to leave the only home she’s ever known, but perhaps this new location will give her the chance to finally take control over her life. Or at least part of it...

Although this novel didn’t feel quite as deep as the other books in the Pebble Creek series, I found it to be a very enjoyable comfort read. It’s always fun to revisit Pebble Creek and spend time with old characters, and meet new ones like Julia, Caleb, Ada and Sharon. If you haven’t read any of the books in the Pebble Creek series, it shouldn’t be difficult to start with A Wedding for Julia, but you might find yourself wanting to go back and read Miriam and Lydia’s stories as you get to know them. Those who are familiar with Vannetta’s writing will appreciate the chance to find out how old characters are getting on, and even little Grace makes an appearance for her fans.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from this story—and I certainly wasn’t expecting to read about an Amish marriage of convenience—but Vannetta made the storyline work in such a way that it didn’t feel contrived or forced. I actually really enjoy stories about couples who fall in love later in the relationship, without the formalities and restrictions of dating or courting. The development of Julia and Caleb’s relationship felt realistic, and it was reminiscent of a lot of the early stages of romances—the chemistry and attraction at the forefront, but not feeling comfortable enough to share your fears and dreams with the other person just yet. Julia and Caleb don’t have a lot to overcome, but it was still sweet to witness their growing affection for each other. One of their largest hurdles was Julia’s struggle to express some of her fears and feelings to Caleb. While this might not be the most exciting conflict, it is pretty believable for someone in the early stages of a relationship. Even if your marriage started out differently from Caleb and Julia’s, I’m sure most readers can relate to Julia’s difficulties.

As much as I enjoyed revisiting old characters from the previous Pebble Creek books, I was just as pleased at the addition of a new secondary character, Sharon Zook. Initially I wasn’t entirely sure what her purpose was in the story, or where she was going to intersect with Julia and Caleb’s storyline, but Sharon’s plot ended up being my favourite part about this book. Sharon seems like your typical Amish teenager—hiding a cell phone from her parents, sneaking out to engage in “English” activities. But when she finds herself stranded at the side of the road in the middle of the night after a fight with her boyfriend, Sharon’s story takes a much darker turn. It took me a while to figure out what had happened to Sharon, and how it had changed her. I don’t want to spoil this part of the story for anyone, but I will say that this is the first time I’ve read an Amish novel that has dealt with an eating disorder, and it managed to do so without being preachy or overly predictable. I liked the friendship that Sharon struck up with their English neighbour, and I’m hoping we’ll get the chance to read about Sharon again in a forthcoming book.

The message that wound its way through Julia and Sharon’s stories grasped on to something that I’m sure all of us struggle with: are we really in control of our lives? Julia struggles with the clause written into her parents’ will, which seems to determine where she’ll live and whether or not she can pursue a career. Sharon similarly finds herself moved from state to state by her parents, with little say in what’s happening to her. It takes both of them a while to realise that they’re actually more in control than they realise, and have been so all along. Although Julia claims that she’s never married because the burden of caring for her parents is unattractive to potential suitors, this is proven false by Caleb’s attentions. Sharon comes to realise that she wouldn’t be in Wisconsin if she hadn’t made some bad decisions regarding her rumspringe activities; although she was left on the side of the road when James abandoned her, she could have chosen not to go out with James that night. Ultimately, Julia and Sharon must learn to put their trust in God, rather than their own methods of control (lists for Julia, eating for Sharon). The message isn’t an overbearing or preachy one, but it was one that stayed with me after I finished this book. It’s probably one we all need to hear.

The pace of the novel definitely changed in the last few chapters, as Caleb and Julia move towards fixing their relationship conflict. I don’t want to spoil this storyline for any potential readers, but the suspense at the end of this novel definitely made it difficult to put down. Even though I knew this story would have a happy ending (that’s why I read romance novels, after all), I still found myself frantically hitting the “next page” button on my Kindle to find out if Julia and Caleb managed to beat the odds and find each other. As much as I loved the epilogue, I will say that the final chapter felt like it ended a little abruptly. Since the storyline with Sharon and the English neighbour wasn’t entirely concluded, I’m hoping that Vannetta will revisit Sharon in a future book. And if not, I guess we’ll just have to decide on her future for ourselves!

While the storyline may have been a little more predictable than the previous two books in the Pebble Creek series, A Wedding for Julia is a sweet romance that makes for a great comfort read. I loved the opportunity to revisit old friends in the wonderful setting of Pebble Creek, Wisconsin, and I hope that this isn’t the last book featuring these familiar characters.

My Comments
What a precious book! A Wedding for Julia is the third book in this series, which is proof that the number 3 is a great number and that Chapman saved the very best for last (can’t you tell already that I loved this read). Its been 6 months since Julia’s father passed away when her mom, Ada, reveals the news that she must marry or move away to live with distant relatives. Julia is horrified and devastated at this news, she has been devoted to her parents for most of her life and has no desire to move away but she has no idea what choice she has.

Enter Caleb…..he has lived in the area for one year, is a hard worker, and has been praying for a companion because he has too much freedom and it has become lonesome for him. Then he has a simple encounter with Julia where he learns of her dilemma and everything seems to fall in place after that.

There is nothing rushed, unrealistic or shocking about this story. Caleb has his flaws, but he doesn’t treat Julia with sympathy or criticism regarding her situation. In fact, he immediately grows attached to Ada and fits right into the harmonious picture they have as a family. I was also deeply touched to see the characters from the previous two books jump right in to help Julia plan her wedding like it’s the most natural thing to do without overstepping their limits or pressuring the bride to be.

Julia has no misunderstanding about the commitment she’s entering into and she doesn’t do so lightly. She seeks God with her whole heart as does Caleb. They communicate every concern to one another with respect and Caleb proves himself even before the vows have been taken. I admired his patience and his heart regarding Julia’s doubts and wants her to be comfortable with him in every area. He is a true leader, gentleman, and God fearing man that comes through for Julia, understands her, and supports her. I understood so much of what Julia experiences, although I didn’t relate to the cooking part of her character, and I was pleased with her maturity and faith throughout the book.

My two favorite parts of the book are Ada and the Elliott family neighbors. Ada is aging quickly in the story, but has rock solid faith and understanding at all times. She brings more peace, safety, and support than I ever thought possible. The Elliott family are Englischers who have moved from Chicago to find a simpler lifestyle and they end up being Julia and Caleb’s neighbors. Their two daughters, elder son, and adorable dog enhance the story perfectly. They also bring healing and restoration effortlessly to Sharon, Caleb’s cousin who comes to stay with them. Between Ada’s scripture comments and the joy of the Elliott family: Caleb and Julia find a wonderful haven and family environment with Ada and Sharon that proves how blessed they are throughout the story.

When the storm hits at the end, I felt every bit of it! Any adversity Chapman writes about in this book only enhances the story as the characters overcome it. There is so much love, community support, tenderness, friendship, miracles, humor and healing in the plot but everything was balanced perfectly! This book really is hard to put down and the reader experiences every bit of Julia’s journey as if you were there with her. This book illustrates in such depth that learning to trust someone happens as you love them and God carefully guides that love when the time is right. You do not have to be a fan of Amish fiction to enjoy this book or relate to its characters. And even though this book is the third in the Pebble Creek Amish Series, it’s definitely a stand alone. It took me longer to read than usual but I was grateful not to rush through it so I could enjoy this wonderful community of Pebble Creek at its finest moment. I highly recommend this book to new and regular readers of Vannetta Chapman, it will give you hope and be an enhancement for all booklovers. The book also includes discussion questions, glossary, and recipes (the cinnamon flop cake sounds wonderful).

I want to thank the author and publisher for the free review copy I received, I was not required to write a positive review.

It has actually been a little while since I read A Wedding for Julia, but now I am trying to recall things and reading a bit of it again so that I hopefully remember things correctly. I do remember that I really enjoyed this book and that is why I wanted to write about it on my blog.
This book is part of a series of Amish books but was actually the first book of the series that I read. I think that I might need to take some time to read books 1 and 2 because this one was so enjoyable to read.
The main character is Julia Beechy. Her mother, Ada, tells her that she has to marry or move from the family home when she passes. Her mother Ada insists that the house be sold and that Julia moves back to Pennsylvania where relatives are still living. But Julia has lived in Pebble Creek her whole life and had hoped to realize a dream of opening a cafe. Because of her mother’s failing health, Julia is very concerned as to what direction her future will lead her. This causes lots of stress and worry for Julia. She is not sure how she will go about changing this situation that her mother unexpectedly caused.

Caleb Zook, who, like Julia, is also getting older than the expected marriage age of the Amish, suggests that they marry in order to help Julia out of this predicament. But Julia is unsure whether she could marry someone she doesn’t love even though Caleb is a helpful man, and a very hard worker. As they get to know one another, perhaps some feelings are being kindled that surprise both of them.
A horrible tornado comes to Pebble Creek like has not been seen in this area of Wisconsin in more than one hundred years. The Amish people must now do what Amish people seem to do very well and that is to help their friends and neighbors and pray that all survive the terrible destruction.
The characters, Caleb and Julia seem to mesh together well as they work together after the storm. The community comes together when the need is there, also. As I read this book, I couldn’t put it down. I am also grateful to authors such as Vannetta Chapmann who write books of a Christian nature that have good moral values, as well as guidelines for each of us on working together and building strong family relationships. An excellent book! I just loved it! It's a wonderful story and well worth reading!
Falling to Pieces
This is a fun whodunit mystery taking place in the Amish town of Shipshewana. After Callie's aunt passes, she arrives from Texas with the intent of selling her aunt's quilt shop. After a little coaxing the Amish ladies that provided quilts for the shop, convince her to re-open the now forlorn looking shop. Deborah's family comes to help Callie restore the shop and clean the grounds.

Deborah, one of the Amish women quilters and Callie work together to sell some of the quilts on EBay. The editor of the local newspaper finds this as a good story to sell a few more of his papers and embellishes the story with incorrect information which gives Callie a bad start in her new business.

Callie becomes friends with the Amish women and gains their trust.

The editor is found dead in his office and Callie finds him and somehow becomes entangled legally with this apparent crime. More incidents happen in town and the police are looking to capture the person responsible. Callie and Deborah play detectives, plotting together to figure out how to find the person responsible for the crimes and find themselves in a scary situation.

The story is one of trust and friendship among women of different backgrounds and how they can bond together and work together even though they have many differences. I enjoyed the story very much and it was a fun read.

Vannetta Chapman in her new book, "A Wedding For Julia” Book Three in The Pebble Creek Amish series published by Harvest House Publishers takes us into the lives of Julia Beechy and Caleb Zook.

From the Back Cover: Just as hope runs out the door, Love softly peeks in.

Julia Beechy is so stunned, she can hardly breathe. Her mother’s announcement that she must either marry or move from the family home upon her mother’s imminent death catches Julia completely by surprise. How can she leave the only home she has ever known? What about her dream of opening her own Plain cafe?

Quiet Caleb Zook thought his time for marrying was long past, but he feels a stirring in his heart he cannot shake for this beautiful, forlorn woman. When he offers support, comfort, and a solution, Julia is afraid to accept it. Can she marry someone she barely knows? Is it the right thing to do? Is this God’s plan for her future? For his?

As Julia and Caleb work through the consequences of their life-altering decision, the people of Pebble Creek weather the worst storm to hit Wisconsin in the last hundred years. Where will Julia and Caleb be on the other side of it?

This is the third and last book in this series, which I am sorry to see come to an end, and this time the focus is Julia Beechy. You can read this volume as a stand alone with no problem but it is a lot more fun when you know the character’s growth from the first two books. If Julia wants to keep the family home and open her cafe then she will need to be married before her mother dies or she loses everything. Marriage to Caleb would be a marriage of convenience. At least it starts out that way. Over the course of the story they warm up to each other and begin to fall in love. However there are some speed bumps in their way that just might stop this relationship. ”A Wedding For Julia” is an inspiring romance. I enjoyed this book a lot and am looking forward to the next series from this talented author.

In A Wedding For Julia, when I discovered that upon the event of their deaths, Julia’s parents had made previous arrangements to send their daughter back to their hometown – a place she’d never been – I was a bit irate!

After all, Julia isn’t a child – she’s in her mid 30’s!

When I mentioned it to my daughter, who’s also in her mid 30’s, she agreed with me. She had several unfavorable comments regarding such a “ridiculous” decision made by parents, who obviously didn’t think much of the idea of grown children being able to make their own choices!

However, after considering how I might feel if I thought my only child might be left on her own, I realized that their arrangement made much sense. On the contrary, it makes no sense to not make some sort of plans for your unmarried daughter, who will be all alone in the world. Of course, she had others in the community, but that’s not the same at all.

And as I kept reading, I found that Julia’s parents had made the best choice for their daughter; indeed, she might never have married if not for these arrangements!

Wow! Vannetta Chapman can weave a story!

She did a superb job with this series – the different location introduced a group with different problems! It completely took me by surprise! The research Vannetta went through to write this series really brought the characters to life. I was so engrossed nothing seemed to disturb my concentration…

Without exposing too much, it is difficult to describe how eloquent and inspirational this story is for readers; I laughed… and cried… with Julia, Caleb, Sharon and Ada. I was touched by their faith and their devotion to family and friends – even their Englisch friends.

Whoa – and the major events that take place here… Vannetta successfully describes the situation in such detail, I could feel the wind buffeting me, the heat surrounding me, the tension mounting, the loud roar and the terror that Julia and the others were experiencing.

If you haven’t taken time to read this series, I urge you to do so now… you will not be disappointed.

I can’t wait to read the last story in this series – Christmas at Pebble Creek – another free short story available in digital format for Vannetta’s readers.

A Wedding for Julia, the third book in a romantic series from popular author Vannetta Chapman, takes a last look at the Amish community of Pebble Creek and the kind, caring people there. As they face challenges from the English world, they come together to reach out to their non-Amish neighbors while still preserving their cherished Plain ways.

Julia Beechy is so stunned, she can hardly breathe. Her mother's announcement that she must either marry or move from the family home upon her mother's imminent death catches Julia by surprise. How can she leave the only home she has ever known? What about her dream of opening her own Plain café?

When Caleb Zook offers support, comfort, and a solution, Julia is afraid to accept it. Can she marry someone she barely knows? Is it the right thing to do? Is this God's plan for her future?

Caleb thought his time for marrying was long past, but he feels a stirring in his heart he cannot shake for this beautiful, forlorn woman. Amid the circumstances of this life-altering decision, the people of Pebble Creek weather the worst storm to hit Wisconsin in the last hundred years. Where will Julia and Caleb be on the other side of it?

A Wedding for Julia is a peaceful and inspirational read; transporting the reader into a world, far removed from the hustle and bustle of our lives today. The book looks at the Amish way of life and some very modern problems facing one of the women in the community. Julia Beechy has hopes and dreams, just like any other woman in today’s world, but her Amish way of life brings those dreams crashing down, when she is faced with a terrible dilemma; Marry a man she hardly knows or loose the chance to open her own restaurant and fulfil a lifelong ambition . Added to this, Julia also has the death of her father and the future of her invalid mother to worry about. Life is anything but easy and straightforward for this young woman.

A Wedding for Julie: The Pebble Creek Amish Series
by Vannetta Chapman*****

Julia Beechy lives at home with her mamm (mother), Ada, who suffers from arthritis and what appears to be early Alzheimer's. Julia loves to cook and bake and it has been a longtime dream of hers to open a cafe in her childhood home in Pebble Creek, Wisconsin. However, she is not sure how to approach her mamm with the idea or even if she would agree with Julia's plan. But before she can talk to her about turning their home into a cafe, Ada shocks Julia with news about what will become of their home once Ada is gone too. What will become of Julia's dream? What does God have in store for her?

As Caleb Zook drives his horse and buggy delivering groceries to his Amish community, his mind wonders as he longs for a friend and hopefully one day to find a wife. As he nears the Beechy home he prays earnestly for a friend. As he learns of Julia's shocking news, he tries to comfort her as best he can. Can they together come up with a solution that will satisfy Ada? God answers Caleb's prayer in an unexpected way. Will he recognize God's answer?

As Caleb and Julia struggle to come to some kind of decision that could very well alter their lives in ways they can not foresee, one of the worse storms in years hits Pebble Creek. Can they pick up the pieces of the destruction the storm has left behind? Is there hope for Julia, for Caleb?

I like the way Vannetta Chapman develops her characters in real-to-life struggles we each can identify with. There is much to glean from her stories, stories of hope, life-challenges we all face, friends and family as well as community that comes together when tragedy strikes and lends a helping hand. Woven through these struggles is hope, love, faith and God's love.

Julia Beechy's life is completely uprooted when she receives the news that she must either marry or move out of the family home. Not only is she about to loose her mother, she will also loose the home she's lived in all her life. Her dream of opening her own cafe is slipping away like so much sand on a beach, and she is powerless to stop the frightening changes that will be taking place in her life.

Caleb Zook thinks it is much too late in his life to marry, but he is compelled to offer his protection to Julia through a marriage proposal. The only hitch is that they barely know one another, and a marriage to Caleb simply for the sake of getting married seems more daunting that anything else Julia has ever faced. With a storm threatening Pebble Creek, Wisconsin, and so many things up in the air, will Caleb and Julia have a chance to make a go of a relationship despite everything happening in their lives?

The thing I liked the best about this story was the strong sense of community and family represented by the Pebble Creek characters. There were people from the previous two books whose stories were expounded upon and revisited, but in no way overshadowed the plot. Julia and Caleb's relationship throughout the book was very sweet and when they finally had their first spat I couldn't help but love them even more. Chapman conveys emotions well to the reader through her characters, and arrested my attention with not only her writing style, but her excellent portrayal of human relationships.

This book was provided by Harvest House Publishers for free in exchange for an honest review.

The day has finally arrived. What day? The day that Julia Beechy has finally summed up the courage to share her dream with her mamm, the dream of opening a café. The problem starts there when her mother throws her a curve ball by telling her that she won't be living in Pebble Creek long enough to make the dream come true. Julia's mom tells her of the agreement she and her dad made stating that if Julia was unwed at the time of her mother's death, the property would be sold and Julia would have to leave.
Enter Caleb Zook. Caleb is drawn to Julia and her situation. He offers his friendship and a solution to Julia's problem. The question is whether or not this is God's will and plan for them. Caleb and Julia take a leap of faith and enter into a new phase of their lives. Add to that Ada, Julia's Psalm quoting mother (She quotes them every chance she get.), as well as a variety of twists and you have a winner of a story.
Vannetta has such a way of mixing in funny, sad, and just has such a way with words. You will laugh and cry, for sure and for certain. And the way she weaves in Ada's quoting of the Psalms, just made this beautiful story a pleasure to read. She also throws in subtle humorous bits of conversation that just make you laugh. Her way of describing the character's feelings are very vivid, so much so that you find yourself drawn right into the story as you find yourself going through those feelings right with the character. It's a story of faith, grace, trust in God, and love. As you read A Wedding for Julia, you definitely won't be disappointed

Series of The Pebble Creek..book #3 "A Wedding for Julia" by Vannetta Chapman

Getting married was the last thing on the mind of Julia Beechy as she sat in her garden crying because she had finally let her Mom know of her wish to have a cafe in the house and cook for a living.
Her Mamm finally said that when she passed on and she felt sure that would soon be happening, Julia could NOT stay in the house alone, she must move where she had family in another state.
Caleb delivered groceries to the house and today he was feeling a little low himself, maybe even lonely in his solitary life. He prayed in earnest that God would give him a friend-a special friend to share things with so he would not be so lonely...Today seemed different when he stopped at the Beechys and Julia was not in the house, her mother asked Caleb to take a drink of water out to Julia in the garden and this is when he knew she had been crying and something was wrong...she needed a friend.
They talked and she opened up to him -telling him of her Mothers wishes for the house when she was gone.
Our lives can change in a blink..be careful what you pray for.
You will enjoy reading this book I am sure and learning how Caleb and Julia become best of friends...
Storms revisit the area and older folks help the younger ones as life changes for many in the blink of an eye...their strong faith helps this community as they work through the storm and afterwards..and
"Just as Hope Runs out the Door, Love Softly Peeks in."
