The Taming and the Betrayal is a prequel novella set hundreds of years before the events in Through Blood and Dragons—book one in The Forged and The Fallen series.
R.M. Schultz is a #1 best-selling author of fantasy and science fiction.
After reading Tolkien, Ryan wrote his first 100,000-word fantasy novel as a freshman in high school. When he’s not saving animals, he continues reading and writing fantasy and science fiction, and has done so for over two decades. Ryan founded and heads the North Seattle Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Group and has published over a dozen novels.
And more than anything, he wants to be knighted by George R.R. Martin.
Amazing fantasy world In only a few short stories R.M.Schultz explains how humans managed to tame the powerful dragons, how they become war weapons to break the millenia elven kingdom and how, far to unify the human kingdoms, they are the seed to a global war and maybe the end of everything.
He also explains the start of the story of Cyran (who seems to be the main character of the series) and the role of dragonguards and dragonmages, how a few can be both and the posibility of reaching great powers throug the 'dragon realm' as the legendary dragon queen, who also has a great role in the series. It's a promosing start for a great series with magic, dragons, fantasy and mistery, and some twists. I've got a free copy and I'm eager to get the first book
And so it begins… … the rise of the dragonguard. ‘Those who harness the dragon will rule the kingdoms. And the Smoke Breathers shall be the first.’ Wow, just wow.
I’ve already enjoyed the author’s ‘Calec of the Woods’ series, but even that didn’t prepare me for how much I got hooked by this.
I already pre-ordered the next two (‘Through Blood and Dragons’ is expected 31 July and ‘Through Fire and Shadow’ is expected Apr 2024) and I haven’t even started this prequel! *** Just received ARC for #1 At least, I have his ‘The Forgotten Sky (The Crown of Dreams #1)’ to keep me busy in the meantime.
Solid little novella that gave us 4 short stories. Got good background into some characters and some world events that shape the main story. Love when self published authors toss novellas out at us.
For disclosure, I downloaded a copt of this novella for free from the author's website.
Whilst I enjoy an indie author, the inclusion of a "reading order", claiming that it is "hotly contested" seems unlikely, given that this was published on 1st June, and the first novel on the 13th June, the second not due to be released until next year.
The wording and style of this reading order statemen seems almost directly taken from the books of Ryan Cahill, a series of 3 novels and 2 (soon to be 3) novellas.
There are sparks of potential here, however, they are quickly snuffed out.
Fire breathing dragons mounted by riders and archers. 4 stories spanning 357 years before the birth of the Dragon Queen Sirra Brackenglave to 541 years after her birth. They cover the early years when young dragons are stolen to be trained to be ridden into battle. Next 2 stories covers the age of the Dragon Queen Sirra Brackenglave, the time humans ride these dragons to attack the elves. Last story is my favorite, Cyran of the kingdom of Nevergrace competes to become a knight. I suspect Cyran's story in future books will be interesting.
The Taming And The Betrayal is the prequel to The Forged And The Fallen series by R.M Schultz. What a promising start to the series. Those who love fantasy novels will love this. Even though it's a short novella, it was so full of twists and turns, magic, dragons, fantasy and mystery. Everything a fantasy reader could want. The author's writing is flawless. A brilliant novel that I highly recommend. I can't wait to read the first book in the series.
My heart was racing, and what an ending for some of the characters. I had to stop and just think about it for a few minutes before I started reading again.
Still LOVE the dragons! Someone make this into a VR game, please?!
This short read is an epic ride through an amazing imaginative world that R.M. Schultz has created. Similar to other dragon fantasies yet has its own unique spin on it. He never ceases to amaze my with his writing. This may just be my new favorite series of his.
The prequel novella consists of 4 short stories. An easy and quick read that I really got into to. The writing is so good. The author captures your attention right away. I look forward to reading the first book in the series.
I liked it. Think a re-read is needed because of the fast pace. Everything is mismashed in my brain atm to process. The writing was great. I will be getting the first book. The world set up was excellent and intriguing.
Enjoyed this prequel and I'm certainly interested in exploring more in this world. Lots of characters; Dragonknights, Dragonsquires, Dragonguards, Kings & Queens, Conjurors, Priests and Clergymen...what a plethora of potential problems.
Such a cool concept and world with the dragon types and abilities and weaponry and characters and magic. I'm reading the entire series. PLEASE keep writing them.
My new favorite epic fantasy series! Dungeons and Dragons meets A Game of Thrones + some Star Wars type flying action and battles with lots of character growth and development.
Excellent novella prequel for an amazing series. Dragons, war. Kingdoms and heroes. If you like lotr, game of thrones and other epic fantasy, check out this great starter book today!
A great little start showing how the first dragon was captured and by whom, which was the beginning of how dragons became so important in who ruled. It was a fast read and drew you into the series.
This story takes place hundreds of years before the events of the first book, Through Blood and Dragons. In this novella, the shining city of Cimerenden has reigned over the continent for thousands of years. However, one man’s vision of taming dragons for war sparks the Dragon Wars, leading to the city’s potential downfall. The book is filled with dragons, epic battles, and the rise of the Dragon Queen
