Forever in the Country

Rate this book
She’s a force to be reckoned with and everything I’ll never deserve.
Just one taste and I’ll set fire to my past to keep her.

I’ve given my life to protect the ones I love.
My sister.
My country.
My hometown.

An injury overseas has me back in Clementine Creek before the ink on my discharge papers has time to dry.
It’s a loss I feel deep in my bones.
Nothing in my life has ever been permanent – the good things always have one foot out the door.

Except her.

Rhea Thayer is my best friend’s little sister.
But she’s not so little anymore.
She smells like frosting and feels like a sanctuary I haven’t earned.

I need to be better. I want to do this right.
When she forces my hand, all bets are off.
An unstoppable inferno rages between us. It’s a need I know will never be sated.

Just when happiness seems within reach, the unthinkable happens.
And everything I’ve worked for since I was fourteen is at stake.
How can you take a chance on forever when all you see is your past?

My life hangs in the balance of a single choice. I just pray I won’t lose it all.

Amazing end to a phenomenal series. I could read about this crew forever and Sorren was all I wanted him to be. Broody and hardheaded but hot AF, my kindle incinerated from the heat between him and Rhea in every single scene. Alexandra Hale created a beautifully written series about epic love and found family and it is not to be missed!

This being the last book in this series I liked it, I liked that they gave me all the previous characters being happy and being there for everyone, I liked that they gave me a close for all this trouble with Soren and Marlee's parents and I think that's why I give it this rating.

Now talking about the story I couldn't connect with Rhea, I found her a bit unbearable if I'm being completely honest, I was so excited for the story of these two that for me it's a soul mates but it left me owing and a lot. Soren on the other hand I loved his character, how even with all his traumas he came through and how even with all the problems he had that when some of the guys called him, he was the first to be there and I loved that when he needed them they were there in the front row.

Even with all the above the story was good, fast but good, I would have liked to see much more but what can I do.

Thanks to the author & The Author Agency for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

---

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but actually ALL THE STARS! (0-5)
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (0-5) I bump up for public-ish place/outdoor spaces.

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 I’ve edged this fifth book in the series for way too long, but I just knew Rhea and Sorren would work on me just right!
🤩 I love Clementine Creek (the town and the series) with my whole heart. Alexandra Hale writes small town so right—all the heart, the cutest jobs and businesses, so many supportive friends that only sometimes seem like meddlers, and fabulous text chats.
🤩 Operation Darling officially makes Clementine Creek my favorite of all bookish small towns ever.
🤩 Rhea is the owner of the bakery in town and the most loving of all her family and friends. She is so perfect for Sorren.
🤩 Sorren is the wounded military veteran and hometown hero because he’s so amazing and resilient. He is just so perfect for Rhea.
🤩 The tension filled situation between Rhea & Sorren is fabulous: “He’s drawn the line in the sand but has no problem toeing that f---er on a daily basis.”
🤩 They have the best flirty banter, and it doesn’t end!!
🤩 Spicy dreams and shower steam—so good in the slow burn.
🤩 I love a little crazy jealousy to get a character making a move.
🤩 And then Sorren definitely gives me the tingles, deeply, when he’s finally honest.
🤩 The steam is so deliciously detailed, perfectly timed, and the best mixture of intense, intimate, and fun.
🤩 Both of the plotlines are so captivating—the suspense feels with Sorren’s parents and the heartwarming feels with Vetted Paws.
🤩 The feels are big but so perfectly timed. Alexandra Hale made me smile and giggle while emotional tears were streaming down my face.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I bawled in chapter one and I bawled over the orchard bonus, but there were just a few other tears otherwise.

Small-town perfection and so worth the edging I gave it! All the stars from me! Full review coming soon.

There is just something about visiting Clementine Creek that I absolutely LOVE. This one especially was heavy on the small town, warm fuzzy vibes. The found family, the friendships and bromances, the love.

We’ve all been waiting impatiently for Sorren and Rhea and they finally happened! Sorreah, as Otto would say, were the perfect blend for each other and I loved that Sorren tried so hard, even when he knew he was making mistakes.

The camaraderie was high in this book. The text chains were hilarious as usual and the book club bromances had me cackling. We got to see the women as sisters and see the love that family and town had for Sorren and Marlee made my heart squeeze. “Operation Darling” was about the sweetest thing I’ve read in such a long time!

Although this is the end of the Clem Creek couples, it didn’t really feel like the end of the series. I could keep reading about these characters and town for like 40 more books if I’m honest, I just love them so much.

If it truly is the end, I’m sad to say goodbye but happy to have been a part of this world. If it isn’t the end? I cannot wait to see what comes next!!

This book was a first for me from this author and it certainly won’t be my last. Forever in the country hooked me in from the very first page to the last.

Sorren and Rhea are great main characters and loved their story, it was exactly what I needed. They were the definition of friends to lovers. The town and other characters added to the book and thought everything worked well together. This book does deliver in the spice department too.

This book does contain some heavy topics so make sure to check them out before diving in, but the author does a wonderful job mixing the heaviness with the sweet.

I definitely recommend this book. Thank you to Alexandra Hale and The Author Agency for a chance to review this ARC.

Ohhh I know we’ve all been waiting for Sorren. And dang was this book amazing! Sorren and Rhea are everything and it was exactly the read I needed. I love this town and these characters and I’m so glad to have seen Sorren get his HEA. This series is special. And so is the author. I can’t wait for more stories!

This was my first read from this author, and it won’t be my last!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3/5

I was pretty hooked from the beginning, wanting to know more about both main characters’ stories, especially Sorren.
He is former military, returned to his town after an injury. Sorren also had a difficult childhood, leaving home with his younger sister to live with their grandparents at 14.

Rhea has always been someone special to Sorren. While her parents took him in as one of their own, they’ve never seen each other as a sibling.

Rhea has spent a long time playing the role of a partner to Sorren, and he’s finally ready to let her in and love her back as she deserves.

Forever in the Country is book 5 in the Clementine Creek series. While it can be read as a standalone, I did feel like I was missing a lot and that distracted me a bit from the story. I am intrigued though, and plan to go back and read the rest!

What you’ll find in Forever in the Country:
⭐️ Brother’s best friend
⭐️ Childhood friends to lovers
⭐️ Grumpy sunshine
⭐️ Former Military (injured)
⭐️ Childhood trauma
⭐️ Right person, wrong time
⭐️ Found family
⭐️ Small town
⭐️ Dual POV/first person

Thank you to the Author Agency for an advanced copy to review. All opinions are my own!

I binged the entire Clementine Creek series (4 books and 3 novellas) ahead of reading this incredible finale and am SO GLAD that I did! This series has one of the best chosen family storylines I've read, and I couldn't put them down!

Throughout the series, we met the Thayer family (5 siblings with the sweetest parents), their chosen family Sorren & Marlee, and so many diverse and hilarious characters who brought the banter in the best way. The guys group chat was especially hysterical and had me regularly grinning like a fool at their antics.

Each book in the series was special, but I was eagerly anticipating when Sorren and Rhea would find love and was NOT disappointed 🔥 Every book is the series is spicy, but the intensity that is Sorren was magic!

Although I loved the ending, its been bittersweet to know the series is done. Imagine my elation to learn that the Author is currently writing the first book in a new series, Staged, which will feature fiesty Emerson who appeared throughout the series!

Forever in the Country is the fifth book in the Clementine Creek series by Alexandra Hale, featuring a riveting friends to lovers romance for Sorren and Rhea. he’s the ultimate protector who has spent his life taking care of others— his sister, his country, and now his town. When an an injury sends him home to Clementine Creek, Sorren is the one who needs saving, and Rhea is right there by his side in whatever capacity he needs every step of the way. The pull between them is strong, but he doesn’t think he deserves her yet. When she does something to force him to act, the passion explodes, but can he shake the ghosts of his past before they ruin his future?

Wow! This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I was blown away! I wish I would have had time to read all the other books first, but I didn’t have trouble enjoying it without them. I’m a sucker for wounded warrior/ military vets, so I loved Sorren right away. His emotions were very authentic and I loved watching him evolve throughout the story. Rhea was a beautiful and strong woman, and I was really proud of her for giving him that big nudge! Boy did she unleash the fire! They had some seriously spicy chemistry!!🔥🔥 The world building for this book/series has one of the best small town scenarios I’ve seen in awhile! This entire town takes looking after its own seriously!🤯 The whole town contributes to that found family vibe, and those group chats give me life!!🤣🤣 I’m sad that this is the last book for these amazing characters in this series!! But apparently there is a spin-off book coming for Emerson, and I’m here for it!! Hopefully I’ll be caught up by then!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

It’s the end of the Clementine Creek era! 😢

I was introduced to Alexandra and her books in December 2022 after I joined a small indie reading group. She was just about to release book 2 (Hank) so I jumped on in with book 1 (Waylon) to catch up and didn’t look back!

We met our hero, Sorren in book one and I was instantly drawn to him. There was just something about him - he was this protective older brother that had all the makings of a perfectly reserved grump… one of my favorite tropes! As the books went on and we learned more (like how funny he is in group texts and how he loves to read romance) I started counting down the months for his own story.

I just knew Rhea was going to be the heroine. I had a feeling from the beginning since all the Thayer boys had their own stories and she was the only family member left out. And I wasn’t disappointed by this pairing at all. I felt like they had SO much chemistry and they just made sense to be together. Their lengthy and trusting friendship really did give an amazing foundation for a relationship - something Sorren definitely needed with all that he’s been through (his backstory will break your heart).

Overall, I liked this story, but I had really high expectations. I mean it’s the final book in a series plus, agreeably, the most anticipated hero. I think when you get glimpses of a character during interconnected books you start to become really invested. I may have been too invested. The right guy/wrong time + some miscommunication was frustrating, but I think that was the point with these two. They had to go through a lot of crap to make it to the other end and I appreciated that!

Admittedly, I am an epilogue snob! I have very clear wants and when they aren’t met it breaks me… don’t even get me started when they aren’t even included. Anyways, I felt like it could have been more focused on the MCs and it just felt a little surface level and rushed. BUT that being said the bonus epilogue that was sent to me a few days later really made my heart sing. It gave of a glimpse into the future of a family we have all grown to love over the last year. I couldn’t be happier to see all of them with their HEAs and, dare I say, a new generation of Clementine Creek romances in the making?! 😉

I am so sad to see this series end, but I can’t wait to see what Alexandra thinks up next. No matter what she writes, she’ll always be a go to read for me!

5 out of 5 thirst trap videos ⭐️

🟢 No i's and k's
-- the use of "right guy, wrong guy" trope in this book was just muy bien. It's the perfect trope for Sorren and Rhea. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough jealousy trope for me to get extremely excited.
🟢 I can't believe I'm gonna say this but #relatable
-- good news, I finally found the first book in the series where I can actually relate 100%. Bad news, I relate to both of their flaws 💀 Sorren's persistent avoidance of asking for help and need for space and time to process his thoughts and feelings, Rhea's need for affection and intimacy to appease her insecurities and loneliness--those were two of my traits that I try really hard to keep from other people. Worst thing about it is when both are combines, even though they're a bit contradictory to each other. I'm not saying these are bad "flaws" per se. More like the characteristics of these people that could possibly cause conflict in relationships.
🟢 Babies
-- in connection to the previous point, I have never been open to anyone about the baby issues. In this book, we see Sorren struggle to keep himself from helping his little sister with her problem in conceiving. And Rhea was right, it's not his responsibility. The miscarriage and fertility issues brought upon in this book was a surprise because I viewed this series as one of the lighthearted ones compared to others I've read. I also had a chemical miscarriage when I was in college and the coldness in the nurse's statement about it being a non-viable pregnancy anyway was a hard slap, both then and now. I felt her pain, her guilt, and her longing. I just wished it was more shown in her perspective. Marlee's problem with getting pregnant was also a hard wall to face because I know I'd be experiencing it, hell I think it would be even worse. I'm not there yet but seeing how it broke them as her friends are each getting pregnant was just as painful as the fact. I had to take a break to avoid crying. Overall, the execution of this trope was good to say the least. I can't say that there's anything wrong with it because we process grief and despair in more ways than one. There's no right or wrong way to do it.
🟠 Where's the rope?
-- spicy scenes were indeed spicy and hawt af but I was really waiting for him to bring out the ropes 🫣 I thought he was going to make good on his thought about tying her up in his bed but we never really get to see it. Oh well. I don't hate it. I'm just a tad bit disappointed.
🫂 (in dom's voice) Family
-- I'm a sucker for bonus epilogue. And I'm an even bigger sucker for found family. The series began with the Marlee & Sorren finding their family in Clementine Creek in the form of their grandparents and the Thayers. It ended with them surrounded by them. I love happy endings and this one is a good one. It's lighthearted, short, and sweet.

This is the 5th and final book in the Clementine Creek Series and Alexandra saved the best for last. This book follows Sorren and Rhea. Rhea is the only girl in the Thayer family, she is the glue that holds the family together and she is the first to welcome anyone new into the fold. Sorren has been best friends with Rhea's brother since they were kids, Sorren had a difficult childhood and it wasn't until he moved to Clementine Creek that he was able to relax a little. Sorren left town to join the military and returned in book 1 after his military career ended because of injury.

I have been intrigued by Sorren's character since the very first book. And each book following Alexandra revealed a little bit more of him making me absolutely desperate for this story and it did 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 disappoint👏🏻. Sorren is very closed off and even though he loves the Thayer family, he doesn't feel completely worthy of that love. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and has difficulty letting it go except when he is with Rhea. She is always quietly there with him, supporting him, taking care of him. He loves her but doesn't feel like he is good enough for her. She loves him and as much as she wants to walk away, she just can't.

I loved that we got a little piece of all of the characters I have grown to love in this series, we know by the end of this book that they are all good and happy. I love the group text messages, they are always hilarious and make me giggle. I loved the emotion in this book, i had tears in my eyes several times reading this story. I love how much the brothers love their sister, how much they want her to have everything she wants and how they kind of make Sorren see that he is good enough for her. I love that Sorren finds his purpose and I love that part of his journey. I love the spice in this book, every spicy scene was better than the last (hello bakery kitchen scene 🥵). I think this is hands down the spiciest book in the series. I love the flashbacks in this book, we get to see the start of the firendship and love between Rhea and Sorren.

I also have to give a shout out to my favorite character, Hank. He makes a few appearances in this book, and if I didn't already love him I would be head over heels after reading his parts in this story.

I love this series and I am sad to see these characters go, but I cannot wait to see what Alexandra has coming next.

I put off writing this review, not because I didn’t have the words, but because I am not ready to accept this series being complete. 💔 And I have no regrets she’s a long one.

Rhea is not only her family’s go to gal, but the town’s, too. She’s there for everyone, at the detriment of her own needs. Sorren is a military vet with a personal past that he shields everyone from, including his best friend, Rhea. Refusing to let it touch her, or to let them be more, may be the end of everything before it even begins…

One of the major things I loved about this book was seeing Sorren’s development. Throughout the series you see many of the characters including him and attempting to get him to let loose. In this book, you see him open up head on and it is more beautiful than I ever could have hoped. He goes from the closed off guy, who is always in his head, to the guy who is laughing, even SMILING, and letting the rest of the world see his beautiful soul. 😍 It was one of my favorite things to experience.

Rhea is the perfect woman: strong, sassy, and a bit smartass-y. The way she puts others before herself was difficult to read through. I hate when people don’t see how truly amazing they are and she needed a mirror and glasses. Once she had both in hand, seeing her stand up and set her boundaries was so respectable. Doing this all, while still supporting the people she’s doing it with? Now that’s an amazing character.

I am not a crier and usually you can only get me glassy-eyed with the most heart wrenching stories. This one? Yeah, Alexandra put some extra tear dust in there or something. I cried at least twice (ACTUAL TEARS) and got glassy-eyed more times than I could count. This was a result of the ultimate trifecta - (1) an amazing series coming to an end, (2) military man [gets me every time], and (3) seeing Sorren and Rhea’s relationship develop and how well they hold each other up. I want them to be real people so I can force them to be my friends. 🤣

This book is a thing of beauty, a masterpiece, take the time to read it and the entire Clementine Creek Series.

ARC review

This book sucked me in at the prologue. The prologue instantly tugged on my heartstrings and left me needing to know Sorren’s Story.

Sorren and his sister left home in Sorren’s teen years. Sorren is innately protective of his young sister and wants to make sure she has the best life possible. Life lands Sorren and his sister, Marlee, in Clementine Creek with their grandparents. Clementine Creek is a place like no other and Sorren and Marlee find themselves family more than just their grandparents within this amazing town. It’s a town that loves one another and protects each other at all costs. Within that family Sorren meets Rhea and they grown up alongside each other. While protecting Marlee and making sure she’s always happy, he leaves himself behind including a budding romance he feels for one of his closest friends….Rhea. Then we get to meet our brooding Sorren and watch him search for happiness. Rhea also has feelings for Sorren and is hoping for a chance to make him hers one and for all. Whilst trying to work through his feelings and move forward through his trauma he finds a very sensitive part of his past catch up to him.

I absolutely loved the story of Sorren and Rhea. It sucked me in from the start and left me wanting more. The spice once they connect is absolutely amazing! The author does a great job with character development, flipping between past and present, and keeping you wondering what is next. This series is a set of standalone reads but I felt myself very lost in all of the characters which led me to my 4 star rating instead of 5. The family that Sorren becomes a part of has many kids along with others that have found their way to clementine creek. I would recommend reading the others before this even though it’s technically a standalone. I feel like it would have helped me not feel so lost or have to stop and try to piece together all the characters. I do look forward to reading the other books on this series. They’re being added to my already extensive TBR list.

I cannot thank Alexandra Hale enough for allowing me to read this story as an ARC! Also loved the extended story ♥️

"I don't need alcohol because I'm practically drunk on the way she's looking at me."

This book definitely found its spot in my top ten reads of 2023! It was so beautifully written and gave me all the feels! BRB while I read the whole series!

In this book we meet Sorren Mackay who at a young age had to grow up in order to protect his sister Marlee. After leaving the toxic environment with their parents they moved in with their grandparents in Clementine Creek. They were welcomed with open arms and instantly became a part of the small town family. He also met the Thayer Family and became like a son to them, they opened their doors to him and his sister and he never knew anything different. These were the people who raised him not the other people who gave birth to him.

Growing up with the Thayer family meant he also met Rhea Thayer which he became close with. When he returned from being in the military she was one of the people he found easy to be around and helped him to be eased back into civilian life but he still kept himself guarded. I mean she was practically like a sister to him. But that didn't stop his feelings for her.

Rhea also started to develop feelings for Sorren but it kept being the wrong time and he said he needed to get better bearings as he adjusted to being back in civilian life. He wanted to be the best version of himself for her but she was willing to accept all of him, the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Rhea owned a bakery and Sorren had a passion to open up a dog rescue/shelter to help place dogs with veterans. They helped each other with their dreams and once they gave into forming an actual relationship the sparks flew!

I loved the character growth in this for both Sorren and Rhea. Sorren broke my heart at times and I just wanted to give him a big hug! I definitely cried at a few parts but then other parts I had to fan myself because it got SPICY! Loved this book and it was easily 5 stars! I will be reading more for sure!

Read this book if you like:
🖤 Friends to lovers
🖤 Right guy, wrong time
🖤 Brother's best friend
🖤 Found Family
🖤 Small town

Forever in the Country  (ARC REVIEW)
Alexandra Hale 💜
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️
🌶🌶🌶🌶

Thank you, Alexandra Hale, for the ARC! You are one of my absolute favorite authors, and it was such a joy to be a part of this ARC team.

I am absolutely in love with this book, and I don't want to say goodbye to Clementine Creek or this fabulous group, but what an outstanding way to end this series.

Alexandra Hale has finished this series off with another beautiful and heartwarming story centered around another amazing couple. Sorren and Rhea have stolen my heart and reading about them, and their love had me going on such an emotional journey.

These two were meant for each other. The chemistry and love they have radiates off the pages of this book. Sorren has always been a favorite of mine, and I was so happy that the last book was about him and Rhea. Sorren has been through so much in his life and has always been the one taking care of things and making sure people around him are protected. He is very gaurded but has a soft/ sweet hidden side, I mean, who wouldn't want a man that reads romance books and likes to soak in a warm bath.

Rhea has been so much fun to see throughout the books and I loved to see in this book just how much she has been there for Sorren and has been a safe haven for him to rely on and go to when he needed that support. She is so strong, protective, and compassionate and is always willing to help the people she loves and cares about.

Sorren may be gaurded but when he finally lets his walls down and allowes himself to embraces what he feels for Rhea, he is top tier book boyfriend material with a dirty mouth on him that will leave you blushing 😊

This is definitely one of the best found family stories I have read and I love all the Thayer family and the entire town of Clementine Creek and how they immediately embraced Sorren and Marlee and loved them both unconditionally.

It's sad to see this series end, but I know I'll definitely be visiting again. It's just too good not to do a re-read in the future!

Sorren Mackay, somehow, I just knew that you were going to be the one to make you hit all the emotions. The love that you have always had for your sister, the protection you always gave her even when you were young and should have been being a teen and young adult, I knew you were going to be special. You felt that it was lucky that you had grandparents that loved you enough to help take some of the raising of Marlee from you. You felt lucky to become best friends with Waylon and the rest of the Thayer family. But the thing is, sir, they were lucky to have you. When you felt that Marlee was safe and at college you signed up to serve the country to make something of yourself. When you were injured and came home to find your next step, it was one person that was able to see through the façade that you put in place. Rhea Thayer has had a front row seat to who you were and who you became which included the little club you had started with one of your best friends. She is also your sisters very best friend. But let’s be honest your best friend s married to your sister, so I guess this is just something that makes sense and it perfect in all the way possible.

Rhea, our beautiful baker that has always been there for Sorren and Marlee. Stood beside her best friend when she became her sister-in-law and has reached the stars to make some dreams. It was you gorgeous, that would be the one to get through those walls that Sorren had put up. Let’s be honest, it was always going to be you. It was never supposed to be easy, but true love, the kind that goes all the way to your soul, it worth every struggle. As we say goodbye to Clementine Creek for now, the fact that we get to see one of our most beloved characters find the love of his life and she is the perfect fit just for him gives you the ending you need.

The Series Finale I Was Craving

Alexandra Hale had my heart breaking from page one in her Clementine Creek series finale, Forever in the Country. After falling in love with Sorren and Rhea from book one, I couldn’t wait to immerse myself in their perfect HEA.

Sorren drew me in from the very start of the series, because, let’s face it, broody protectors are my catnip. He had so much baggage, so much depth to his backstory, and there were so many unknowns about him, and Hale did right by him, giving him the best recovery story. A story accentuated by the love of and for his found family. And Rhea was the ultimate caretaker through the series, pulling me in with her warmth and insights. But that no-nonsense side of her was exactly what Sorren needed. Being seen as the beautiful soul she is—caring, protective, independent—by her family, and finally by Sorren made all the struggles worth it.

Hale does a really great job of weaving her stories around the solid elements of family ties and the foundations relationships are built on. Forever in the Country infuses emotional intensity and steam, allowing her characters to let go of the past and embracing the present and future with their perfect partner. The most wonderful thing about this series finale: Seeing characters I adore finally recognize their struggles and make room for the future by saying goodbye to the past.

As with all great series finales, it wasn’t just Sorren and Rhea who got closure, but Marlee (Sorren’s sister- Back in the Country) and the entire Clementine Creek family. Those small-town feels are strong, as are the bonds created through the series. While Forever in the Country can be read as a standalone, readers will have a much better grasp of the family dynamics, characters, and their backgrounds if the series is read in order.

Every now and then you come across a book where 5 stars is just not enough. Forever in the Country is one of those books.

Sorren and Rhea’s story has been slowly and quietly building all series and it is so much more than I ever imagined it would be. The passion is explosive and was exactly how you would picture a broody, protective and possessive Sorren to be. And the way Rhea matches him in every aspect makes them perfect for each other.

This journey is an emotional one, I lost count of the number of times I reached for the box of tissues. Sorren carries such a burden on his shoulders but it wasn’t the one that I expected it to be and it was so much more heart-breaking than I anticipated. He is such a broody hero and my heart melted as he slowly let people in and began to lean on them; slowly allowing Rhea to see and love all of him. Events in the past caused Rhea to struggle with feelings of guilt; I am so proud of the way Alexandra Hale took on this storyline. Rhea is the one that holds her siblings together, she has supported all of them through their relationships and seeing them hold her up when she needed it was wonderful.

Alexandra Hale often talks about striving for balance. In this book she has achieved that. The dark moments of Sorren and Rhea’s struggles are balanced with the lightness of the family group chat, thirst traps and family bets that are starting to pay out.

I have fallen completely in love with this family and this town. The way they show up for family, every time, no questions asked makes my heart burst. The bonus epilogue was the icing on the most remarkable cake and had me reaching for the tissues once more.
I am sad to see the end of this series.

"I'm terrified. I've kept my need to be close to you in check, but if we do this, I'm gonna be obsessed with you."

Oh my word....Sorren was exactly as I had hoped he would be. He has been this mystery over the previous four books and his story is finally here! Sorren and Rhea have been dancing around each other for so long now that I didn't know how much longer I could wait for their story...lol!

Clementine Creek is the only "home" Sorren has ever known and he has spent his entire life protecting his sister Marlee. Well she is now married to his best friend and doesn't need him to protect her yet he has trouble falling out of the habit. He has his dark days and for that reason he is scared to go after who and what he wants....Rhea Thayer and a future with her.

Rhea has pretty much always known Sorren...ever since the day he moved in next door and became best friends with her brother Waylon. Upon him coming home from the military she has fallen into being "his person". The person who just provides him with company without speaking, takes him out to try and get his mind off of the darker places it goes to. Then the dynamics switch on her and he is giving her looks here and there and little touches now and again.

I absolutely love these two together. Learning their back story and how long they have been so close only proves they are meant to be together. Rhea is Sorren't guardian angel in physical form. The chemistry between them shows there is nobody else for the other.....never has been, they are it for each other.

Ms. Hale wrapped up this series perfectly with Sorren and Rhea. It had the signature family dynamics we have come to love over this series and the meaning of family really and truly showed up in this one. We are blessed with many, many group text threads between all the characters that had me giggling quite often! I cannot wait to see where she takes the upcoming spin off series!

Sorren is man full of trauma from head to tattooed calf. He's broody and back from the war. His childhood love is still here but could he really be there for her after the experience with his parents.

Rhea's always loved him, my brothers have always protected me but now it's time for me to protect someone else. Despite his reservations I will always be there for him.

Holy cow, y'all! This was such a cute book!!! Run and grab your copy of this!

Okay, full transparency here. I had not read all the other Clementine Creek novels so I was so confused for a hot second with so. Many. Characters!!! 🙈 I literally had to make a list with who was who lol. This is book 5 in the series so all these other stories had previously been told but it didn't matter that I hadn't read the rest, I got the gist of the other characters and I feel like this story wrapped up the series so nicely. And now I just HAVE to read the other 4 books.

This story follows Rhea and Sorren, lifelong friends who have been pinning after one another for years. This is a sloooowwwww burn, but the angst is so good. We get to learn more about Sorren and his internal struggles with adapting to civilian life after getting hurt in the military, trying to get a business off the ground and still trying to protect his sister from their parents - a burden he has carried on his shoulder since they were children.

I loved Rhea and her kindness and how she just wanted to help and make everything better, even when Sorren kept pushing her away. At times, I found myself frustrated with Sorren and wanted to just shake some sense in to him, like, "wake up and smell the cookies, bro!! She loves you!!" 😫🙄😆

Overall I loved, loved, loved the small town, found family trope. The last few chapters had me smiling from ear to ear when the town came together to stick up for their own.

Overall I really enjoyed this one and have added the rest of the Clementine Creek series to my never ending TBR.

This book has *attached itself to my mind and soul like a shadow I don’t want to shake.*

Review:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Forever in the Country by Alexandra Hale is Sorren’s story and the final piece of the Clementine Creek series. A series I *will forever get lost in the comfort of and love it every day and always*

I was a little nervous about this book for 2 reasons.

1) I have been anticipating Sorren from day 1 and hoped I didn’t over hype myself. (For the record, NEVER doubt the power of an AH book!)

2) Finishing it meant finishing the series (I’ll let you in on a secret. The book title says it all because I will be FOREVER in the Country of Clementine Creek)

This book started strong then in the middle stayed strong only to at the end remain strong!

I love Sorren and Rhea more than I thought I would. They are messy and sweet while being real and raw. They challenge each other and support each other. Oh and they are hotter than the spiciest sauce in a Hot Ones episode and you are left with no water or milk while your tongue hangs out and your sweating bullets trying to now touch your eyes.

Specifically I enjoyed the sanctuary of the bakery, the emotion of having favorite measuring cups, and the fact that these two read together.

Also the ever present interconnection of family and found family and greatness of the group text is here in full force.

I’ll leave you with a quote that was actually at the beginning, that hit home, made me laugh, and I know is a personal piece of a best friend of mine.

“I’m well past the give a fuck quotient of my night”

Alexandra is a genius. That is all.

Ok but really. I have been waiting for Sorren’s book this whole series! How fitting to leave him for last. I knew he’d be my super spicy brooding favorite… and this book DID NOT DISSAPOINT AT ALL.

First of all, THAT WINK. I know he learned it from Papa Thayer which is amazing in itself, but freakin swoon. Sorren is INTENSE. In all the right ways. The spice he brings to the table y’all! 😮‍💨 He had been through so much and held so much responsibility at such a young age for him and Marley following into adulthood, and held that burden all on his own, he just had to finally see he wasn’t alone. Clementine Creek was his home, and he had a whole family there.
And also- “Good. F$$$ing. Girl.” 🥵

And Rhea… she’s the glue that holds the whole of the Clementine Creek family together. She’s the home, the safe place, she’s everything. Shes independent and badass and always making sure everyone has a place. ❤️ She’s the perfect piece for Sorren, to help him feel the feelings he keeps buried deep down. They have chemistry and FIRE!

The business he opens is amazing, and perfect for him and Tanner in all the right ways. He found his purpose and it makes my heart so so so happy.

“He said we would never be ready. We could prepare until the cows came home but there would never be a ‘right time.’”

“Are we finally going to talk about what you have going on with tall, dark, and murderous?”

“Excuses are for boys, Sunshine, not men.”

HANK: “I don’t think shouty caps are necessary”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.✨/5 stars

forever in the country is the long awaited for conclusion to the clementine creek series. sorren’s time in the military was cut short after a career ending injury. he’s been back in clementine creek, the only place he’s ever called home, for a couple of years and the one person he finds himself wanting to be around is rhea. they’ve become friends over the years, but the line between friendship and more is crossed more often than not. rhea wants more but sorren doesn’t think he’s ready to give her more. when they finally become more something comes back from his past. is their new relationship strong enough to weather his not-so-secret past?

from the moment i started the clementine creek series i was counting down until sorren’s book. a gruff, scarred, grumpy hero who doesn’t think he’s good enough to be loved by the people around him??? give it to me now!!! i’m so glad that their romance was at the end because we got to watch them slowly fall in love with each other and taste the sweetest slowburn victory in forever in the country. rhea and sorren own such a big piece of my heart. i absolutely loved how their relationship showed them learning to communicate with each other and what it means to love someone who doesn’t think they deserve it. alexandra hale has such a talent for writing characters who have gone through the ringer but come out knowing they have a whole community of support. i do think that each romance throughout the series gave major soulmate vibes.

🔥Friends to Lovers

🔥Right guy, wrong time

🔥Brother's Best Friend

🔥Found Family

🔥Small Town

🔥Spicy

New beginnings; closing a chapter in their life and embracing a beautiful family that they’ve made in a new town. Gratitude, love and strength

This is a story about Sorren the best big brother and friend anyone could ever have! 🥰 My heart hurts for his sister having such terrible parents is the worst but that God for Sorren for stepping up and protecting her.

A marine who has to go on early retirement after suffering an injury overseas. He’s given his life to protect the ones he loves
His sister.
His country.
His hometown.

And now
Rhea Thayer his best friend’s little sister.
But she’s not so little anymore.
Rhea runs a bakery and she and Sorren have the best chemistry ever. Until she’s tired of being friend-zoned and demands that Sorren steps up and becomes the man she’s always wanted him to be “HER MAN”

He feels the same way for her even though he’s scared that he isn’t good enough for her. An unstoppable inferno rages between them. A need he knows he’ll never do without.

Rhea is so beautiful and independent. Her relationship with her brothers is the best
They are so supportive of her; you can feel their love for her as you read and the friendships between them and Sorren and how they support his relationship with their sister was the coolest thing ever.

Big Mama bless her…She has my heart! 🤍☄️ Not to mention Hayden being the cutest booklover ever! Their little bookclub with Sorren was everything.

My first book by Alexandra Hale 🤍❤️ and now i honestly wanna read lots more from her 🥰

Sorren and Rhea

Although this was the perfect book to end this series, I don’t want it to end! I could read an infinite amount of stories about the people of Clementine Creek and still want more. This series and this book were so well written and so diverse, I don’t think I could pick a favorite because I loved them all so much.

Sorren was the ultimate grump hiding a heart of gold. I loved the juxtaposition of the broody Marine veteran who read romance novels and gave relationship advice like a licensed therapist. He had so many layers. I loved the relationships he quietly built. I loved his bromance with the Thayer brothers and Hayden. I loved his partnership with Tanner. And I loved his love for Briggs.

Rhea was the perfect match for Sorren. She always knew exactly what he needed, and even though she did push him for their relationship, it turned out to be what he needed in that moment. I loved how she took care of her community and family in the same way Sorren did. I loved that she was the glue that kept the family going. But what I loved most about Rhea was her vulnerability with Sorren.

I loved the push and pull between Sorren and Rhea. I loved that Rhea vocalized what she needed from Sorren in their relationship and never let him off easy. Their love was the perfect way to wrap up this series since it had been in the background of every other book. I’m glad they finally had their time to shine.

I only discovered the Clementine Creek series over the summer and read them all late July/early August. But I quickly fell in love with the Thayer family and all the characters. Forever in the Country is Rhea and Sorren’s story. I’ve been waiting on this one and it did not disappoint! It is my favorite story, with all my favorite tropes. It’s a friends to lovers, brother’s best friend, pining for each other with the other being unaware, and it’s always been you.

These two complemented each other so well. Rhea was just what Sorren needed and vice versa. We could feel the chemistry right from the beginning. Rhea was just a sweetheart. Sorren has faced many difficult times in his life, but he loved Rhea with all of his heart. Loved that his nickname for her was Sunshine. Beautiful!

The spice hits early in this one. Sorren was quite the dirty talker and had Rhea and me blushing. But, we loved it! He knew just how she needed to be “loved”. 😉 My fav? The bakery scene 🥵 You could feel their chemistry in every scene.

Be sure to check the trigger warnings at the beginning because there are some heavy topics discussed, but they just made the characters more real and relatable.

I cried at the very end of this book. Be sure to read the bonus epilogue, because it is everything! I have loved this series so much!
