For anyone that has been following along recently, I read The Castle with the 1,000 Doors by Kenny Gould just a couple of weeks ago. I ended up chatting with Kenny a bit during and after completing that read. He let me know book two was wrapped up and was looking to release on July 18th. He offered me an ARC for another honest review. I was holding out for a format that flows better on my e-reader. He got it in my hands in plenty of time to get to before launch. So here we are as I've wrapped up book two Dungeon School.
Dungeon School was more of the same as far as style and expectations after reading book one recently. This continues to be a solidly entertaining series as King Crows continues to meeting new allies and enemies as well as cross paths with old ones as well. Book two did have some good twists along the way. Still plenty of action and puzzle solving to keep things fresh.
The pacing of this series so far is definitely on the fast side. There is some ground work laid out here and there to help support the story as it progresses but most of these books have been pedal to the metal! This isn't a bad thing as these have been great breaks for me from epic long reads. No issues with Kenny's writing style or vocabulary to trip me up. The humor is still wildly funny to me at times as well.
The world building was done well again. Obviously we've been through a couple of levels in book one. Dungeon School primarily takes place on a single level with layers to this world being explored. We learn quite a bit about the Tower School that King Crow and Jocko attend and a bit about one other, but not much regarding the other two. I like the fact that Kenny includes a bit of history to the Tower that we spend the majority of our time within for book two.
The character development was probably the strongest aspect for my tastes this time around. We get to see further growth for our protagonist but we also see some quick growth with some new characters in this installment as well. For such short reads I do find myself having solid connects not only to King Crow but many of the supporting casts as well.
At this point I think it's safe to say, Kenny is on my radar with the Toroth-Gol series and I look forward to seeing where things go from here!
I'd definitely recommend anyone who has had the chance to read book one of the series, to continue on with Dungeon School. If you haven't had a chance to try this series yet and you enjoy a good science fiction fantasy progression read, give this one a try. As I said they are quick easy reads with plenty of entertainment.

DUNGEON SCHOOL!!!
The team has officially made it to the second floor! Now it's time to split up and head to their respective schools to hone their skills. Each school specializes in a different craft, and instead of worrying about grades, the only thing that matters is making it out alive. Poor King Crow just wants to survive, level up, and hopefully uncover a few more answers along the way.
This was another absolute banger of a book! I was already hooked after the first one, and this sequel somehow managed to raise the bar. The world @theKennyGould is building is ridiculously creative, and every new floor introduces something completely unexpected. One minute you're laughing at Spud's ridiculous comments, and the next you're wondering how everyone is going to survive the latest disaster.
The chemistry between the characters continues to be one of my favorite parts of the series. The humor lands perfectly, the action is fast-paced, and there are enough mysteries sprinkled throughout that I constantly wanted to keep reading just to see what was around the next corner.
And can we talk about Spud for a second? I didn't think it was possible, but somehow I love that talking potato even more after this book. 🥔
The ending had me immediately wanting to pick up the next installment. These books have become the definition of "just one more chapter" for me.
READ THESE BOOKS!!! Seriously... just do it!!
If you're a fan of Dungeon Crawler Carl, LitRPGs, progression fantasy, or just want a wildly entertaining series that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering genuine stakes, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

My favorite characters ever, Spud and Perry, are back! Just like the first book, I found myself hooked from the very first page and couldn't put it down. Kenny Gould has an incredibly descriptive way with words, and you really feel like you're experiencing all of the magic and the chaos with the characters themselves. I absolutely love this series.
This book made me laugh out loud, it made me cry (I won't spoil why), and I cannot wait for book #3!!

The fun continues!
Kenny nailed it. I kept trying to guess how this book would go, and I was so wrong, lol. It was a school and I thought there'd be more to the classes, and it was set up that way, but then they only spend like a few pages actually doing lesson things (it fits though, it's fine, haha), which I'm GLAD about. The plot has more to do with the things that happen around this place.
I love the loot!

July 19, 2023I really enjoyed this book. I like this series. The world building is good, I’d like the information we got about the Denton school in this book. I also loved the new characters that we met. This book has a little bit more violent than the last one. I liked it. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them on the next level.

The journey continues. This has become a great experience as we read a little each evening. Crow’s challenges and lessons keep us entertained and we can’t wait to read on. In fact we have the next book ready to start tonight. GO SPUD SQUAD!!!!

What an awesome sequel to the original. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put the book down. Both books in the series were exceptional!

It’s gripping, it’s smart, it’s funny. I don’t usually get into fantasy but I really got into this. Could not put it down. Love where this series is going and can’t wait to read the next one

I loved this book! Another page-turner like the first of the serious, with plenty of action and humor. Kept me guessing until the very end, and I can’t wait for the next level of Toroth-Gol!

Strange
Once again a great story full of strange characters. Lost some favourite characters and gained other allies. And Spud and Perry finally get along sort of.

Another fun book. Kenny does a great job making you care about the characters and side characters. I was enthralled and read this book way faster than I meant to.

More fun than a Produce section!
Really loved the plot and the characters. A lot of adventure and trying to piece together where our intrepid heroes go. Spud squad gets an A+.

3.5 stars. Plot is a little loose, but I like the characters enough to keep reading.

This series has been fun. My only issue is that there is a lot of repetition regarding Crow's past, as well as Jocko and Crow calling each other "pacho." Overall, 3.9
