Dark Mate-Claim #3

Protector: Bound

Rate this book
I had it so wrong.
For three years I had him on his knees, subjugated to my will. All that lethal power mine to command.
I thought him tamed.
I didn’t know the man who played my captive all those years. I didn’t know what he was truly capable of.
Now I’m the one subjugated, dependent on his protection.
Hate me as he might, I know he’ll keep me safe. But the price?
My heart.

This is the 3rd and final of Nora’s Protector serial. Make sure you read part 1 - Rage - first.

I am Nora Ash, and I write a plethora of different romance books. Some of them are really dirty, some of them are only kinda-dirty, some are paranormal, some are contemporary… Basically, I have a rampant imagination and no way of controlling it, except from just writing down whichever idea pops into my head at the time.

The one thing my books always have in common, though? A great story and a guaranteed HEA.
If you’re ever in doubt about what you’re about to read, have a look at my book page. It has a flame rating for each series, so you know what you’re getting yourself into!

I’m originally from the cold North (AKA Scandinavia) but these days I live in rainy England with my amazing fiancé and our two pesty cats. When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, watching Real Housewives of Wherever (reality tv it’s my shameful addiction) or hiking in whatever bit of woodland I can find.

Three fun facts about me

I once ran away with a traveling circus
I’m bilingual. Almost-kinda trilingual, but my Spanish is terri-bad these days.
I’m a decent rider (English style only, though)

After Protector:Treachery,i knew i needed to find out the truth of why Maddie was the woman she was..
There hád to be a reason she hid behind the cold façade, the supposed uncaring act she put up.
And AX2,aka Jacob was the key to unlocking her true self.
What he discovered changed his opinion of her,and made him understand who she really was.
He’d give his right arm to make those responsible pay for what they’d done.
But they also needed to deal with a very bad situation first…..and that involved her father.
Would they be able to save the day…..and their budding relationship?

This was a fitting end to Maddie and Jacob’s story.
It did leave a few details open for future stories, but they got the happy after i was hoping for.

I really enjoyed this series a lot. It was dark, yes, but imo not nearly as dark as others that I've read from this author, or even other omegaverse stories in general. I really liked the characters and the fact that the gender roles were reversed from what I'm used to reading in enemies to lovers stories. Usually it's the guy who's the problem and has to have some kind of epiphany before he starts treating the woman right, but here it was the opposite and that really added something for me. I also thought the ending was really satisfying and everyone (pretty much) got what they deserved. Definitely my favorite story by this author.

I loved the whole story.🥰
Instead of the story being written in 3 books of the series,it should have been made into just 1 book as each book was short..but otherwise I have no complaints as it was a great story to read and the author writes so good..I will definitely read more books from this author 😁

Addie, the female omega lead, is trying to recover from the horror of realising that she’s both subject to Jacob (AX2), the male alpha cyborg lead, and that her father is part of coup leadership trying to overthrow the elected government and is using her cyborgs to do it.

Now that they’re bonded, they can feel each other’s feelings and Addie becomes horrified by what she inflicted on her patients/subjects whilst Jacob becomes infuriated by the trauma Addie has undergone that led to her choices regarding the cyborg program.

They need to work out how to proceed as a couple, who to support in terms of governance, and what to do in terms of the other cyborgs…

This story is dual POV, well written, and really packs a punch, especially given its only novella length. I enjoyed the complexity of the plot, concisely conveyed whilst the relationship continued to build, including the erotic intimate aspects. I enjoyed Addie’s dawning awareness, her genuine remorse, and her willingness to provide what compensation she could. I enjoyed Jacob’s care of her, even whilst he was angry, his consideration of her history once he became aware of it, and his vengeance on her behalf when it became possible. I enjoyed the other cyborgs, particularly AX1, and hope the author writes a sequel for him.

My feelings:

What an amazing ending! I was captivated right to the end.
AX2 is a whole other world that i would love to crawl into. Hot dam where do I get me one.

“You're my mate my monstrous wrath from goddess I will worship you until the day I die”

I really really enjoyed this series from start to finish. The last book is 176 pages making the whole series about 442 pages long.

“Unless it's falling off and you need to sew it back on you're not touching any dicks”

Each book was jam packed with action and drama with a healthy dose of smut in every single book.

“You’re not alone any more mate”

Highly recommend

Can’t say I enjoyed this last book in the Protector series. I found that a lot of the book was Addie feeling sorry for herself and Jacob (AX2) consoling her. I wish that there was more in depth writing on AX2’s processing of past harm caused by Addie instead of the narrative that all is forgiven just because of the mate bond. As far as MC’s go, Addie was pitiful and I found it difficult to see how someone so skilled was constantly seeking approval/acknowledgement from male figures in her life. I had hoped Addie’s characterization would improve on this book but that was not to be. I have enjoyed this author’s work in the past but this is my least favourite conclusion to a series by her.

We last left Addie and Jacob (AX2) bonded to each other, after Jacob rescued his “monster” doctor. He was compelled to mate with her after he killed the Russian alpha who raped and gave her a mating mark. Readers will find that this is not the first time she’s been used to further her father’s (General Thompson) ambitions. It was her father who knew the Russians kidnapped Addie and most likely orchestrated the ordeal. The general’s goal was to have his obstinate, contentious daughter submissive to his demands, so he could use her expertise of the AX project to his advantage…perpetrating a coup.

Book 3 begins with the overturning of the government and Jacob’s role in this conspiracy. Jacob didn’t even know his real name, because Addie wiped his memories when she reconstructed him from the brink of death. So he doesn’t know if he’s a traitor or not. The coup has been pulled off by her father, Dr. Green and the other AX soldiers, who are controlled by them. Addie is appalled at the carnage that she and Jacob witness in route to the White House. Civilians and Secret Service agents make up the casualties as well as the POTUS and the Senate. To become the Secretary of Defense, her father orchestrated the coup at the behest of the former VP, who is now the self proclaimed POTUS. Unimaginable!
Now that Jacob is mated to Addie, his biological drive is to protect her, but his emotional side is seeking the reason for her former cold, heartless facade…while Addie is struggling with relinquishing the defenses that have protected her fragile psyche. Will we find out who traumatized Addie when she was younger? What will Jacob do with that information? My favorite scene is what happens when Jacob does find out. It isn’t pretty.

This is not the usual alpha/omega verse with gratuitous smut (which I thoroughly enjoy on occasion). This is a sophisticated version of alphas and their fated mates. The author has rendered a unique romance surrounded by family betrayals, treachery, political intrigue, and military corruption. I have enjoyed this series and looking forward to more from this author. I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.

What a conclusion! Protector: Bound picks up where Protector: Treachery ended. The stakes of the country are higher, and AX2 learns more about his origin. Without giving spoilers, I really enjoyed these three books. The evolving of Addie was done so well. What we see in the first book is quite different in the last one. As you get to know her, there are a few Aha! moments that explain so much. We know about her father the general, and his plans. We also get to see more players in this quest for world domination. In this final book, you get to see more of the players, and also how the AX plans came to fruition. There’s lots of action, of course. The interactions between AX2 and Addie were some of my favorite. AX2 is total alpha, and I loved all of it!

Nora Ash packed a lot of story in this series. If you haven’t read this series, please heed the trigger warnings. This is a dark tale.

Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter were great, as usual with their narration.

Jacob and Addie have come a long way. There’s a coup in the works and Addie is having so many revelations. Jacob has really stepped into his role as protector and realizes Addie has changed. She is redeemable and he’s more than a machine. I couldn’t imagine how Nora Ash would get me to like Addie. What a horrible, cold person she’s been and even though she’s done monstrous things, I actually ended up on her side. This book has so many twists and turns and you will love it. The plot thickens around her father and the plans for the AX soldiers. Revelations come to light and they’re racing to save the country. I absolutely loved this amazing finale.

This series was beautiful. I was not disappointed at all. I the growth between the characters and especially love Jacob was profound. He went through all the steps from wanting to kill Adelaide all the way to loving her. Whereas Adelaide fought tooth and nail to understand her mate is a man and her role as his mate. I must say I love the back story we get about Adelaide and Jacob. It explains so much and helps to understand them so much better. What I love most is that Jacob gets to finally gets justification for his mate. Above all I love that Adelaide wanted to sacrifice herself to bring joy to her mate without knowing that he truly loves her.

What a spectacular conclusion to this journey taken by Addie and Jacob. We finally learn why Addie allowed herself to grow so cold and hateful towards Alphas, and it is heartbreaking and when she realises why she has treated Jacob the way she has she breaks down and the guilt almost consumes her. And as for Jacob, he is so angry on her behalf but instinctively understands what she needs to assuage her guilt but the truth sets both of them free of the baggage that has been holding their relationship back and I loved it. But what I loved more is the story of how they all banded together to right wrongs of the past and bring the AX units into a place of freedom.

The story picks up after the surprise revelation at the end of Protector: Treachery. We find Addie trying to come to terms with her father’s actions and dealing with her conflicting emotions concerning AX2. Can she trust him when he says he’ll never hurt her, especially after…

I enjoyed the conclusion of this dark, enemies-to-lovers, Sci-Fi, Omegaverse serial. The story is well written with plenty of drama, some twists and several dark themes, along with an Alpha/omega dynamic and explicit, MF sex, featuring knotting.

Perfect ending to the series - assuming it's the end. AX2/Jacob's journey to recovering his humanity is deftly handled by Nora Ash - as is his support for Adde to heal, grow and trust again. Ohh the scene where Jacob works out why Addie is the way she is - it's so beautiful and emotional and raw.
Very quick read - as this is effectively a serial novella - I read it in one evening and went to sleep content in their story. Thanks Nora - for a great adventure!.

I really enjoyed the storyline and characters! The story behind the US and alphas ended abruptly. It just needed more detail about how the alphas helped fix the democracy.

Maybe the "fated" "mate" concept is explained further in the 1st alpha series but it wasn't fully explained in this series. Though I do like the concept!.

The ending of the trilogy was nicely wrapped but I still feel there are a couple of things left to be answered. Nevertheless, the book is great and I'm happy Addie was finally able to work through her issues and got her HEA with Jacob. I would love to read about the side characters from the AX group as I felt they needed their own story.

~*~ Audiobook Review ~*~ This is the final book in the Protector trilogy and must be read in order. Bound has flipped the script with Addie realizing the extent of her mistakes and the damage done. Jacob is learning more about his past and what made Addie the way she is. Everything is on the line as they deal with the aftermath & chaos of their current circumstances while trying to understand each other and what their new dynamic means to who they are. This is a DARK omegaverse series with some serious topics and potential triggers. If you love the dark omegaverse and romantic thrillers, this series is perfection!

Nora had me with Jason & Stella - before I even knew what the story was about I was all in. The RIGHT performers absolutely hold the power to bring layers to deeply complex characters that could otherwise be interpreted through the lens of a different kind of darkness...IMHO Every breath in the right place matters! So very dark, so very beautiful, and so very well done!!

There is so much tension in the scene that there were times that I held my breath, it started to feel like I was third wheeling. I honestly love how the relationship between Addie and Jacob started off at a shimmer and just built up as the story progresses, it was a far cry from how there where in the beginning of the series and I am happy for them. I hope to see more of AX1 but we shall see how everything goes ~.

I’ve waited for this book…Looking, waiting, and anticipating the finale to this twisted, semi-dark, omega-verse story… was it worth it? Hells bells, Yes!! Am I decidedly depressed that AX2’s story is complete? Hells bells, yes!!! Have my alpha male standards risen so high, I’m likely to make it to Mars before I find my AX2???? Heavens bells! YES!!!YES!! YES!!!🚀🪐.

Is it weird that I didn’t want Addie to have a redemption arc? I wanted her reasons for being such a cold, stone bitch to just be part of who she was. I wanted the couple to find their way to loving the other for what they could mean to each other, not because the reasons for Addie’s monstrosity were so horrifically traumatic that they were ultimately forgivable. It was a bit of a cop out.

I still loved it though 😁

So glad to read the final installment of this great series. I fell even more in love with Jacob. In spite of all the abuse he suffered, at Addies hands, he is kind and a very good person. In this book we learn about the trauma in Addies past which contributed to her becoming an abusive monster. I loved rhe book and the series. But, to be honest, Addies past did not explain away how.awful she was. She is lucky she found her true mate in Jacob and rest he could forgive her.

Satisfying ending for the trilogy. Jacob, aka AX2, and Addie have bonded and Jacob is certain that they are a Fated match. Addie is not so sure but still can't resist him. The reason behind the AX project is revealed and Addie gets the opportunity to redeem herself. What she has endured in her past is finally admitted to Jacob accounting for her actions in regard to the AX men. Jacob it turns out has a gentle loving side and Addie is the beneficiary. Good entertaining read!

She was so cold-hearted there was no way I thought I would ever respect or like her. But I was proven wrong. I now understand why she was that way. It doesn't make it right. But I understand all the same. Thank God for a compassionate Alpha that was able to see pass all the damage.
