About the author

Kenji Tsuruta (in Japanese, 鶴田謙二) is a Japanese manga artist. Among his most famous works is the science fiction series Spirit of Wonder, which has been adapted into an anime series and brought him much acclaim.

During his years in university as a student of optical science, Tsuruta, initially wanting to be a photographer, encountered works of Yukinobu Hoshino, which had inspired him to create manga. Soon after graduating, he wrote numerous dōjinshi and was an assistant to many manga artists, prior to making his debut as a professional manga artist in 1986.

Tsuruta received the 31st, 32nd, and 44th Seiun Awards for outstanding artist of the year in 2000, 2001, and in 2013. He also received the Hayakawa Award for best illustrator in 2000.

I enjoyed reading this manga nonetheless I thought of it as a confusing read. The story is very short and I think the plot is a little bit of a mess. The detective story actually left more questions open than it solved. The ending felt really out of place and I hope the sequel will clear up various things.

Art

Seriously, I loved the artwork and that is my major reason why I decided that I want to read another work by this author. The style is very realistic and so detailed. I especially loved the few colored pages. This graphic novel portrays naked female bodies, so when you do not wanna see those, reading this is not recommended.

Setting

The manga is set in Venice, Italy and honestly I really loved the detail of the backgrounds and the landscapes. It was really nice and different to read for once a manga that was not set in Japan, but in Europe.

Characters

I actually was a fan of he MC, because she felt so real. She was very lazy, but also a very intelligent woman trying to solve a family case she looses hope to be able to finish it. She was flirty and stubborn and I really enjoyed her overall. (She loves cats and has a cat and I adore that)

There were a few more characters, but they had not such an important role in my opinion. Furthermore, the manga was really short so there was not point to introduce many characters anyway.

This one left me quite torn, the artwork featuring VEnice is stunning, full of detail and just perfect. The story however left me feeling at times that the story was NOT to be read from back to front as I felt I was missing a lot of basic detail, but that was just the way the story was told. It got a lot better towards the end and bit by bit the questions were answered.
I hope my library has the following parts as well.

Rien à dire sur les dessins, comme d’hab avec Kenji Tsuruta mais l’histoire…Je ne sais pas, surtout qu’il y’a des scènes où je n’étais pas à l’aise du tout, surtout à la fin avec ses sœurs BREF, c’était du fan service pur et dur je pense.

Sinon, dans ce manga on suit l’histoire de Mariel qui est détective privée, elle hérite d’une enquête à propos d’un vol de tableau appelé « Forget-Me-Not ». Nous suivons Mariel sur diverses enquêtes qui lui permettent d’arriver à son enquête principale.

Je n’ai pas accroché tant que ça, contrairement à la série Emanon dont je suis très fan…c’est sûrement à cause du caractère en général de Mariel, des scènes bizarres etc…mais au moins les dessins rehaussent un peu la chose !

Cela faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas lu de manga.
Après en avoir lu beaucoup, pendant très longtemps (j'avais une belle collection - beaucoup ont été donnés depuis) j'ai aussi arrêté pendant longtemps. ça ne me manquait que très épisodiquement. Avant hier, à la bibliothèque, j'ai (re)vu celui-ci, dont la couverture bleue et les aquarelles sont invitantes, et l'ai pris.
C'est l'occasion de me rappeler pourquoi je ne lis plus de manga. Je ne me fais plus aux ellipses et aux non-dits sur les pensées et le passé et le caractère des personnages alors que certains éléments sont soulignés avec force (comme ici, cette détective aux capacités de déguisement incroyables : chaque fois qu'elle détrompe un autre personnage en lui avouant qui elle est, on peut être sûr-es que l'on aura droit à un plan sur sa poitrine généreuse... Juste au cas où le lecteur n'aurait pas compris ou aurait des doutes...)

Alliant cette fois petite variation romanesque sur la thème des détective-voleur dans une Venise intemporelle et dessins dignes d'un artbook, Tsuruta offre un beau et sympathique moment de détente décalé, amusant, nonchalant, à l'image de son héroïne ici. C'est simple mais original et savoureux, cela aurait pu continuer longtemps tant l'efficacité y est de mise. Mais on ne lui reprochera pas de s'en être tenu là, tant il s'est perdu en déliquescence en voulant faire durer et durer ses héroïnes d'Emanon quelques années plus tard. Finalement le format court est celui qui lui convient le mieux et on ne s'en plaindra pas !

La puta madre, qué quilombo. CREO que hay una historia potable destrás de todo esto, pero los diálogos están tan mal escritos y es todo tan confuso que ni idea. No sé si la traducción ayudará. Además a veces los personajes se parecen demasiado y encima muchos se disfrazan... Eso sí, el dibujo es magistral, Venecia al detalle, las ropas y los gestos son bellísimos. Pero no alcanza. Ni salió un #2, ¿no?

inquestionavelmente a arte é meu principal motivo para querer ler tudo o que o mangaká já publicou! o enredo, no entanto, é um pouco confuso e deixa mais questões em aberto do que de fato as resolve. os personagens, além da arte, foram outro lado positivo da leitura. para mim, o grande problema é ser uma história curta, tem um plot interessante o suficiente pra ser uma série de +100 capítulos mas foi desperdiçado. no final, me deixou com um sentimento triste de quero mais. 3,5⭐

Kenji Tsuruta is a real lover of the female form, a connoisseur of curves, a man of taste. The plot doesn't matter, what matters is the beautiful images and what they invoke in the reader (love me some watercolor pages!).

Tsuruta da solo non è in grado di scrivere una storia. Gran peccato, perchè è forse il più grande disegnatore vivente.
E alla fine, anche se le storie non avevano un gran senso, sarei rimasto a Venezia con la detective Imari ancora un po'.

Es muy corto, pero sigue siendo muy interesante. En si es tu historia detectivesca pero con ciertos giros medio extraños. No es la mayor pieza de misterio que yo haya leido pero sigue siendo algo bueno para pasar el rato. Bonita pequeña experiencia. El arte esta god tho.

Je l'ai trouvé compliqué à suivre car des personnages changent souvent d'apparence (cela a un lien avec l'histoire) mais cela est trop pénible. Il aurait fallu développer un peu plus certains moments pour rendre la lecture agréable.
