A PLACE TO RETURN― NOT FOR THE RAELIANA McMILLAN WHO WAS…BUT FOR ME.
Raeliana is putting on her detective cap! Set on unraveling the secrets behind her strange reincarnation, she starts digging into original-Raeliana’s past―which happens to entail an extended leave from the duke’s mansion. In light of her recent rejection of Noah’s advances and Justin Shamal’s persistent flirtations, this investigation may be just what she needs. Little does she know, the fated meeting between Beatrice and the duke has finally come to pass! With plot point after plot point from the novel playing out, will Noah’s heart join in following destiny’s script…?
His holiness truly cares for Raeliana, and Noah will do anything to keep her safe. I hope they can figure out what to do to help her stay in their world. And I hope she can learn to trust Noah with her heart.
I feel there is SO much to unpack with this volume so I'm going to break up my thoughts by the chapters because there is so so so much I loved!!
First, "Grandpa" has really rubbed off on me! I really didn't like him at first but his relationship with Raeliana is so special and definitely made me tear up at one point because he really is filling that role in her life. He's crazy and childlike often, but his love and affection for Raeliana is so sincere! I desperately hope that he can help Raeliana with the things they are discovering and wondering!
Which leads to my next point! The mystery that is looming over Raeliana and her search for answers. I find it interesting that she has ZERO memory of the previous Raeliana. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing, but the answers point to "not good" at the least. I hope things that the previous Raeliana did really doesn't affect our current wonderful Raeliana because I need her to see that she is loved for HER, not the PAST her. This is especially true between things with her and Noah.
And I am SO glad and grateful that he is pursuing her! The romance felt a tad lacking, but ONLY because Raeliana is "fighting" him so hard. (Girl, stop fitting him!!!) I absolutely loved loved loved all the moments with him and the things he said to her! His affection for Raeliana is also genuine and truly hope that Raeliana will return his affections because it's obvious that she cares for him too.
But GAH! The commander! I REALLY like his character and just need him to be in some other manhwa and have a happy ending that does NOT involve our ship (because that ship MUST sail)! LOL! He's a fantastic character and so kind (and super cute too!), but he does not hold a flame to Noah and really want him gone as much as it hurts to say that. LOL!
Lastly, WHAT WAS THAT CLIFFHANGER! GAH! These endings always leave me wanting to read ahead online, but telling myself to refrain because I always love the opportunity to binge read these volumes so much! LOL!
Random favorite moments: The night market and seeing Raeliana totally slay (LOL), Raeliana totally not knowing what to do when the Duke says how he misses/wants her, Sir Whitton and how expressive he is, and Noah coming to the tea party.
Overall, hoping for Raeliana to come around, her find more answers, and that she can be happy without worry! <3 Another fantastic volume!
Okay, this volume felt more cohesive. Raeliana and Noah’s moment remain very cute, buts it’s not quite enough for me to forget how meh the plot execution has been. I forgot Noh even got his first glimpse of Beatrice in at the beginning because it was so irrelevant. Curious as to the cliffhanger fallout.
This series is so interesting! I am not sure how it will end and the mystery continues! Raeliana is using her background knowledge to help avert crisis. Also is Beatrice a villain???? Ah Noah!! Hilarious side characters. :D
This series will never be anything but five stars for me. Second time reading and it's still got me kicking my feet with glee?? absolute masterpiece, 10/10
Accidentally reread this volume because for some reason I'd looked at my Goodreads list and thought I'd stopped at Volume 4. I was wildly confused when I got to the Justin + the ring scenes and started suffering through some serious deja vu...
It was a good one to reread, though, especially since I'd fallen massively behind, and can now plunge through the full series in one go now.

Ahhh I loved this one! And now it's absolute misery because it's going to take forever to wait for the rest.
The political stuff is still a little bit muddy, but there's at least a clear villain this time, and more details emerging about all the plots that Noah and the king have been wrapped up in. After all, that's how Raeliana bargained her arrangement with Noah to begin with - by knowing about the hidden royal seal and some of the moving parts in various families' split loyalties.
I really have no idea what was going on with the original Raeliana and the dark arts, or how much she was involved in all these underworld dealings. Is there a reason the new Raeliana ended up in her body, specifically? There's a lot more thought going into this plotline than I was expecting, honestly, since it's a common enough trope.
Less important question: I wonder if Raeliana will end up working in the royal library. The exhausted librarian made a point of how overworked and in need of help he is, and that would be right up her alley.
I'm not loving Noah's flash of fate-recognition when he bumped into Beatrice in the night market - did she do that intentionally? - but he's still utterly in love with Raeliana, and I simply don't see that changing. Do love the ache of him being convinced he's fighting a losing battle with her, but staying loyal and kind regardless.
One particularly impactful piece of this volume was the idea of home. Raeliana goes "home" to her parents' house for a few days, to try to investigate the missing memories she has of the original Raeliana, but finds herself feeling pretty out of place there. She knows the people, but it's not where she actually grew up or where she belongs.
But when she goes back home with Noah - who makes a surprise appearance to support her mother in her attempts to show up the snobby, patriarchal nobility - she finally realizes that it is her home. Noah, this house, these rooms, the paintings...all of it is something she chose for herself, and the memories are entirely hers.
It's a pretty big realization. And it will make it that much harder for her to walk away, as she still thinks she has to do.
Really wish I could get my hands on the rest of the series right away, but I'm definitely looking forward to the next one now.
