Is Home Really the Best Place?

Rate this book
Laugh your way through this hilarious look at family life. Is Home Really the Best Place? Many people will say yes, but when you have a family like Gary’s, you will probably say no.
Forty-seven-year-old Gary is a fanatic supporter of Superstars United football Club. His mood and temper depend on the success of Superstars United. When his favorite team wins, Gary becomes generous with his money, much to the delight of his children, and his libido rises, much to his wife’s delight. When Superstars United lose a game, the opposite happens, to the dismay of his wife and children.
Forty-year-old Joyce, Gary’s wife, is obsessed with cooking. She believes she is the best cook in the world although she is a disaster in the kitchen. She expects every member of her family to enjoy everything she cooks.
Gary and Joyce have five children.
Twenty-one-year-old Fred, their eldest child, is a loafer who believes he will soon be a millionaire. He spends most of his time chasing his elusive dream. He is the only member of the family who enjoys Joyce’s cooking.
Eighteen-year-old Nyasha is a lovesick girl who is in a never-ending search for the man of her dreams. She believes she will soon find Mr Right.
Fourteen-year-old Rachel is very religious and she always reads her Bible. She is self-righteous and has a Biblical verse to comment on everything that happens in the family home.
Sam, Rachel’s twin brother, is very rude and takes delight in insulting people.
Five-year-old Alvin, better known as Big Cheeks, is a result of a contraceptive blunder. He is very inquisitive and speaks his mind.
As they go on with their everyday lives, the seven members of this family will unwittingly make you laugh.

I fell in love with writing while I was at school. I quit my job as a graphics designer to concentrate on my writing. I believe that restricting myself to a genre will limit my creativity. If I get a good idea for a story, I will go for it whether it is sci-fi, crime, children's or paranormal.

I am currently working on a political sci-fi thriller I call "Electronic Gags", which I hope to finish in January.

This book is hilarity personified. If you want a good laugh, and who doesn't, you'll love this story. It is a real tonic. It’s a quick read that generates a very human side of family life. Sometimes I wasn’t laughing at the characters as much as I was at myself. Maybe a little predictable at times but it allowed me to relate to the situations as they presented themselves.. as a parent, a wife and a sister. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to my family and friends. You won't be disappointed.

This novel reads like a sitcom. I could almost hear the audio laughter when the family members spoke to each other at times. It was a funny book, which I enjoyed, yet I have to admit that at times I felt like the story dragged a bit. I would still be interested in reading the second volume and seeing what Gary, Joyce and their children are up to. The mixture of personalities within the family was quite interesting.
