This title is a compilation of Voodoo Dues, Vampire Blues, the Voodoo Dues companion and two additional Lian and Figg shorts.
Voodoo Dues - From the beginning of Figg’s employment, there is something not quite right about the bar. There are few customers, a parade of neighborhood psychics and pentacle adorned visitors, all coming to hold court with her enigmatic boss. Figg is not sure what is going on, but she is determined to find out!
When the local voodoo queen shows up, and the next morning her grandson ends up dead outside the bar things get interesting.
Figg pesters Lian into telling her the truth about his former life, and is thrust into a world where the things that go bump in the night are real. There’s a murder to solve, zombies to lay to rest and a villain that neither of them saw coming.
Vampire Blues - Lian and Figg are still recovering from events that almost destroyed their lives, but when a good friend comes to them with a serious problem, they can't turn him away. Soon, Lian and Figg are neck-deep in local vampire politics and framed for a massacre they had little to do with. On top of that, the local werewolf pack is sniffing around, looking for favors.
Raised on a healthy mix of Scooby Doo and Dark Shadows, it's no surprise that she grew up writing about the things that go bump in the night. Stephany Simmons is the author of Voodoo Dues, Vampire Blues and the upcoming Black Magic. She crafts an urban fantasy series filled with magic, mayhem, and a touch of humor. With a passion for creating rich, supernatural worlds and unforgettable characters, Stephany draws readers into thrilling adventures where the ordinary meets the extraordinary. She finds great joy in turning convention on its ear, twisting tropes and adding her own spin to conventional ideas. When she’s not writing, she’s usually exploring thrift stores, studying folklore, or working on her skoolie.
I'm SO glad I picked this book up. The only complaint I have, is that they were novellas & shorts. I can't WAIT to get my next Lian & Figg fix. This is the way Urban Paranormal Fiction should b done. Whoever the fool was that told the author that ppl want Urban fiction to "fade to black" during sex scenes was an idiot or a prude. I DON'T wanna read Paranormal Romance, but kicka@@, paranormal fiction, w/ 1 or 2 hot sex scenes is GREAT!! The characters play so well off each other. Maybe I get Figg so well, cuz we're around the same age, (I think) & she's a Texan, well Texan by way of Florida. She fits right in w/ her brassiness, her arsenal & give'em hell attitude. Lian w/ his, "I've been thru some things" & now I just wanna seclude myself ways, comes outta his shell, largely b/c of Figg. His lean, swimmers body is sexy & he has scars. I have a thing for scars, so u might not find that sexy, by I sure do. Carl rounds the cast of characters out nicely, masquerading as a Drag Queen fortune teller, is hilarious. He's doin that to hideout from bad guys. Carl really has the gift tho & carries the spirit of a gay, man named Boyd, who died in the 70's from a coke overdose. The creative & cleverness these stories have r a delight & I cant wait to read the next book. Also there's a Vampire named Skip but I wasn't that crazy about him. If u get this book, u won't b disappointed.
This is actually a package including the first two books in the Liam & Figg series, a recent short story and a new novella.
I re-read the first two again, still an enjoyable read for me, and found the new novella a delight as well. I simply enjoy the characters ... the returning ones stay amusing and the new ones are always different and intriguing.
The inclusion of both Liam & Figg as associate members of R.U.M.P. (Ruling Union of Magic Practitioners) seemed an entirely appropriate ending.
