“…an excellent addition to your vampire library.” —AIPT
Hundreds of years before a comet hit Earth and created a cold, dark world ruled by vampires…
A wandering Roman centurion saved a woman from being sacrificed by druids. Honor bound to return Fionnuir to her homeland, Rook embarked on a journey across ancient Britain, where all manner of human and inhuman creatures dwelled…but none more dangerous than the demon he’d sworn himself to.
From creator TRAVIS BEACHAM (Pacific Rim) and artist ANDREA MILANA (Dahlia in the Dark) comes a new official prequel to the hit Audible Original.
Impact Winter: Rook by Travis Beacham and Andrea Milana hit stands on Jul 19, offering a prequel story to the hit series of the same name. For those who don’t know the series (which was me before I read this), Impact Winter takes place after a comet has struck earth and rendered the land cold and barren. Now the land is ruled by vampires and squads of soldiers fight to defend it. In this prequel we get some back story on the to main characters, Darcy and Barusch (aka Rook). I’m not a huge fan of vampire stories but I really enjoyed the world building here as well as the love story between vampire and human. It hooked me enough to want to check out the original series. It’s a nice mix of apocalyptic fantasy and blood sucking adventure.
A dark beautiful journey. It feels like a show you would stumble upon one night, binge it all and be satisfied with what you watched. It translates more for the visual than physical but still an enjoyable experience.
Another excellent installment, even if the art is not as good as in the previous one, but entirely decent. I am also a sucker for Roman era stories in the fringes of the empire. I also like seeing the beginnings of powerful characters, illustrating the shift that said power brings upon them.
I am not entirely happy with the ending regarding Fin's creator, as it doesn't hold much water inside the comic's logic, but it's not a really big gripe for me.
This short graphic novel tells the origin story of Rook, and gives a glimpse into the history going on behind the scenes of the Impact Winter series. A must-read for fans, it explains a lot of backstory and develops a couple of key characters further, and is an engaging story on its own as well.
