All Jonathan Murphy ever wanted was to work hard, love his wife, raise his children, and die a peaceful death. What life dealt him is the exact opposite. In the space of a mere instant, the life he once knew – the life he wanted – is no more. In its place, he is given great strength and immortality; but it comes with strings. Strings that bind him to the sylphs and other humans, whom he must protect against those who destroyed the life he once knew – the Fae. Along with his partners, Thomas and Kathryn, he works faithfully and tirelessly enforcing the laws of the Zie to please his queens. But a time is coming where he may have to revert to his barbaric ways of dispensing justice, even if it means killing a former lover.

I am in love with this series!! Amazing new author, this is only her second book & DAMN!! Fast paced, action packed, unique story (which is killer!) with fantastic characters. I have to admit, in the first book I was all about Thomas. But I will say that Jonathan has now moved into my head ;) So so glad this series & this author came onto my radar. Wicked fun, cannot wait for the next book =)

As an Immortal, it is Jonathan Murphy's responsibility to ensure the safety of the sylph and humans; to protect them from other Fae, such as the vampires and shapeshifters. His closest companions (also Immortals), Thomas and Kathryn, are always by his side as they work together to police these dangerous Fae.

'Enchanted Immortals 2: The Vortex' focuses on Jonathan Murphy's character; the man he once was to the Immortal he is now. As a human he was living a humble family life as a carpenter and his story is full of love, romance, wonder, action and heartache. He is a strong man, making plans for his future. However, that future was not to be. Well, at least not the way he thought it would be.

From early on in the novel there are very exciting action scenes which open up the readers' eyes. These action scenes, and those throughout the novel, are very dark, dramatic, quick-paced, detailed and intense. At the same time they are violent and gorey in parts. We can imagine how dangerous the vampires and shapeshifters are, at the same time as being completely shocked at their very existence. This enables the reader to empathise with Jonathan's character from the beginnning as he becomes involved with events that are otherwise unbelievable.

Whilst certain shapeshifters are being searched for by Jonathan and his friends, the vampires are planning their next venture. And it was reading this scene that my heart began to race, as one vampire asks about what they are to do next and the reply is, "We're going back to the Oregon Vortex". The reader stops in their tracks at this point, knowing that there is a great deal of trouble to come.

There are so many areas of the 'Enchanted Immortals' series that I love, one of them being the flashbacks. In this novel, we follow the journey of Jonathan in the present day, we are taken back to the early 1800's when he is human and in-between we find out more about Kathryn and Thomas' relationship with him. The reader also has an insight into what happened when Thomas became an Immortal and Thomas' relationship with Malina, a sylph Queen.

I, personally, find the sylphs adorable. They all seem very beautiful and feminine. They are caring and loving towards the Immortals, humans and each other. However, they still have to be realistic when bearing the vampires and shapeshifters in mind. Therefore, at times when protecting their allies and friends they have no choice but to harm their enemy.

It was the sylph's that began the existence of the Immortals with a potion they call 'Enchantment'. This potion allows the Immortals to be very strong and each Immortal to have their own ability. In 'The Vortex' the reader discovers the history and origin of this magical potion.

The whole novel has a great storyline, with really likeable characters, action and adventure. 'Enchanted Immortals 2: The Vortex' has simply everything that you would want to read in a fantasy/paranormal novel. As mentioned in my review of C.J. Pinard's debut novel, 'Enchanted Immortals', the style of writing is somewhere in-between that of Laurell K. Hamilton (Meredith Gentry series) and J.R. Ward (Fallen Angels), leaning more towards the J.R. Ward style. I am looking forward to reading the next instalment.

We met Jonathan Murphy in book one of the Enchanted Immortals series and in The Vortex we finally get to read about his story. A story of love, loss, friendship, and loyalty

We jump from when he is first given the option to become an Immortal in 1809 to the present time. We also get glimpses of his life in the 1940’s. Jonathan’s story tugged at my heartstrings. The choices he has made, the amount of pain he’s gone through with love, family, and the reason why he moved to America from England were gut-wrenching.

Even though the majority of the book is Thomas’s story there are still the side stories. The love story of Thomas and Malina, the Sylph, the shifters and the vampires who believe they have found a way to walk in the sun. We are also introduced to a new Immortal, a doctor.

What a wonderful world Ms. Pinard has created for us. I’m hooked and I’m enchanted by her writing. I can’t wait for more, a lot more. I imagine there are many more stories to come.

*I was given this book for an honest review but the opinions are my own and didn’t affect my rating.*

Ms. Pinard has outdone herself in this second book of Enchanted Immortals, I couldn't believe it was possible, but this book is even more enthralling than the first one, the level of permanent suspense, the coming and going into the characters' past and then back to present, watching them evolve and grow, learning how they got to be who they are. An amazing read that has, impossible as it may seem, enchanted me even more than the first book. Jonathan's story is heartbreaking and yet inspiring while Thomas is still making his story, his life hasn't been half as long as Johnathan's. Learning about Sheena, Emma and all the Sylphs, being able to read about Malina's mother. Time is of the essence in this book, but not as we know it, it's life. The author has found the way to take us through time showing us everything we need to see and know. She also takes us through space, covering every aspect of every part of the story, I couldn't avoid feeling part of it, part of the magic that surrounds these characters giving them life, I was completely enchanted, not immortal though. ;)

As I ventured into this second book, I just knew that there would be more excitement. I was right! This one really is more about Jonathan. I really really love how the author writes this amazing story, present and past all wrapped into one. My heart really goes out for Jonathan in this book. The wonderful, but sad ending to his life before he came to the States. He never got to make that choice of whether or not he'd continue drinking the "immortal cocktail", as I choose to call it. Finding out how he got to know "the panther", was well needed. Many questions answered, but a few still remain. Total shocker at the end! All I could think about was Jonathan's prior life. And as much as I love Jonathan, I'm still Team Thomas!! Very good read!

Having loved the first book of the series, I decided to give book 2 a go. And wow! If the first book was great, this one is even better. The Vortex focuses on the life of Jonathan, an Immortal, and a once carpenter and family man. This second novel is full of action, romance and gets deeper into the world of the Zie and the power struggle between the Zie’s queen and the will of the Immortals. I can tell that Ms. Pinard is here to stay! And I can’t wait to read book 3!

Just as fun and interesting as the first book in the series. It was great getting to know more of Jonathan's past. I love how the author builds suspense by changing time periods and stories.

This is the second book in this series and they need to be read in order. This book focuses more on Jonathan and how he became an immortal as well as continues the present-day story. Jonathan has been an immortal for a long time. His story is both action packed and a little sad. I love that this series is so different from any of out there. I can’t say enough about this series and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. The characters in this book are so good. It makes me wish I could live in this series. Great job C.J. Pinard.

The Vortex

I still have a problem with the going back and forth in time but all and all a good book. I found that I like all the characters even some of the bad guys.
