Summer seemed to be over in a blink of an eye yet also felt like forever since we got the last Saga issue before the summer break. But we are finally back! And all I have to say is…
GHÜS!
Untitled
For real though, nobody gets to hurt Ghüs or I’ll…well I guess just be sad and read on anyways but I WON’T LIKE IT. This was another very quick issue but it did have some great moments and…*looks around cautiously*…I think we got through it unscathed? I kind of love the good guys getting a rare win and most importantly we got more Ghüs. And a funny flashback of Gale being a teenage dork. Did I mention there’s Ghüs?

There's also the top 10 winners of the Saga costume contest, which were all really impressive and cool and the winner definitely went all out, way to go I laughed hard when I got to that.

I can just imagine BKV’s mom just yelling “BRIAN K VAUGHN I SWEAR I DON’T KNOW WHO RAISED YOU!” after reading this. Because lord let me tell you, all us readers collectively gasped at the shit he just tried to pull.

Read as part of Volume 11. Refer to Volume 10 (which consists of issues #61-66) for my full review.

Some preliminary thoughts (before I write my full review for the volume):

- This issue starts with a flashback from when Alana and Gale knew each other (in which she was a total bitch to him - and that's why I try to be nice to everyone. You never know if the person you were mean to ends up being a deadly killer...)

- GHUS IS BACK YAAAAYYYYYY! Extra star just for the return of Ghus.

- Oooh, potential rehabilitation for Gale.

I hate these filler graphic novels. I don’t get what this does to progress the story.

Every time I read one of these issues of Saga, I am an anxious mess. I care about so many characters and am terrified of something happening to them. But I made it through this issue with only a slightly raised heart rate.

There are some beautiful quotes in this one, and I’m impressed with how the characters continue to weave in and out of the story. There is a return of a character favourite or two and lots of action!

I was a little frustrated by the delay of this issue, but now that I have read it, I am content. The costumes shown at the back of the issue were also fantastic!

Now, I must be patient and wait for the next arc to start.

The return of Ghus!!!

I am happy!

Another hiatus after this one, so at least there was decent substance here to play with.

Will never fault the artwork.

“Breaking certain patterns can be… challenging. Especially for someone suffering from the disease that afflicts [redacted], me, our entire culture. We’re addicted to violence.”

This was a surprisingly insightful and lovely issue, all things considered.

Getting to catch up with some old friends and learning a bit more about these characters's motivations is always a delight, especially when they connect with the themes of the story so beautifully.

Honestly, I never thought we would see some of these faces again, so it was a welcomed surprise.

“I realized that – hard as it may be to accept – even someone like [redacted] has people who love her deeply. Executing her only would have brought them gunning for me and everyone else I care about. So instead, I decided to break the cycle.”

Definitely not my fav installment in the series. Our main characters were all absent in this issue and not a whole lot happens. Looking forward to more action and plot development in the next one. As ever great artwork though and a fun extras section at the end with fan costumes.

Saga #66

After a long time I'm finally continuing my favorite series!
In this issue we don't see Alana and Hazel at all, instead we follow Gale. We see that he actually knew Alana, who had rejected him in the past and we also see him finally arriving at Upsher and Ghüs. He wants to get information regarding the whereabouts of Alana and Hazel, but they tie him up and they try to teach him a lesson about forgiveness and pacifism.
Another great issue, in this fantastic series. Gale is a very interesting character, so it's interesting focusing a bit more on him, catching a glimpse into what made him the way he is. It's also always great seeing Ghüs, since he's one of the best side-characters of this series. In general this feels like a somewhat shorter issue, due to multiple pages without dialogue and due to the fact that it's not focused on the main story. Still, it was great returning to some old favorite side-characters.

Just what the fuck did just happen in this issue?!
I can't even tell you much about the story here, because everything feels like a spoiler...
So let me just tell you, some of the characters we didn't see in a while make an appearance - both of the kind of characters we wanted to see and both of the characters we would be happy to presume are dead. This short issue was such a ride! Not rating per my rule of not rating single issues...

This was definitely an interesting issue. Don't love the character that we focused on, but it was nice to see what ese has been happening with the characters we've seen (and loved - Ghus!!) before. I'm used to reading this story in completed volumes so I think I'm going to read the volume when it comes out too and I think it'll flow better for me that way.
