Is an ADHD brain better than a non-ADHD brain?

This is a question that I’ve asked myself, especially when thinking back on my career. As a creative woman in the advertising field, I’m faced with balancing my imagination alongside company-serving business models; out-of-the-box thinking alongside corporate philosophies. If you’re anything like me, “Women With ADHD” can help - from productivity and time management, to pinpointing your passions - and even harnessing your emotions when dealing with stuffy executives…who can be pretty tough cookies.

I found the book to provide an in-depth overview to the science behind ADHD. Along with having context as to why and what it’s like living with ADHD, the author also provides helpful hacks for the workplace, insightful meditation tips, and a tool-kit of app recommendations.

An intriguing fact: the ADHD brain only exists in the present. If you’re into meditation like I am, this realization is eye-opening. On one hand, the ADHD brain has a hard time focusing on the concept of future goals - on the flip side, being fully present is the audacious goal of the one who meditates.

I’d like to dive into the chapters that I resonated with the most - “ADHD in the Workplace” and “Into the Future.”

As an artist have you ever gotten lost in an idea or project, only to receive a ping from , asking if the deadline can be moved forward? As creatives, we are notorious daydreamers who pickup on stimuli that others don’t - which is what makes the insight the author provides with ADHD in the workplace so helpful. The book delves into boredom blackout, the 4-7-8 breathing technique, and tips on provoking your imagination by changing up the aesthetic of your work environment. Something else cool? Utilizing binaural beats with productivity music. Success will feel more solidified after gaining an understanding in this chapter of your ADHD mind within the workplace. The tightrope feels easier to balance on.

“Vision without action is merely a dream…” The chapter on looking into the future immediately spoke to me. I was reminded of a Salvador Dali quote, “Intelligence without ambition is like a bird without wings.” I felt like the author took a turn here, as the book seemed to take on a poetic tone with the wordplay, and evoked an emotional connection to the reader. Here she writes about the ADHD woman’s passion and daily life. How it paints the sky blue, and gives the birds their song - if this piques your interest like it did mine (and leaves you wanting more!), I highly recommend exploring and sitting with this chapter of the book. I felt like the author was speaking to my heart, and helping me discover what I desire in life. Her idea of a “smile file” sparked a creative idea for me - bonus!

Overall I found “Women with ADHD” a worthwhile book utilizing visualization as a success strategy, that can lead to the brilliance of understanding. I implore all women creatives to discover what the book can teach them about their career and lives.

Great tips

I love that there are sections included for journaling. Also, I love how ADHD is described, and not just 'oh, you have ADHD, so do this' but actually says common distractions that come from having ADHD. The strategies seem sounds, can't wait to try them!
