I loved Marlene's tales about the critters she grew up with in South Africa. She evoked the dust and smells and whimsical charms of my South African childhood, the sense of another era I lived through, have half forgotten but are still a part of my South African DNA. An enchanting set of short stories/memories of animals and childhood situations in Africa complimented by some excellent illustrations. I feel a bit like Oliver Twist - I want more please!
