Step back into the world of winter and summer fairies!
In the fourth book in the One Black Rose series, Holt's cousin Susan must come to terms with the loss of someone she loves and try to forge her own path, but she will always be a member of the Roth Court, and when Logan goes missing, Susan is forced to make some difficult decisions.
She meets the charming and elusive prince of Arsenal, Seth. Caught in his spell, Susan must decide if she is going to continue on her personal quest, or if everything she is looking for is already right in front of her, because there is one member of her family, Logan Roth, who just can't let Holt go.

At first I was disappointed. Autumn's story was over and the series was continuing on with Susan. I liked Susan well enough in the previous books, I just wasn't ready for the shift in the POV. That changed quickly though.
About the time that the bar fight broke out and Susan and Mae wake up in a mysterious place, I was glued to the pages. The mystery quickly overtook me and I loved the book!
Once I got into it, I began to see the love triangle, even though there never really was one. I love tortured love. It makes for a juicy read. Seth and Teegan seemed like swoon worthy fairies:)
I liked the spiritual journey that Susan went through in this book. She also had a great best friend, which we all could use in a time of need. She was a very lucky fairy.
I can't believe there will be a fifth book! I'm not complaining, it's a great series. Now I have to wait..argh! I'm dying to know what is going to happen with all the trouble brewing.
This book was fascinating as was all the others in this series. I have to give this one five glittery stars too, it was just too fabulous!
I really enjoyed this book. I was very glad to get more of this series because I loved the previous books. This book is more about Susan (obviously its called Susan's summer lol) but it does have Autumn and Samuel in the background. Logan though is MIA. It deals with her grief over loosing Holt and her parents (when she was younger). She meets 2 guys one is Seth , the prince of Arsenal, and the other is Teegan a member of the Marchell court. Meanwhile she is looking for her betrothed. I don't want to say more so I won't spoil it but its good and I really recommend it. I look forward to more from Maddy Edwards I really enjoy her books.
Susan's Summer was an amazing read. I'm a huge fan of the One Black Rose series and I was excited and wary about a book not having Autumn as the main character. However, this book truely was one I couldn't put down. I enjoyed the fact that Autumn and Samuel were in this book and I was tickled with the information we do receive about them. Susan's grief is written very realistically and I enjoyed getting a better understanding of her. Add in Seth and Teegan with the Summer/Winter rivals we enjoy so much and you've got yourself a book you can put down and wish never ended. Thank you Maddy Edwards for continuing with this series!
I already loved Susan in the One Black Rose Series, but my heart went out to her in this novel. Through her heartache of losing a lost one and not knowing where she fits in, she sets out to find her place in the fairy world. The journey has only just begun.
I loved this book and can't wait for the next one in the series.
In this 4th installment of the One Black Rose series Maddy Edwards focuses on Susan. Susan has lost her parents at a young age & was able to move forward with Holt as her support. Holt is Susan's cousin but she feels such love for him & is so close with him that she feels like he is an older brother. They have become very close since she moved into the Roth house.
Now with Holt's death, Susan is spiraling into a deep depression. Susan cannot function with all the sorrow & loss that she is feeling from the events that have ended in Holt's death. All of Susan's feelings of loss, love & trust are thrust upon her with this one catastrophic event. It has not only resulted in the death of Holt but now the disappearance of Logan (Holt's younger brother). Logan was to blame for the events that lead to Holt's death & has disappeared to deal with his own pain & sorrow.
Susan asks her friend Mae to go on a road trip with her. Susan has found out that before her parents died they had betrothed her to someone. Susan is on a quest to find her beloved betrothed thinking that marriage without love will be the thing that makes sense. Susan does not want to love again, she does not want to feel the loss of a loved one, it is just to much pain for one person to endure.
***SPOILER ALERT*** Susan & Mae stumble upon the Arsenal estate. The Arsenal fairies have not been heard from for a long time. Now she is faced with a beautiful prince, Seth, who takes her breath away. Seth also is helping her to heal the sorrow & loss inside of her. She also runs into an old friend of Samuel's, Teegan a Winter Fairy. She comes to believe that one of these fairies is her betrothed. Sth's father (The King) is MIA & his mother has passed away. Teegan's mother is ill & her memory is not well, but Susan is determined to find out if one of these fairies is her TO BE HUSBAND. One beautiful Summer Fairy Prince, one Winter Fairy friend, one little sister of Summer Prince (Katie), one friend from home (Mae) & 2 Fairy courts......what could go wrong.
Aside from minor errors (too/to, wood/word, Susan suddenly switching from shorts to a skirt, etc), this was pretty good and a definite must read for fans for the One Black Rose series). It has your usual wisdom regarding life and relationships, a nice (familiar) love triangle, some romance, bit of mystery, and an obvious enemy.
It was nice hearing the story from Susan's point of view, and she had a ton of character growth. The change in scenery was also nice since you get to learn more about Fairies and the various courts. You also get to meet all kinds of new characters, which was interesting, though you don't get to know them very well.
I felt like Susan's emotional state was not only appropriate, it was very relatable. The author was able to articulate a lot of emotional and insightful things. Beyond that, I think the story is interesting. Plus you get to see/hear glimpses of the characters you already know and love/hate. My biggest criticism was the lack of exploration regarding Susan's summer mission (don't want to spoil anything). Excited to see where this goes!
For the most part, if ound this installments better written Han some of the previous ones. I would like to point out though, that at times I did feel like the author had almost skipped vital parts of the story, and in one memorable section of the book, it seemed like there were two or three chapters that were out of order...but all-in- all, still worth reading....I especially enjoyed the Autumn bits...
i liked this book, but i felt a little lost with the whole is Teegan your betrothed or not. it wasnt actually confirmed. the ending didnt really get wrapped up as well as i wanted but that could be to keep an interest in another book in the series. I thought the book could have been longer to give some characters a little more depth. i look forward to more books in this series.
