Having prevented the war between the witches and vampires, Gwen Sparks was ready to move on and heal. She thought she could go home and her life would return to normal—she thought wrong.
Being a spirit walker offers her protection, but it also put her life in danger as others covet what she possesses. A bounty is placed on Gwen and rogues, who will stop at nothing to get the job done, relentlessly track her.
With no choice but to head to New Orleans to retrieve a special dagger, Gwen comes face to face with the angel of Death and the feelings she has been denying. Living in a world where everyone has a motive, can Gwen find the inner strength she needs to save her own life?
Stephanie Nelson resides in Illinois with her husband and their furry children. She began writing five years ago as a hobby and quickly fell in love with storytelling. She’s been teased about being a vampire due to her night-owl ways. However, she claims to only write about the fanged and not be part of their ranks. When she’s not working on the next Gwen Sparks or Anna Avery adventure, she enjoys: reading, traveling, playing the Wii and spending time with her family. The best part of her job is connecting with her readers.
I am an Aiden's girl, so this guy above pretty much explains how I am feeling right now. Besides my heart aching, it was another kick ass book from Stephanie! I don't know how Gwen does it, with all those hot guys around. I would be puddle on the floor.
Gwen is torn between her love for Aiden, the vampire with an addiction to brew and her attraction to Dorian "the angel of death" so talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Though I am drawn more towards Dorian as he has all the usual bad boy traits yet he saves her life repeatedly. Aiden on the other hand does love her but he constantly seems to be putting her life in jeopardy and the VC Council are not her greatest fans these days. Trying to sort out her love life is confusing enough but with so many people trying to kill her, Gwen is struggling to rise above it all. Her attitude at times is frustrating and the constant back and forth between the two men makes me want her to just "pick someone" already. The ending for me seemed a little too perfect as the lead up kind of had me expecting this all out battle but it just sort of fizzled out before it had really begun. And the ending, well when you think that Gwen's drama filled life has finally gotten back to normal (for her anyway) another problem surfaces and a new challenge begins but will Gwen survive the onslaught this time and poor Dorian is left wondering what the hell happened?
My favourite quote from Gwen has to be " What can I say? I'm a girl who likes men. Not in a fifty-dollar, make you holla kind of way but I do enjoy the rush they provide my body with."
I have enjoyed the series and look forward to the next one.
If you are reading this review, then you've already read the first two books. This is by far my favorite. I won't bog you down with details, but imagine hot guys, lots of sexual tension, and plenty of excitement. I'm a Dorian fan, and this book did not disappoint. I love the back and forth between Gwen and Dorian. He's such an interesting and mysterious character, not to mention sexy. Coveted gives us a little more insight into his world, which just adds to his intrigue. (Side note: I still wish he'd ditch the sunglasses.)
I stayed up half the night to finish this book. The ending was oh so yummy! Then, Ms. Nelson completely caught me off guard with her epilogue. I almost wish I hadn't read it because I was over the moon happy with the what I thought was the ending.
That being said, I can't wait for the next installment. I hope the epilogue is quickly resolved; however, I feel like it may be the main focus of the next book. Who knows? Either way, I'll be reading it!
OMG I love this series. Of the three books out, this is the best so far. More background about Dorian (Angel of Death) I want to be on his team. Gwen has rogues, vampires, witches, and demons after her. Girl can't get a break. Not a lot of Aiden in this book, which was fine with me. Gwen has enough to handle with Death on her side. A couple old adversaries show up in this book, and a couple new characters. Gwen finds herself in New Orleans with Dorian (Where he lives)A lot of sexual tension. Look out for the cliffhanger at the end. Book #4 is suppose to be out some time in July. Can't wait.
I can't stop laughing at the last scene in the book and the trouble Gwen gets herself into! I was said to see Aiden leave but lord help me I am in love with Dorian! Another amazing book by Stephanie Nelson and I can't wait for Hexed!
I swear my favorite authors have been on fire. Stephanie did it again, this is the best book to date in the Gwen Sparks series. The ending was gloriously not what I expected and Dorian I want to eat with a spoon. I can not wait to read Hexed. If I could give this book 10 stars I would.
Possibly my favorite of the series so far, perhaps certain Death have something to do with it, I can't help it I just dislike Aiden so much...it seems like everything goes wrong when he is in the picture...
This book was amazing! Coveted is Book 3 in the Gwen Sparks series and the best so far in my opinion. This author writes a fantastic love scene and I love the way she added a bit of humor into this book. Great read, I highly recommend.
Coveted really turned out to be a great book. I was a little disappointed in the vampire, I thought that he would at least fight for Gwen. I am glad the best man won. Now the ending left me waiting for the next chapter for Gwen and the Angel of death.
Grace has to decide if she will leave with Aiden or stay with Dorian. She's still having problems with Holly the witches council and the the vampire leaders.
Gwen Sparks is really starting to get on my nerves. She started out as a 20-something witch who owns a shop called Broomsticks and is being pursued by a vampire who wants to claim her heart but has a troubling addiction to the blood that runs through the veins of witches. Now, Gwen is a spirit walker in training, is at odds with the councils for both vampires and witches, and is torn between two men who think she is something special…for some reason. The storyline becoming more complex isn’t my problem, what is though is the focus on this love triangle that Gwen seems to be stuffing up at every turn.
At one point, in the back third of the book, Gwen marks a startling revelation:
I had forgotten my sole purpose was to track and take down Holly, instead of dealing with Aiden and Dorian. They were now both on the backburner, not to be visited until I figured out a way to handle Holly and the VC
Yay! Let’s focus on the people trying to kill/enslave you instead of which guy to sleep with tonight.
However, this essentially translates to ‘let’s get the story stuff out of the way as soon as possible so we can go back to the loving,’ which is pretty much what happened, because in about two chapters the big bad was vanquished, the vampire council dealt with, and all her peers love her again. Meanwhile she is struggling between love and lust, and her feelings and whatnot, and I found myself so angry at her sometimes because of her treatment of those who love her but also her selfishness when it came to what she wanted out of a relationship. Gwen’s life is in danger from demon possessed people from the spirit realm and all she can think about is which man to choose?
I didn’t feel that Gwen really learned anything, and she kept on telling Dorian, who is basically the angel of death, that she wanted to fight and have him stop protecting her, but she didn’t really learn anything. In fact, I became angry at the two males in her life because they wanted to go through this fight for her, when she is perfectly capable. Dorian even said that he wanted to put Gwen in a cage?! If he was real, I would have smacked him.
What I do like about this series though is that it is simple. I can get through it in a short amount of time, get a half decent story, and it fills my paranormal metre. However, by this time a series should become more engaging to give you a reason to keep going, and I don’t find that at all. The epilogue was confusing, and makes me wonder if there is going to be a new player in Gwen’s world, but it just seemed to come out of nowhere. To be honest, I am in some way (that is confusing and irritating) interested in what happens to Gwen. Maybe losing her identity and all of her memories will turn her into a better, less self-absorbed person. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.
I just love this author so much. Every time I get a hold of one of her books, I end up ignoring my other responsibilities because I just HAVE to keep reading. This book is no exception. It had been a while since I read Craved or Deceived (books 1 and 2), but after a few short chapters, I was right back into the plot like it had been yesterday. At the end of the last book, Gwen, a witch turned Spirit Walker, had killed a vampire that was trying to turn her into a vampire hybrid only to return home to find Death waiting on her doorstep. I mean that literally. The Angel Death was waiting for her because he intended to move into her apartment in order to continue her training as a spirit walker. Dorian Hade is not who you would expect Death to be like. For one, he is amazingly hot. No woman would turn Death away if he looked like this man.And two, you learn that he has a softer side. It takes a long time for Gwen to see it and accept it, but once she does, whooooooa buddy! In the last book, you also learned that Gwen's vampire boyfriend was in on the plot to turn her into a hybrid because he selfishly wanted to make sure she lived as long as he did. He didn't ever want to be without her and even though she would live a few hundred years, he wasn't willing to accept that. Gwen spends a good portion of this book trying to make up her mind between Dorian and her ex. My vote was for Dorian the whole time because once trust is gone in a relationship, it's near impossible to get it back.
You ill absolutely love how this book plays out. The ending is fantastic and feels like the series is over. Then there's the epilogue...That little teaser is going to drive me crazy until the next book comes out! Just when I was feeling like everything was exactly the way it should be! Oh well. I have something to look forward to now. LOVE LOVE LOVE this book and this author.
I've liked the series pretty much, until Aiden turned out to be a bad guy (not totally bad but nearly). You know, I have a very bad habit, that's when I read a series, I usually fall for the first guy that the heroine laid her eyes on, and for the next guy or the maybe-ultimate guy, I feel nothing. Really, even though he was good, sacrificed a lot, I still can't take that truth (ridiculous, right?). This series had exactly "that" situation.
Aiden, at first, was a very attractive, romantic, imperfectly perfect guy, who had gone after Gwen for 2 years, yeah, 2 YEARs! And Gwen had felt attracted to him even when she was with Micah, after that, she found out she was in love with Aiden, true love, I believe she said so. But then, when she went to Moon, she found herself attracted (again?) to Dorian (was Gwen a really-easy-to-attract type of girl?). That made me wonder if she was really in love with Aiden. Yeah, I know Aiden had done bad things, Aiden had made pretty much unforgivable mistakes; even when he said he did it becuz he loved her, those excusions could never be enough. But I couldn't hate him for that, couldn't join team Dorian for that. Maybe I was so into the chemistry between Aiden and Gwen that I could never accept another truth.
Haiz, I don't know why but I'm so frustrated after finishing Book 3. Maybe I will keep going with the series, maybe not. Anyway, the storyline is good and Gwen is an interesting heroine, I like her,I like everything about her but her love life, it's too complicated, too confused, too uncertain. I hope Dorian will be the ultimate guy for her whom she can trust and love with all her heart. (again, Poor my Aiden :()
P/S: I'm not so good in English so there will be pretty much mistakes in my review (grammar, for example). I hope everyone don't mind it.
"Coveted, " the third book in the Gwen Sparks series felt as though the story was just stalling. Gwen confronts Adrien's betrayal and blood addiction all while wrestling with her growing feelings for death, Dorian.
Before she can truly come to grips with her emotions, she is being hunted by demons from the veil and the vampire council. She and Dorian travel to New Orleans in search tor a knife that will assist in defeating her enemies. This is where the story begins to break down. Scene after scene Gwen waffle between her love for Adrien and her feelings for Dorian to the point of nauseum. She basically forgoes the very training needed to save her life and when she does secure the so called knife she never fully uses it. Oh, and did I mention that that with the big confrontation occurs with all her nemesis occurs it is truly anticlimatic? Well, it was fairly uneventful and more importantly meaningless. I found myself asking, "Really?"
In the end I was glad Gwen chose one of the guys over the other. I won't say whom because I do not want to spoil it for you. However, I will say this, the man she chose not only wants to protect her but more importantly wants to empower her to protect herself and I for one found that pretty damn sexy! The cliffhanger ending seems like another attempt to create romantic tension where none really isn't needed; but, we will see.
I hope this book is not a sign that this series might have run its course. If so, it would have been better served as a trilogy versus book after book of declining plots. I truly hope I am wrong and that the next book will put this series back on track. We will see.
"Coveted" by Stephanie Nelson is the third book in the Gwen Sparks Series. It's an amazing read with lots of excitement, sexual tension, intrigue and action. This installment starts with Gwen and Aiden talking about what happend (in Deceived, book 2), why he acted that way. He also tells her that he's not giving up on her, but Gwen doesn't want to have nothing to do with men or relationships right now. But it's easy said than done, since her roommate is the sexy "Death" angel who can't keep his hands off of her. She struggles with her feelings and the sexual tension with Dorian. On top of that, being a spirit walker put her life in danger. There is a bounty placed on Gwen. Rogues tracking her and not stop to get the job done.
We also learn more about the interesting and mysterious Dorian. I love him and his relationship with Gwen. So you can imagine that the ending made me very happy except for the cliffhanger mentioned in the epilogue. I must say I definitely didn't expect that. Maybe it was better if I hadn't read it, because I can't wait until next summer to know what happens next (hopefully the epilogue will quickly resolved in a good way).
This Series just keeps getting better and better with every book and "Coveted" is for me the best installment yet. I enjoyed and loved this book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Let me say, that I read the whole book in just one day.
I'm definitely looking forward for the next book in this Series, I highly recommend this!!
Gwen still loves Aiden, but can't let herself be with him. He's made too many mistakes to forgive. Dorian is still hanging around, helping her learn how to be spirit walker and Gwen isn't sure how she feels about him. She also has new problems. Someone wants her dead and has been sending rogues after her - they are members of the Veil, highly trained assassins. Luckily Dorian is there to help keep her safe. (But Gwen, stupidly, doesn't always take his help. Dumb) They end up in New Orleans, at Dorian's house and more secrets coming out. There is also a new problem - Aiden is bonded her, on the orders of the VC. Gwen just wants to be left alone, and no one will let her.
I'm glad Dorian is in the picture. I like him quite a bit. This was probably my favorite story in the series so far. I will keep reading the rest.
I'm a big Stephanie Nelson fan, I really am. I love her creative plots, twists and characters. But this book, mostly Gwen, was a lite tough to enjoy.
I love Dorian, and all the hot steam he brings to the book. His character is evolving, growing and is so intriguing. I could read endless pages of his adventures. But Gwen, really?! Where did the strong heroin go? She is put into harms way endless times in this book, yet every time she has to be saved. She doesn't seem to be growing, if anything she is becoming weaker with each situation. I really hope we see a new and improved stronger Gwen in the next book.
Now onto plot, Stephanie does not disappoint. I enjoyed the story, the progression of events and where the story seems to be going. Her writing is fantastic, flowing easily making the read entertaining.
I am and will always be a Stephanie Nelson Fan, I will continue to read on with Gwen's story as well as her other books ( I love Anna!). Here's hoping Gwen starts saving herself instead of always being the damsel in distress...
I received a free copy of this novel In exchange for my honest review.
Coveted is book three of the Gwen Sparks series. It continues where the previous book, Deceived leaves off. The bond with Ian Despereaux was broken when Gwen staked him in the heart. Her relationship with Aiden has been broken beyond repair when she learns of his addiction to Brew and his subsequent murders of her fellow witches. As she distances herself from Aiden and focuses on her spirit walker training, she finds herself becoming closer to Dorian, the sexy and ruggedly handsome Angel of Death. Gwen’s life is further turned upside down when a bounty is placed on her head and rogues from The Veil begin attacking her. Will this poor girl ever get a break?
Wow! I can’t tell you how awesome this book is. There’s nonstop action as we try to uncover what the VC and NAWC are up to. There’s edge of your seat anticipation as they rush against time, add mystery and romance with a completely surprise ending I didn’t see coming and you have an amazing five star paranormal romance!
Great addition to this series! A lot of action, twists and turns and hotness. Great dialogue and unpredictability. Things are not always as they appear. Just the right amount of angst, humor and sarcasm. Very much about relationships, which I enjoyed. Trying not to spoil too much, but Aiden has is pretty rough because of some things he has no control over. I was a bit sad for him but Dorian came on strong. I loved it when Gwen speaks of them being Friends with benefits and Dorian replies, "Worst benefits ever". I'd say he was just a bit frustrated! Really like his character and the power and mystery surrounding him. Still a few little editing issues, but all else is great. Looks like Stephanie Nelson has a publisher now so they may help with that. This is a really good series. The story, pace and dialogue is great, so it definitely deserves that little bit of polish to clean up the few typos and grammatical errors. Really looking forward to book 4!!!
I hesitated a long time to read this book because I really was afraid that it won't be good. but it was and now I wonder why it took me so long to read it.
what I liked most in this book is that we learn a lot more about Dorian. He is really absolutely awesome! Gwen was a little bit annyoing due to her ever-changing feelings
the story was good although it took a long time till we got to the heart of it but it was never slow. a little disappointing was that the action at the end of it was so short.
I loved the ending and although I read that the Epilogue is a cliffhanger, I was really shocked about it. I should have enjoyed the ending and read the epilogue shortly before the next book ... now I have to wait till August but I really hope that the cliffhanger ending is resolved quickly!
The writer is technically pretty good, and I enjoyed the plot development. I was half-way thru the second book when I realized why I felt so wishy-washy about the series; while the story is well written it has no real emotional development. The reader is aware of what is happening, but there is no real passion to draw the reader into the characters themselves. As I say, technical. This takes away a lot of possibilities from this storyline (of the whole series) and I can only shake my head that these good stories could be so much better if the writer could inject more personality. But hey, if I could do better I'd be writing myself, right? A good read, but someone anemic if you want more emotion.
I cannot believe you did that!! I WANTED MONTHS FOR THIS BOOK AND YOU END IT LIKE THAT!!!!!!!! Uuuuuuuggghghhhhhhh this sucks so much that was the worst cliffhanger in the world of cliffhangers and Jennifer l armentrout has a pretty big one I mean seriously!!!! I FREAKING WAITED FOREVER AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT AGAIN!! Everything was fine a happy ending and then.....BAM!! So thank you I now have to wait several months for the next book THANKS A LOT!
What is it that makes authors write in really stupid/unintelligent main characters? This series should be called 'The Chronic Folly of Gwen Sparks'.
When I was at university, I would call the end of lecture time 'stupid question time'. This sums up the ridiculous lack of thought that comes out of people's mouths.
I stand firmly by the equation = 'put brain into gear before engaging mouth'.
I was happy Gwen decided to give Dorian a chance. He is much better than Adrien.
The end of Holly and Ian was anticlimactic. After 3 books of anticipation their ending was so simple and mostly done by the Vampire Council, not this amazing power that Gwen have been honed.
The epilogue starts up the plot for the next book which left me very curious.
WOW!! Did anyone else feel those sparks that Stephanie Nelson sent shooting at me. This story was a roaring fire; captivating, and devastatingly epic!!It's a must read if you have been reading this series. The only thing I didn't like was the strength of her love for her ex but that's to be expected right!? Other than that it's a dynamite ready to blow your world apart.
