This 3rd book slows down as the scattered companions start spreading the word & collecting groups of people to aid the cause. They are spread all over the Twelve Claims, each group facing its own dangers & increasingly discovering new gifts. The Kindred are also learning to be a bit more aggressive in their dealings with the Serpent, skills they'll need in the troubles ahead. The Brother, or his manifestations, takes a more active part as the Serpent becomes more manifest.
