कादंबरीतील मुख्य नायिका सावित्री असली तरी तिच्या अवती भोवती असणाऱ्या पात्रांची सुद्धा कादंबरीतील जागा तितकीच महत्वाची आहे. कादंबरी वाचताना जुनी मुंबई डोळ्यांसमोर उभी राहते. सावित्री आणि तिच्या अवती भोवती वावरणाऱ्या स्त्रिया, त्यांची मतं, त्यांनी घेतलेले निर्णय आणि त्या निर्णयामुळे त्यांच्या जीवनात किंवा आयुष्यात झालेले बदल डोळ्यांसमोर एखाद्या प्रश्नाप्रमाणे उभे राहतात. कादंबरीचा काळ जरी जुना असला तरी समाज आणि समाजातील घटक आजही तसेच आहेत. चकवा म्हणजे नक्की काय हे मला हि कादंबरी वाचल्यावर कळलं अर्थात मनाला भिडलं! नक्की वाचा !

१९८३ सालची कादंबरी, स्वावलंबी होऊ पाहणाऱ्या एका सुंदर तरुण मुलीची समाज, जगरहाटीत झालेली फरफट याच खूप संवेदनशील लेखन. जवळच्या आणि परक्या माणसांच्या वागणुकीतून आलेला अनुभव, त्यातून स्वतःचा धिटाईने निर्णय घेणाऱ्या सावित्रीचे काळापुढील चित्र उभे राहते. आज काळ खूप पुढे गेला असला तरी लोकांचे तिरकस, चौकस स्वभाव कसे बदलता येत नाहीत हे जाणवते. शेवटी मनाला पटेल अनु परवडेल तोच निभावून जातो हे दळवींच्या ह्या ताकदीच्या कादंबरीतून दिसते.

A novel contains a life of Aparna [Savitri] who finally remains aloof due to her wrong decisions in her life. She looses her husband, running after a career, gets attracted towards her boss, with her strong feelings/passion for a new boss, she quits her husband who loves her too much, her own son hates her for betraying his father. All her neighbors quit talking to her, her relatives are pity for her but they are helpless, her boss for whom she quits her loving husband keeps her away due to his own family issues in the end...all you see a very good story & a strong creation of characters to weave it interesting & abiding.
