Becka Sherwood has one man in her life: her best friend and roommate Dave. That is exactly how she wants to keep it. Becka has no problem casually dating. It's once things start to get serious that she bails. To Becka, getting serious means trusting someone, and she has zero interest in making that mistake again. What about Nate is different?

Nate Parker doesn't want a girlfriend but can't seem to keep his mind, or hands, off of Becka. Problem is, he can't handle the idea of her being with anyone else either. Will Nate admit to himself there must be a reason he can't seem to stay away from her?

Something about this book really agitated me but then I really enjoyed it at the same time! I do have to say that it was the main character and also some of the plot that agitated me! I gave it 4 stars though because it was a quick read and I did enjoy some of it and also some of the characters! I did notice a few grammar mistakes though which I have been told is going to be fixed as I got an unedited version! I read this book all in the one sitting which surprised me because I thought that it would have taken me longer to read! The plot sort of annoyed me but only at some points of the book! At other points I loved the plot! Becka Sherwood was the main character and I really liked her at the start of this book until she met Kyle and then she started dating him while seeing someone else behind his back and then I sort of started to really dislike her! I did start to like her again though after she was honest! I did love though that Becka's friends told her straight that what she was doing was wrong! Nate was hot! He was amazing with Becka and I loved them as a couple! I felt so sorry for Kyle! You could see that he really cared for Becka and then what she did to him was horrible! I loved the ending though! It was so sweet and it made me smile! I love the cover! Big thank you to Carey for providing me with an ARC of Uninvolved!

I have to start by telling you what turned me on to this book. The author posted the following "disclaimer" on her facebook & Amazon page:
Warning: If you like books about virgins who turn bad boys into lap dogs this is not the book for you. In life you don't always get what you want when you want it. This book is about the internal struggle Becka Sherwood has when dealing with that. Have you ever been in a situation when you like someone more than they like you? It sucks, it wrecks your self esteem and can make you do things you aren't proud of. Becka is not a saint, she has complete disregard for someone else's feelings. She basically uses a nice guy to make herself feel better about the fact that the guy she really wants doesn’t want her the same way. She is immature and selfish and whiny and can be a total jerk but she is also young and justifying her actions.
Apparently, some people have a problem with a female main character being realistic. Yes, it's true that many books these days have a the sweet, innocent girl who falls for the bad boy. And yes, I like those love stories too. But, Becka's story is so much more real to life. I mean, come on, how many young women are truly completely sweet and innocent these days? I know they are out there, but it was so refreshing to have a main character who WAS NO WHERE NEAR PERFECT.

Becka is young, and confused, and makes mistakes. That's what I love about her. She screws up. She tries to justify her bad decisions. We've all been in situations where we make the wrong choice and then can't figure out how to fix it or turn it around. My stomach was in knots the whole time I was reading this book, because I felt for her. A good author makes the reader connect with her character, and I felt so connected with Becka that I literally felt her pain. Yes, I groaned out load a lot throughout this book. And I wanted to scream, "What the hell are you doing?!" But that's real life. We don't have the privilege of being omniscient Even when we are aware of the fact that things can only end badly, it is human nature to seek comfort and companionship.

While UNINVOLVED is not about a sweet, little innocent virgin, it is about making mistakes; about finding yourself and learning that you have to be happy with yourself before you can find happiness elsewhere. It's a journey that many of us have taken before and a struggle that is all too real. Life isn't always the perfect love story. People get hurt, hearts get broken, and things don't always turn out the way you want them to. So, may I suggest that you give this book a shot. Take it out on a date. It's a test run, not a marriage. You might find that you like this imperfect girl, with her imperfect world, and her imperfect love story. And you just might LOVE it!

This book is total BULLSHIT! Do not read it, it may be the worst book I have ever read. The synopsis thing is all wrong.Becka is NOT a commitment-phobe, just Nate. Becka can not act around a guy for anything, there ar egirls who can and there are girls who are totslly hopeless. Becka had a nice guy who loved her and she messed it up, for what? for one sided orgasms not even sex occured until the last chapter. Then the author has the nerve to write that the cheating was a MISTAKE like fuck that. God this is the angriest i've ever been, allthe notes in my nook book are full of curses, the only reason I finished it was because I already started. And the way they met like "OMG it's a guy i'm normally not attracted to but I must have him and obsess over him all day everyday." And him "Oh no I mustn't, I have a girlfriend but I am oh so attracted to Becka, maybe if i just make her come and leave all the time I won't get attached." WHAT KIND OF FUCKED UP LOGIC IS THAT!
Basically this book sucked and if you here otherwise well then the reviewer has no taste or is friends with the author.
0.1 stars
And even worse this is the 200th book i've real this year and it was utterly repulsive. But seriously i just read what other people had to say about this book and well... Ugh just don't read it.

Uninvolved immediately brought to mind an old Waylon Jennings song called Lookin' for Love. To me, this song fits Becka perfectly.

I've spent a lifetime looking for you
Single bars and good time lovers, never true
Playing a fools game, hoping to win
Telling those sweet lies and losing again.

I was looking for love in all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I'm dreaming of...
Hopin' to find a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
Another heart, lookin' for love

Becka is a young, fresh out of college, bar hopper who was burned in love back in high school, leading her to have major trust issues when it comes to men. She doesn't mind the companionship for the night, but she doesn't want to "like" any man, much less fall in love. Nate is a hot soccer player who is in love with the woman of his dreams, only to be betrayed by his future fiance and his roommate, swearing off any girlfriend forever. Two commitment phobic people, one young, the other nearing his late 20's, both burned in love before, and neither looking for anyone until they happen upon each other in the most unlikely place and the attraction is there, whether they want it to be or not.

Yet another Becka that I wanted to b**ch-slap one minute and befriend the next. Becka doesn't want a relationship she just wants to be noticed and picked up by a man. Her superpower is breaking up with anyone who tries to stick around after the fun is over, but then she meets Nate and lightening strikes her heart and her libido. She immediately is drawn to the hottie soccer player and goes into pursuit mode at once. This is the first time Becka has opened herself up to pursue a possible "like" of any man in a few years, only to be shot down because he has a girlfriend. To confuse matters, Nate begins to email Becka with flirtations and innuendos that confuse matters for her and draw her to him even more.

When Becka finally gets together with Nate, post girlfriend, I think I'm going to see one of the hottest scenes to light up the pages....until Nate stops. He stops! Oh, he pleases Becka alright, but he never...NEVER...lets Becka take care of HIM! What kind of man is this to take care of the woman without regard to his own needs and wants?! Do they exist? Well, apparently Nate is just that man. He has to have the bluest balls in history! I have to admit that I just didn't like Nate very much because of this. When Becka finally starts to feel like something is wrong with her and he doesn't like her, he tells her in no uncertain terms...

"Cause I've only ever f**ked the girls that I don't like, Becka."

So he does like her, but he also lets her know that he is in no way shopping for a girlfriend, but if he does in the near future, he will be sure and let her know. Hmmrf. As if Becka isn't confused enough! Well, the story continues to take off from there with the cat and mouse chase between Nate and Becka. While waiting on Nate to get his act together and make a move, along comes Kyle. Hottie, tattooed, lip-pierced, sweetheart of a guy, Kyle. Kyle is completely swoon worthy, and what does Becka do? She uses him for sex to boost her own ego, all the while seeing Nate on the side hoping that she will become his "girlfriend." I hated Becka the entire time she was with Kyle. She kept telling herself that what happens with Nate doesn't count as cheating on Kyle. She reminds me of the old excuse, "If you wear only socks during the act, then it's not really sex because you have clothes on." Pffft. Becka has excuse after excuse to justify her actions. She is so cowardly when it comes to Kyle, prolonging the inevitable, even with advice from her sister and her friends to break up with him to prevent hurting him. Kyle truly loves Becka, but what does she do?

"Kyle made her feel good about herself, he adored her and as long as he continued to do that, she would string him along until Nate either came around or she met someone else. In her mind, he was getting awesome sex in the mean time, so he really had nothing to complain about."

Grrrrr....I like Becka one minute, and then she completely does, says, or thinks something so far fetched that I could b**ch slap her all over again! She is the queen of rationalization. Anything to justify her actions because of her obsession with Nate. Awww but Karma has a way of catching up, and the trail of lies that she attempts to cover up become exposed in an unexpected way and at the most unexpected time.

Oh, but Nate is no better than Becka. He really did a number with Becka's head by only coming around every month or so and playing on her weakness where he was concerned. I really didn't like Nate, and I was really angered at Becka for how she let Nate treat her. But through all of the drama with Nate and Kyle, something happened and Becka began to mature. She began to think better of herself. Her self-preservation comes to the forefront, leading to a strong and confident, albeit broken hearted, woman....until she is dragged down into the psycotic self-deprecating gutter once again by Nate.

This book is not a dreamy romance or a girl meets the man of her dreams and they fall madly in love and live happily ever after sort of book. This is a very realistic story of how relationships sometimes really are when you have two commitment phobic people. The back and forth affair, the teasing, the leading on, the one-sided attraction. Love doesn't always hit each person at the same time; if it did, then life would be perfect, wouldn't it? But life isn't perfect and neither is love. Uninvolved gave me a similar feeling as when I read Avoiding Commitment but without the degree of angst.

Carey Heywood has captured the truth in the workings of love and relationships in real life with Uninvolved. Becka's immaturity was evidenced by the childish game of spin-the-bottle and stowing of an empty beer bottle that belonged to Nate. At first I thought this made Becka seem pathetic, but then I realized that it was just her maturity level, and only validated why Nate referred to Becka as "Kid." My anger toward Becka's desperation for Nate was off the charts, but then I realized that this is exactly how it is in real life sometimes. In the end, I grew to like Becka again, and after getting Nate's full story, I grew to like him, too. Do we get a happily ever after for these two commitment phobics or for Becka and Kyle? Well, there is a happily ever after, but you will have to read the book to discover just who is happy and who is not. *wink*

Thank you to the author for supplying me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love this book! Uninvolved is one of my favorite novels! I love how Becka doesn't give up on love! The way she and Nate met. The cute emails, the awkward 'I should go' Nate keeps saying. This book is one of the best! I do feel bad for Kyle but I am happy they met up to talk. And I love that Becka has Dave to always have her back! And omg the proposal is the best! Carey Heywood did it again! This novel is amazing! I love it!

I saw quite a few BAD reviews but I skipped over them and decided to read the book on my own. This book isn't like what I would normally read but it was worth it to read it. This is the story of two people with unresolved issues of the heart who meet by chance and together weave a web of confusion that draws many people in and causes everyone misery. Does this sound like a downer? Not really. The main characters are people we all have known, people who have been hurt and built up defenses to avoid ever being hurt again. Yet they are lonely, desperate almost for companionship, and are terrified when they meet their perfect match. Thus they act out and play games to avoid commitment, they make mistakes, they reach in different directions and come up empty handed, guilty, and more confused than they began. Until one fine day dawns the idea, "Hey. I'm miserable. Maybe I'm doing something wrong." Uninvolved is a tale of growing up and letting go of fears and preconceptions that are not only no longer necessary, but that are holding us back from our destiny. Ms. Heywood again tells a story with a deeper meaning than just the words themselves and does so with flair.

Sadly after finish reading this book I founf it very doubtful. Most of the time while I'm reading this is I just flipping most of the pages, I started to hate Becka when she cheated on Kyle who for me is much hotter and 10x good guy than Nate. They had "almost sex" but one thing I don't understand is that why Nate always leaving when they started to have sex? At first I thought he was gay or something but then again I like Kyle than Nate. Kyle even introduce Becka to his parents and to his sister Robin.

But then again I loved the happy ending=, after a year finally Nate proposed to Becka. (Oh My!)

After reading A Bridge of Her Own I was really looking forward to this book and once I started reading it, got through it in one afternoon. I love how real the characters are, even to the point where I wanted to give Jane a slap to point her in the right direction. Its got guys you can swoon over and a really unpredictable storyline, I have to admit I thought it was going to end differently!! A brilliant book I strongly recommend!

Nate seems to be a flirty guy, "Well, um, I'm actually in my car right now. Depending on what your address is, I can probably be there in like five minutes. Is that too soon? Besides, you really don't have to get dressed on my account." Becka and Nate's relationship is just weird to me, I mean I guess it's complicated both have commitment issues but good lord she did/does have a right to be upset is after doing the nasty he always ups and leaves I mean that must put a damper on your self esteem, "So you want me but not enough to spend the night?" Luckily she has a great roomate and guy friend Dave, who knows what to say to make her laugh and pick her up:
"Good. It was about time your lazy a** woke up. I did you a favor. So important decision time. What are we doing tonight?"
"I don't care. What do you want to do?"
"Paint unicorns and look up at puffy clouds."
"Dave, sometmes you really make me question why I am friends with you."
I didn't like what Becka was doing to Kyle I mean I don't think she intentionally meant to do it but it still felt wrong, I was however proud of Becka for FINALLY standing her ground to Nate, "What exactly do you think we are doing here, Nate? Do you have any idea how hard this is for me? To actually admit that I like someone? You don't want me, but you don't want anyone else to have me either? I can't do this any longer. I just, I can't" You go girl! The story was good but it wasn't really my kind of thing.

I know that this book has gotten some bad reviews for cheating but OMG Im @ 52% and all I can think is how in the world did anyone get through this book?!?!? to even rate it and complain about the cheating because the cheating part isnt even an issue I mean she doesnt have a committed relationships with anyone! but she has a few guilty moments so maybe the people that ranted on it for that reason took her few moments of caring serious ..

Anyways its told in 3rd person and not well.I feel more like im reading a half finished idea of what the story would be like. It started out good enough but after about 20% i kept waiting for something to happen.. anything really.. like something other than her whining because she wasnt getting her way.And then her thought of how she was hurt by her first love and she would never let thta happen to her again yet that doesnt even explain any further..

Ive only skimmed and DNF maybe a handful of books and I dont even care what happens at the end of this book @52% I feel Ive given it a reasonable amount of my reading time to get me into the story and yet Im just not feeling it so this is a DNF for me.There are far to many books out there than to waste my time on a book that is less than a *meh* read.

I'd give this 3.5 stars. Becka was a selfish girl. The things she did and said were hurtful and selfish. Kyle was nice and genuine and she walked all over him and was completely a bitch. Nate, where do I start. You don't learn why Nate is the way he is and why he acted like he did. I could tell he was reserved but didn't know why. At one point I though he was an ass and probably using her but I wasn't 100% convinced. Eventually I figured he was warring with himself. Finally, when Becka apologized to Kyle, focused on work and chilled out with men, and told Nate not to contact her again until he changed his mind.. That's when I regained any respect for her. She had to learn this lesson about men, commitment and herself and I think it made her a better person. Once she did that Nate was able to resolve his own feelings and admit it to Becka. So after all that I was ok with them being together. It was obvious they had an attraction from the start, it was just a lot of drama to get to the good part. Ending and epilogue were good. Dave was a cool friend and roommate. Better than her chick friends.

I LOVE everything Carey writes but this is on a whole different level! This story encompasses everything a woman goes through when we try to get over a guy by moving on but just can’t. I feel for Becka because she seems like she genuinely didn’t want to hurt Kyle but she also couldn’t completely let go of Nate even though Nate was hot and cold all the time. All I can say is that I want to read more of Becka and Nate!

Hmmmmmmmm...
This booked annoyed me.
First off, Becka was a bitch. A selfish, narcissist who talked and thought of herself constantly.
Nate, i loved. He wasn't the perfect knight in shining armour but was hot enough to be mentioned.
As for the style of writing, it was weird. I don't know how to explain it but i found it plain and average.
Good storyline though.

I really enjoyed this book, ok yea there where some parts in this book where I could of hit becka and yea she was selfish especially when she was play around with people's hearts, the things that nate did I would of told him what for, but he seem like a very nice guy who also doesn't want to get hurt so I could understand his feeling and why he did those things after reading more of the book.

I enjoyed the book, must say some of the other reviews are way too bitchy but that seems commonplace on goodreads. Yes Becka has questionable morals but it is not like she is the first person to do what she did. It is realistic. Dont understand why people seem to have such a problem with realism in books

At first I enjoyed the book but then as the book progressed I found myself skimming through the book. Personally between Nate and Kyle, I would have picked Kyle. Nate was a complete jerk and found myself getting annoyed with his character pretty early on in the book. Beca is an idiot for her attitude and behavior, although she did try and make amends towards the end. Too little too late

The storyline was good but I don't think Nate's side of the story got enough progression. It was just very much oh she cheated on me. I also think the tense that the book was written in really limited where the book could go, because it was written as if the reader is looking in it becomes very disjointed and just urgh.

I love Carey Heywood, but i didn't like this book.
I got to 46% and had difficulty continuing... I didn't like the character Becka, she was annoying and selfish and a pain in the backside. Dave had the potential but was used as a side character, as were her supposed friends Crystal and Lucy. I spent most of the time reading this wishing it would hurry up and finish. Next!

I read this book in one evening and enjoyed the story line. I could have enjoyed a little more "steam" - especially in the later scenes, but that's my personal opinion. Much improved layout over Carey's first book. I look forward to her next creation!

I loved reading Him so much I gave this book a shot. I liked it, but I so wanted to smack Becka so much; I just wanted to shake her too much. Maybe if I ever had the dilemma of deciding between to men I probably would be able to relate to her more. I did enjoy it. A quick read.

When you're always talking about the same girl in a paragraph is not necessary to write her name all the time. The continual repetition of the name makes reading tedious. This is not the first book written by this author. Then why she writes so poorly?
