Yeahhhh. Not my type of book. Don’t read it for the romance. I can’t be too mean because the book itself has some good messages and stuff, but that’s it. The writing style had me cringing at times. Especially the romance. It felt rushed and crammed in. I enjoyed the concept and the plot for the most part but the earthquake felt rather played down and dull. There wasn’t even any side or main character death during the earthquake, which is unrealistic. I get that this book can’t be too sad because it s supposed to end on a happier, hopeful note, but I found it irritating. Did the horrors of the earthquake stick with me? No. Should they have? Yes. Oh well. I mean, I didn’t expect much out of Thai anyway but what can you do when you have to read a book for class?
i read this for my french class and i yapped about how i hated karine for 100 words over the 300 word limit on the evaluation. why does she cry over everything but not do anything?? she’s crying literally every 2 pages when she could be helping fix whatever’s making her sad 😭😭
if i get over 85 on the assignment ill consider hating this book a little less but dude everything abt the book was so eugdhdjfnv

This was the first French book I've ever read, especially since it's in a language I don't speak and had to read it for a school assignment. Though, I WAS VERY MOVED READING THIS! THIS BOOK WAS TRULY AMAZING!
I get that not everyone would consider reading this as it's about two "friends," Karine and Antoine who MIGHT like eachother who go on a trip to Haiti for university or something like that. When they arrive they make new friends and learn new things. Then, an earthquake happens which lead to tension and worry for everyone. Some of you may think that this book will only be about an earthquake, but no, it actually does have a story between the characters and their different perspectives.
This book was written with many positive messages which I loved a lot! It really does want to make you read more to know what happens, especially when the characters loved ones are in danger or already hurt. There's not much romance, but in my opinion I feel like this is a good book to show an actual issue in the world without unnecessary things. I LOVE ROMANCE BOOKS, but I understand why there wouldn't be much of it in this book as the author's main purpose was to educate readers about the 2010 Haiti earthquake and to tell us about the beautiful country that existed before the natural disaster. Tbh, the little romance in this book still made me feel...😮🤭🥹.
If you're someone who would want to try reading about something that's related to an actual disaster that happened in the past then this is the book for you. And let me readword this a little, if you're someone who wouldn't want to read this, you should! if you want to read something meaningful that's still good.
THIS WAS DEF 5 STARS. It was not what I usually read, definitely new for me, but it made me consider reading books I am usually not intrested in reading right now or books that are in a different language that I'm missing out on. 🤪

Okay....Okay....Where to even begin? I shouldn't really. I should just stay hushed about this...but SQUEAL!!!!!!!! Wow. Just wow. I was hooked from start to end.
Les trésors d'haïti (Paperback) is simply the greatest work of literature of our time! This book completely changed my life for the better. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Simply incredible. When I say that EVERYONE should read this book at least once in their lifetime, I mean it. Every. Single. Person. On this planet. This book brought tears to my eyes. The beautiful romance and terrifying suspense make for one of the best reading experiences I've ever had.
I have been searching for this book for YEARS. I love this sweet, sweet book! It's just so closely aligned with how I feel in my soul. Karine is my sweet angel princess, perfect and beautiful! My favorite character.
Linda, girl, you really outdid yourself with this one, honestly, I can't even begin to imagine the genius it takes to write something like this! The world-building was simply incredible. Transported me to another dimension, the reading experience was just so surreal. Made me wish Haiti was real sometimes hahaha!!!
Seriously, this book is the greatest thing I've ever read. I know it might just be the bookworm in me talking but everything about it just blew. me. away. Antione's humor is really the best! All of his jokes just cracked me up, I LOLed IRL!!!!! Had me going through Every emotion possible! The suspenseful twists and turns drove me CRAZY! https://media.giphy.com/media/1SEFE22...
I seriously could not put this book down! My latest obsession and favorite book ever. If you're a book nerd like me, you will love this book. Thank you, Linda, for bringing this masterpiece of a book into the world. I owe everything to you. Changed my life forever. 5 BILLION STARS!!! LOVE IT~!!!
I had to read this for my French class and the whole time I was just kinda like eughhhhh. Karine's entire character mostly just feels like the white saviour trope combined with the white women's tears, and I'm pretty convinced this is just Linda putting herself into the book so she can show how much she cares. I feel like for a book that is meant to "show both sides of Haiti" it really seemed more focused on showing us the really terrible parts but then trying to lighten the mood with *gasp* a movie! I think it just could've been written a bit better, with more focus on character development and less on the random romance that wasn't really needed and didn't really add much to the story. I also wish there was more actual history involved in it, and more of a perspective from the people of Haiti (although I would also not want Lisa writing that so maybe it's a good thing?) I have to say though, the ending really opens it up to discussion on what is considered the "right" thing to do in that situation and it could really be argued either way so that was a good bit.
Not my type of book.. I read it in French for school and almost fell asleep in class. I found the two main characters- but especially Karine- to be extremely unrealistic. However, I didn't hate or strongly dislike it, I just get bored by this type of book.
A quick reread of this novel for a class I was teaching reminded me that although it tackles a difficult subject and pays respect to Haiti, it was not all that well written. In particular the book is designed for novel study but doesn't have any of the style and beauty that can be literature. It was more just a exercise in comprehension.
