Back to being bummed by an Ultimates arc. President Cap and Anthony were particularly infuriating. Thankfully this doesn't have the bro-ish-ness of the Millar Ultimates, but it does have the shallowness. I'm especially disheartened because I was loving the momentum of the broader storyline surrounding The City.

Thor, CAP and Iron Man faces the crisis in USA and the mastemind behind it. A new president and som drastic measures is taken by the Ultimates. A joint event covering both Ultimates, Spider-Man and the X-men

Baaaaaaring! It's the one where Steve becomes Potus. I remember enjoying Thor in this and being annoyed by Tony - but I remember little else.

Ultimates. Humphries has improved since the previous volume, and thus this six issues of big-screen action-adventure doesn’t seem as ridiculous as his first few adventures. In fact, there’s a lot to be excited by. The downside is that there’s a sense of inevitability as the Ultimates reunify the country that makes us feel like there’s no alternative (and the sudden release of the Ultimates from jail seems like a rather abrupt reversal of the previous volume). The couple of surprises (the election & the appearance and fate of the big foe) aren’t enough to make it a great story. The artwork is a bit of a letdown too, running from poor to OK [6/10].

The problem with this volume is that it's all unrelenting action. There's no juxtaposition between more quiet scenes, and so all that big action is wasted on the reader. None of it feels particularly exciting.

Neither is there any room for character development. Thor gets a little exposition, but that's about it.

What this volume is good for, however, if providing the broad view of the war. If you're going to read vol 3 of X-men and Spider-man, then this is the one to read first.

I had a few problems with this comic. The thing that annoyed me the most was the action. I think comics should be balanced, but this had way too much action and I just got a bit bored. I liked the art but there was something that just felt weird for me.

This is like the Hollywood version of a Marvel event. All intense flash, no pacing, no balance. America is his White House. Pfeh.
