Maggie is a wolf shifter who was captured and experimented on by the Kurjans. Now that a cure has finally been found for shifters (although not for vampire mates or witches), she can concentrate on creating a new life for herself and finally accepting that her memories are gone forever. Most memories, that is. Sometimes in the hazy world between dreams and dawn, she hears a Scottish voice, dark and deep, that sounds suspiciously like wolf-shifter Terrent Vilks. A man she happened to anger by kidnapping a few years back. Hey, it was for a good cause.

Terrent Vilks knows more than he’s let on for the past several years. After digging for answers, he knows exactly why the demons want Maggie dead. And he remembers his past with Maggie…very well. She is finally where he wants her. Now all he has to do is discover what exactly the Kurjans did to her, beat the demons into so much submission they leave her alone, and get her to fall in love with him. Again. Good thing he’s used to wrangling monsters.

Yay Maggie and Terrent..... I have been waiting for Maggie and Terrent's story since she nailed him in the balls! This novella was freaking great, but should have totally been a full novel! So someone is messing with the Virus-27 vaccinations. The King sends in Maggie to investigate who is sabotaging the inoculations. Maggie is a wolf shifter who was kidnapped by the Kurjans and experimented and injected with virus 27 and experimental drugs making her lose her memory of her past life. Terrent is the leader of the Bane Council. He and Maggie in past books have had some smoking hott chemistry. We find in this book that Maggie was mated to Terrent before she was kidnapped and that poor Terrent has been waiting 10 long years for her to remember him and their life. Terrent is one sexy dominant kick ass total alpha wolf. Maggie is sweet and cute, but brave. Reading about them falling in love again was so sweet. I so glad Maggie gets her HEA. This book is so a must read. Next is Jase's book Woot!

“I think I remember loving you, Terrent Vilks.”

Wolf shifters’ nation is this time in the spot light.

Maggie was a guinea pig for the Kurjan scientists and for virus 27, which was turning shifters into werewolves and vampire mates into humans again.
Nowadays a vaccine has been found for virus 27 by the vampire scientists and for the time being at least shifters are safe. Until a few years ago, Maggie could shift in her wolf form only during full moon. Now she can shift any time, but she has difficulties keeping the wolf form.

Terrent is a member of the Bane Council and he is constantly on the move solving shifters’ problems. His personal problem unfortunately cannot be solved and it is associated with Maggie. These two apparently have a history together, but Maggie does not remember anything about her past life. Terrent has been waiting patiently for her to remember for the last 10 years. Now, it is time for Maggie to leave the safety of the vampires and the the Kayrs family and meet again with Terrent. It is time to learn the truth.

I wish this was a full length story like the one Jordan & Katie the lion shifters had. Maggie was one of the characters that we met at the beginning of the series and I suppose all readers had been curious about her, her secrets and her past life.

In this book, the time she spends with Terren is amazing. Two wolves falling in love, running together, making love and living in their little bubble.
But I wanted more…I wanted more about their background story and maybe they should have shared a full adventure together in the present time.

Twisted by Rebecca Zanetti

Book 5.5 of the Dark Protectors series. Paranormal wolf shifter and vampire romance novella. Best read as part of the series.
Maggie was kidnapped by the Kurjans and has lost a lot of her memories. Terrent can fill in the blanks for Maggie if he can hold her attention long enough to let their sexual sparks speak for themselves.
Maggie’s not sure she likes that Terrent hasn’t been open with her. Terrent knows what Maggie needs: His protector instincts and his love.
Hot and steamy sexual antics with lots of spanking.

Terrent & Maggie's story:

Best. One. Yet. I fluffin loved it! This is not a standalone and won't make sense unless you start with book 1. We've gotten glimpses of Maggie and Terrent in previous books and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Terrent is a big ole softy! He came off so cold in previous books. He's still very much a dominant male and quite deadly but he is also super protective of the people he cares about. It makes for a very pleasing combination as the Hero of this book. Maggie wasn't really a surprise. We got more of her character in previous books than we did of Terrent and she was true to that character in this one. We do learn more about her past and what possible could have been done to her by the Kurjans. The author didn't reveal all secrets though, so we still have some surprises ahead. I really loved this one!

4.5 sexy badass stars

This novella in the Dark Protectors series brings us the long awaited story of Maggie and Terrent, and OMG, it was unexpected!

Bombshell alert!!!!

Ten years ago shifter, Maggie was taken by Kurgens. She was experimented on and whatever they injected her with caused her to lose her memory. Since being rescued, she has been looked after and protected by the Kayrs family at Realm headquarters who have looked after her and tried to help her remember who she is but to no avail.

Terrent Vilks is a badass loner shifter. Head of the Bane’s Council, he is responsible for hunting down and destroying rogue werewolves. He and Maggie had a brief but intense encounter a few years previously, and he made it known then that he wasn’t done with her.

When the King sends Maggie to shifter territory to investigate tampering with Virus 27 vaccinations, she meets with the rugged wolf who drops the mother of all bombshells , revealing that he knows who Maggie is, and proceeds to make it his mission to make her his .

The chemistry in this book is off the freaking charts! Maggie and Terrent have freakish intensity, and I got more invested in their hook up than I have with some of the other couples featured in this series so far. They banter, they argue, and the passion between them is explosive. Rebecca Zanetti jammed as much sex into this little novella as she does into a full-length book, and it. is. STEAMING!!!! There’s something about shifter sex that is so incredibly hot and wild *fans self*. But more than just the sex, their emotional connection is gorgeous and the romance is beautifully swoony.

There are a few plot twists which will have repercussions for the rest of the series, and I’m really liking the direction that things are taking. And I’m ridiculously excited for Jase’s book up next!

Full of the action, humour, romance, sex and paranormal badassery that I have come to love about this series, this book bought it all!

I loved it – 4.5 stars.

3 1/2 "Sweet, funny, and sexy" Stars!

I enjoyed this story. I have always wanted to see Maggie and Terrent together. However, it could have been better with a few more details and explanation about why Terrent left Maggie with the vampires for so long and more about their history together. Seems very out of character for theses alpha guys to be away from their lady, at all. Especially not for this long. I suppose that happens in novellas sometimes; lack of the good details. It was still entertaining and made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Good addition to the series, I just wanted more. More, more more ;-) Happy reading!

It was sooo good to be back in this world – with these characters! The action, the suspense, the humor, the emotion … and the hot-monkey sex!!!

I have loved the powerful, dominant Terrent and the feisty, adorable Maggie since they were first introduced in the series. These two were intense, and by the time I was finished with this one I was in doggy heaven!

I’m squirming in anticipation for Jase and Brenna’s story.

The second I met the characters, Maggie and Terrent, I was desperate for their book. Unfortunately, this wasn't a full novel but it was still completely adorable (more adorable than I thought possible for Terrence).

It was slightly more ridiculous than the others, with some of the side characters bleeding into cringe-worthy stereotypes and cliches, but all round it was worth the read. This series is short, sharp and shiny—I can manage to get through quite a few in one day and they're always so much fun.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EDIT RE-READING : one of my favorite novellas, mostly because Terrent <3
FINALLY the story of Maggie and Terrent =D
- alpha werewolf badass ? Checked
- scottish sexy man ? Checked
- clumsy but cute and sassy woman ? Checked
- mysterious past that is FINALLY revealed ? Checked
- bestial sex scenes ? Checked (LOL)
Two regrets : I would have preferred a whole book because I had the impression that the story was going too fast and lacked complexity unlike other books in the series (I would have liked more explanation, seeing the clan Maggie, more battles ...) AND I still don't understand why Terrent did not move heaven and earth to recover Maggie earlier ... TEN YEARS !!! Dage would have killed everyone on the spot if someone had kidnapped Emma, Jordan the same ><
Finally, this book offers us a glimpse of post-kidnapping Jase and I can't wait to see him with Brenna =D
A short story for Maggie and Terrent. There were some interesting surprises here as we learned more about both Maggie's and Terrent's backgrounds as they are investigating who is sabotaging the inoculations. The ending wasn't really a surprise but it was interesting to see how it got there.
For the last 10 years, Maggie has been living in the dark about her past. She is a wolf shifter that was kidnapped and injected with an experimental drug by the Kurjans, she remembers bits and pieces of her past but for the most part her memory is gone.
Living among the vampires, Maggie has found safety and made a home. When the vampire king asks her to investigate drug tampering in the wolf packs, Maggie must rejoin her own kind...and Terrent Vilks.
Terrent Vilks knows Maggie and just happens to be her mate. Keeping the secret for 10 years, he’s been ridding the world of werewolves while Maggie remained safe with the vampires. But now that she’s returned to the pack, he’s not about to let her get away again. Terrent must convince Maggie of her past love for him and reclaim the mate he lost.
A quick novella length story, Twisted gives us a teaser of the Dark Protector world. Terrent is demanding and arrogant with that alpha attitude that I love. Maggie is strong and independent with goals of her own, she is not easily controlled and willing to fight for what she believes in. A wonderfully matched pair they are not, but it’s so much fun watching them come together. Engaging, entertaining and enjoyable Twisted gives you just enough to make you want more.
This ARC of Twisted was given to me by Kensington Books - eKensington in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication May 28, 2013.
This really didn't seem like a novella it was more like a full length story. I think that could be because we already know Maggie and her story as she had featured quite a bit in other stories across the series. Would still have liked to have had more of a story between Terrent and Maggie.
This was a cute novella. I would have really loved it if not for Terrance letting her live for 10 FRIGGIN YEARS not knowing who she is and she forgives him instantly. Again, a heroine's vagina gets in the way of her brain.
Other than that bullshit premise, I really enjoyed the story!
4 - "I'm a big ole slut who f**ked wolf-boy senseless ten years ago." Stars!
The one issue I have with the novellas that are part of the Dark Protectors series is that I think the characters (although secondary to the Kayrs family in the books) have enough going for them that they could be afforded a full length book. Maggie and Terrent are no exception, especially as the novella develops and you realise that things between them aren’t as cut and dried as you thought.
”I think I remember loving you, Terrent Vilks.”
Home lived in his scent, in the feel of his arms around her.
”Then I found you, and I wasn’t lonely any longer.”
Терънт и Маги
Ох Теръъъънт, боже в другите книги Терънт не беше толкова готин. Тук е просто велик, сладък, кукльо и половинка. Дейдж изпраща Маги, при вълците, за да разбере кой се опитва да прецака антидота вълците срещу вирус 27. Там Маги се изправя пред Терънт. След страстната им целувка от преди няколко години, тя очаква срещата им с трепет и лек страх. Това което никой не е подозирал и което Терънт е крил до сега е, че преди да бъде заловена от Кърджаните, с Маги са били влюбени и тя се е била съгласила да стане негова половинка. Сега Терънт има няколко задачи, трябва да убеди Маги в любовта си, да я накара да го обикне отново и да се обвържат. Освен това трябва да намери предателя измежду вълците, а за капак се задават както стари така и нови врагове. Терънт е с пълни ръце, а Маги се бори срещу него, неспособна да продължи живота си без да е успяла да си върне паметта. Дали ще се справят?
Can these books get any better? I’m not sure my heart can take it if they do. I’ve enjoyed every single one of them but this one definitely takes high honor…at least until I read the next one.Filled with so much humor and warmth it wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
Terrent kind of scared me in the previous books. He’s a huge wolf shifter and he hunts werewolves for the council. Believe me, it’s a big deal not only in the shifter world but to the Realm. Maggie lost her memory ten years ago and feels lost in this new world of wolf shifters since she’s been living with the vampires after they rescued her from the demons. Yeah, you read that right. Don’t ask questions, just go with it...okay?
This is the story of how a huge bulky wolf claims his little wolf, again. I smiled so hard my cheeks hurt as I fell in love with this couple. It’s a pretty short book but it’s got a strong backbone and full of heat and heart. If I was one of those people that do all that highlighting in their Kindle, I’d have highlighted just about every other line.
Although this is part of a series I believe you could safely read this without feeling lost.
Read this review on Got Fiction? book blog
Maggie was captured by the Kurjans and experimented on. This caused her to have no memory from beyond the past 10 years, when she was rescued. In the meantime, she’s been training with the vampires, and has been, well if not happy, content.
But 5 years ago, she met Terrent Vilks (for those following the series, they faced off in Consumed), and this novella is their story.
What I liked about this story was that we got to see both of their backstories, or at least enough to see that there’s more to their relationship than a simple alpha wolf who sees his she-wolf and then growls “mine” the whole book (not that I mind that lol).
***small spoiler***
We also see that the 2 of them were mated before she was taken by the Kurjans, and Terrent’s been incredibly patient this whole time waiting for her memory to return, which it may or may not ever return. But I think that’s also what I didn’t like as well. I mean these 2 have this intense history and he’s willing to wait 10 years? Wow, I just don’t see a wolf as alpha as Terrent just sitting on the sidelines while his mate lives a life separately from him.
Another thing I really really didn’t like is that while Maggie is endearingly clumsy, she keeps insisting that she’s been trained by vampires and that she’s a kickass wolf who can take care of herself. But she’s not! It drove me nuts! There is nothing wrong with saying, “You know what? I’ll accept your help, and I can’t actually do it all on my own.” Don’t keep saying that you’re trained for this, even though you have PTSD and can’t hold your wolf form all the time.
But other than that, this was a good novella full of more than the usual werewolf romance. There was a side plot going on about some of the vaccines they’d created being tampered with, and fans of the series will enjoy seeing Jase and Dage have some page time as well.
Are you as hooked on Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors Series as we are? If so you are going to absolutely love Twisted. A Novella telling us Maggie's Story. You know Maggie, the shifter that was captured by the Kurjans and then saved by Kyrs family? Well she has spent 10 years living with the vamps but now it's time for her to return home...
Maggie Malone (seriously? How cute is that) has spent 10 years not knowing who she is.. but finally she feels strong enough to go out into the shifter world and start figuring things out. Her first task is to find out who is sabotaging the inoculations and report back to the Kyrs.. Only Terrent Vilks has other plans..
Terrent Vilks has spent ten long years waiting for Maggie to remember something.. just a flicker.. but most importantly remember him. They are mates and he has missed her.. it has killed him to leave her with the Kyrs knowing she belongs with him but it was best for Maggie.. Now, she is back and all bets are off! Terrent wants his mate.
An action packed novella, It seems little Maggie Malone is a wanted woman. Wanted by her original pack, wanted by the Kurjans, wanted by the Demons and most of all wanted by Terrent. She is willing to fight for what is hers but is tired of being left in the dark. Now she wants to know what is going on and how she can help.
I liked how Rebecca showed conflict even within the ranks, that there are always idiots who want power more than they want what is best for others. They want to lead by demand.. not understanding what a leader is. I especially enjoyed how this story played out. The change to a new Alpha and how the Pack decided what was best.. fabulous!! Made me totally smile. *grins* wait until you meet the cheerleaders, Barbie they aren't!
Great addiction to this wonderful Series.. And Jace's book is up this fall!!
Twisted (Dark Protectors, #5.5) Rebecca Zanetti
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense
3.75 Stars
The world build, the characters, everything about this series is fantastic.
While I can say this is my favorite (it isn't), it is still very good.
There was room for improvement.
I think it would have been better if it was a bit longer.
I have been curious about Terrent & Maggie and wanted to learn more about them.
So part of my problem is it felt a bit rushed. It felt like some of their story was missing.
It is a very good read.
There is a good bit of action and suspense.
The intimate scenes are adult & steamy.
I just expected a better connection to them with more answers than what we got.
Still, I love this series and I highly recommend it.
Rating: 4 out of 5.
A lovely and sweet novella about a pair of wolf shifters, Maggie, the heroine who has lost her memory and Terrent the Alpha hero, who is determined to be a part of her life again.
This novella has intrigued me enough to want to read the other books in this series.
My Review:
Twisted was a true delight to read! I couldn't seem to get enough of it. I absolutely loved everything about this story and from beginning to end I didn't want to put it down. This does involved the world of the Dark Protectors, but this one takes a break from the vampires, to shift to a shape shifter clan although our hero, Terrent, is good friends with many vampires within this series. And I really enjoyed those connections. Sometimes I am tempted to do a reread of the series lol
This book was just about everything. I loved their chemistry, their bond together, learning to recoonnect with each other. I know I missed some details from previous books involving this couple though since its been so long since I read so many of these books. I adored seeing them learn to reconnect after a decade of being seperated and our heroine not remembering her life from before. I did enjoy that not everything gets fixed and they have to just be content in living in the moment. Their chemistry was off the charts and I didn't want to put this down. This book delivered all the swoons I look for in a shifter romance and more! And the ending was true perfection!
Overall I had a blast with this one here and eager to see what is ahead.
These novellas are nice except fotlr the fact that we have too much intimate times and not enough plot. But they are good nonetheless.
This one is available today! Hot SHIFTERS for the win!
ANOTHER short story. Apparently I'm on a roll with them.
I stayed up until midnight reading this one.
This is number 5.5 in the Dark Protectors Series. I haven't read the first five, but I will certainly be searching them out, and will be anxiously awaiting book 6, Shadowed. I stayed up until after midnight reading Twisted.
Even though I haven't read the others, I was quickly drawn into Ms. Zanetti's world of shifters. I like when an author can bring new readers to an understanding of their world and the past goings on without beating us over the head with it. Ms. Zanetti had a very natural way of bringing the past histories together in this new story.
Poor Maggie. She's been without her memory for ten years. She's been learning to fight, thanks to the vampires she's lived with and despite her nearly overwhelming clumsiness. The king sends her to find out why a vaccine, in the hands of her fellow wolf shifters, has been contaminated. Her host, Terrent, gets to protect her immediately when three wolves, with no scent, try to take her. Good thing her vampire friend, Jase (and the MC for Shadowed), is there to help.
To her shock, and a bit of hope, Terrent tells Maggie that they agreed to be mated just before the events that occurred to steal her memory. There is something about him that she's drawn to. Something that makes her think that this might be true.
Their coming together, rather to test those theories, is beyond hot. Totally makes this for a more mature reader.
While this book is in the middle of a series, it stands alone. Yet it still makes me want to know more. Some threads are tied up, but we really need to find out about Jase.
Yes, indeed, I'd read this one again!
Twisted is an excellent novella, I found it to be an exciting read and a well-written plot. Zanetti does a good job of novellas, probably because the compressed time frame keeps the story tight and on point, no time for fillers or going off on tangents. Twisted was so refreshing. It was fantastic to learn more about the Bane Council and especially their leader, wolf shifter, Terrent Vilks. Maggie Malone, a female wolf shifter, started to blossom once she was out from under the protective bubble of the vampires and immersed with her own people.
Since the main characters are both shifters and of the same species, the reader gets to see up close how a pack interacts with each other without all the angst and conflict of interspecies mating. I loved being ensconced with the pack, especially the cheerleaders when those girls showed that even young wolves can throw down in a fight. I find the shifters far more intriguing than the vampires. Shifters communities have a more cohesive, family vibe, even when there is conflict in their ranks, than vampires; although I do appreciate and like that Zanetti’s vampires are not reanimated dead bodies but a separate species who are born not turned.
My only issue was that Zanetti fell back on a rehashed plot of another long (ten-year) separation of the main couple as a plot conflict. These men are supposed to alphas yet they just walk away and leave their mates in the care of the vampires. Overall, I loved this novella and seeing shifter alphas as Terrent and Jordan being showcased as integral to the Realm and out from under the shadow of the omnipotent vampire king.
Maggie is a wolf shifter who was experimented on and as a result she is missing a huge chunk of memory, her past is a mystery to everyone except maybe Terrent Vilks. Terrent & Maggie have a strained relationship, she kidnapped him once and he has never forgive her for it - for some reason Maggie hears his voice in her dreams, or at least she thinks it's his voice, can he know more about her past than he is letting on? Now that all factions have manipulated Maggie into agreeing to spend time with the Wolf Shifters will she finally get the answers she needs? Will she be able to paste things back together in her mind and hopefully discover herself along the way?
Terrent is a strong alpha wolf who has definitely met his match in the form of Maggie, she may not know who she was but she has spent the last decade living and training with vampires. She is no pushover and Terrent isn't one to give up until he gets what he wants - an explosive combination perhaps?
I loved these two together, there was a lot going on outwith their relationship with the investigation into the saboteur of the inoculations, dominance fights amongst the pack, teenage werewolf cheerleaders and Maggie being hunted by demons and her past!
Rebecca threw in a few surprises into this novella and I loved how the whole story played out. I finished this one with a huge smile on my face, and I really can't wait to read Jace's story.
Been waiting for Terrent's story for eons (kidding). Being introduced from the previous books as one of the 3 members of the BANE COUNCIL, I've been wondering and slightly hoping he will have his own story and voila! Here he comes! An over 100% wolf alpha!
I just love him and his over alpha-mones. I just wish this was a full book and not just a novella for DP, nonetheless this was an awesome read just like the previous books in the series. Yay. XDD
If you haven't read the previous books in this series you would be a bit lost with this cute novella as Maggie and Terent's story picks up right in the middle of all the ongoing action.
I'm so glad they both got their long overdue and hard fought for HEA. I wasn't too sure about Terent in earlier books, but getting their history and how he gave her the space she needed changed my mind for the better. He's a bossy, hot, uber protective alpha male and was perfect for Maggie
I enjoyed Maggie & Trent's story but something was missing for me. I don't know what. Maybe I was expecting her memory to return or to find out more about her mutation. But its a novella, and so they give you the short version of the call to love.
It was nice seeing Jase after his imprisonment. I look forward to his book this fall or winter.
The only reason I can't give five stars is because this story was too short! There were some amazing twists and turns in this story, and I loved seeing Maggie flourish. I'm looking forward to seeing how Maggie and Terrant are doing in the next few books.
