Less than one week after Earl Blackhawk helped Risto Smith and Callie Meyers fight off a Colombian drug lord in Osprey’s Point, Michigan, he travels to Idaho to act as Risto’s best man at his marriage to Callie. There he meets Callie’s friend, Tessa Andrews. When he’d asked Callie to find him a woman just like her, he’d been teasing … sort of. but Callie had taken him seriously and he was glad she had.

Tessa comes to Idaho with a problem dogging her heels. A cyberstalker has resurrected a past she thought deeply buried. A past any decent man, a man such as Earl, would take one look at and run the other way.

But then, Tessa has never met a man like Earl. He’s more than attracted to Tessa, feels instantly protective of her, and nothing and no one will harm her while he’s around.

Tessa doesn’t believe she deserves a happy ever after, and when Earl and some others see the damaging images her cyberstalker sends her, she runs into the teeth of a storm front and deadly peril.

Earl Blackhawk we met him in the second book when he helped Risto and Callie fight her obsessive stalker. Going to their wedding he meets Callie's best friend Tessa. She might be a model and looks like no trouble effects her but she has been having trouble with a cyber stalker who threatened to expose her of her days she was kidnapped and raped now determined as ever Earl promises to find the SOB and kill him to protect his love. This might be quick love at first sight but when these alpha men know who they want and no one messes with his girl.

Ridiculous, over the top, eye rolling and at times laugh out loud lame but I enjoyed it all the same. Hey, I appreciate the author dishing a free novella on her website. Can’t miss a chance at reading a glimpse of Ren my favorite alpha of the SSI series.

Due to just 89 pages there had to be some VERY quickie insta-love between Big Earl (Risto’s friend) and Tessa (former model turned author) a friend of Callie (Cold Day in Hell). Tessa’s being stalked by a sicko child slavery ring leader from her past. And the testosterone choking SSI bunch are gonna make sure justice is served. Never discount these heroines either…all beautiful but these alpha chicks are absolutely lethal in a fight. Handy, huh? :D

Suspend belief, sit back and let the alpha-ness that is the SSI gang flow and just enjoy this quick hot read for kicks and grins.

Loved this short story, and have now read it a couple of times.

The story itself takes place at Sanctuary and later in Chicago after Callie and Risto from Cold Day in Hell are married and features Big Earl, who is a friend of Risto's and Tessa a friend of Callies, who has travelled to Sanctuary for the wedding and is certainly worth reading if you're a fan of the series.

I am the mother of three grown daughters, and I raised them to be strong, take charge, take no bunk, independent women. I'm a strong feminist, although I don't believe we are the same as men we are their equal in all things.
So you can imagine my dilemma when I found myself completely adoring Monette Michaels books, her Alpha H's are over the top protective, so much that the h's are practically suffocated in it, things like spanking for bad behavior are threatened, words like permit, allow, tame and -my absolute least favorite- submit are used.
Every feminist cell in me screeches in rage as I'm reading, but....
The H's may be over the top but they have respect, they may threaten loads of kink to coax their lady loves to follow their safety precautions, but it's not shown, and never spoken of in a way that makes it a punishing humiliation for the h.
And most important of all there is Keely. She literally makes the entire series work. She's the true Alpha in this series, and that makes all the blustering and chest pounding loose all its impact, and make my inner feminist smirk just a little.

Security Specialists International is a private security agency which takes on government contracts and private jobs no one else wants. The series revolves around the security agency contracts and the personnel employed. Although each book is standalone to a certain extent (as in there is a heroine, hero and a happily ever after to each one) there is an overarching plot through the series focusing on a DOD traitor who has been compromising intel and profiting off of information leaks.

That's one of the main things I really love about this series. Even though there's romance and sex and a ton of humour- there's a lot of plot and while each book can be read standalone - reading them in order lets the plot build into something special. Actually it's kind of like Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series insofar as the plot running through each book. I like the whole jigsaw puzzle being put together as each book is released.

This novella is available for free through Prolific Works. I loved Earl and Tessa's story. It's not as action packed as the others in the series and the romance happens really fast but Earl is such a kind man and Tessa is so strong and resilient. She's suffered so much in her life but she is a survivor - she won't let any of it keep her down. She does have a few insecure moments but she overcomes them. The suspense and mystery are good although fairly obvious. You can see the plot twist a mile away. But it is written very well and totally worth it. 3.5 stars.

Short, but none the less sexy and full of SSI action.

Earl Blackhawk is at the SSI compound after helping Risto on a mission and to be Risto’s best man when he married Callie. Callie's best friend and fellow model Tessa Andrews was the bridesmaid and it seems Callie has been trying to do a bit of matchmaking between the two.

But Earl notices that something isnt right with Tessa and is keeping a close eye on her. Seem Tessa's past has come back to haunt her. For 5 years she was held captive by sexual slavers before she managed to escape. Now she is getting video's of those times when she was help captive and text messages. Once Earl finds this out he and the SSI team go to work to find the sick pervert who branded her all those years ago to bring him down once and for all.

The romance was fast and hot as per the norm for a SSI book and the action was satisfying too. Never disappointed.

This was OK. I was intrigued by the premise and it probably would've been served better being a full-length read rather than a novella.
