Jared Reed's life isn't what he'd hoped for. He's tired of going to school for a degree he doesn't want, tired of fighting with a girlfriend too young to understand him, and to top it all off a drunken one night stand reminds him that he's not as straight as he'd like to think he is.

When his friend Jimmy offers to start a new band, it seems like a fresh start. Something to look forward to in a sea of monotony. That is until Jimmy introduces him to their new bandmate, Conor Morgan.

The one night stand Jared had hoped to never see again.

First of all, this book contains underage sex and drinking. Conor is 16 and Jared 22. You've been warned!

Up to 17% I was so tired of Jared's bullshit I wrote down on my notes that when a character is such an asshole there are two things you can expect: either he stays that way for the entirety of the book or he redeems himself. As I like a challenge (and the author's writing style) I kept on reading. When I got up to 50% I'd almost decided to give it up until I understood why his behaviour was so erratic and then thought better of it. It turned out the story starts to develop from the second half and, fuck it, the angst took me by surprise; I didn't expect it to be so depressing. However, it was satisfying seeing Jared morphing into a better person, how the book starts with him hating himself and the people around him, how he slowly changes his perspective on life...

In short, I enjoy fucked up characters and their messy relationships and the book has them in spades so it was good overall.
