This is my second read of "Take Charge, Give All" as part of my yearly life re-calibration (that's what I'd like to call my yearly goal-setting).
The book urges the reader to deliberately direct a person's focus, identity, emotions, values, time, talent and treasure, each a section of the book.
The first time I read this was way back 2014 when I turned 21, and when I had my first solo getaway. That time I was so blown-away and felt so woke, as corny as it sounds. The major learning that I had was that if you want to change a person, change that person's mindset and beliefs, which the book did for me.
This time around, I basically just readjusted my goals from my previous notes. Since I am older, I trimmed those objectives into fewer, more achievable ones. Life is too short to be complicated. It's not easy, but we sure can simplify it.
I didn't quite trust this book for its title half way through it because it was filled with stories "more of legend than fact" as Bo quoted himself citing a twitter post and hearsay as examples. But the last portion of this book has had so much spiritual impact to me, I have to share this one to my cell members, or to my SUYNL group :) It incites me to 'take the big step in my life.
Haven’t read a lot of spiritual/religious books but this one was lent to me by my Lola :)
The lessons in this book that are most valuable for me are: - Perceived identity is powerful, you become the labels you give yourself - When making big decisions, be led by your values which serve as your internal compass in life - Talents aren't rewarded by discovering and developing them, they need to be delivered too
A short, simple, and practical read for a Christian Filipino audience.
