A serious and comprehensive introduction into the field. Designed for students with an academic interest in phonetics, it is thorough and profound enough to exclude those without.

With its detailed discussions of many of the core concepts in the field, it's definitely a book to return for citations and references to.

Still, it's a tougher read that it could have been, and some topics were not included (with little to nothing on acoustic and auditory phonetics, for example). 4 stars.
